THE PACESETTER: SEIU United Long Term Care Workers Local 6434 is the largest labor union in Los Angeles County. The union represents 128,000 members who work as home care and nursing home workers. It has a total membership of 170,000 workers statewide. The union began organizing home care workers in the county in 1987. Its workers provide a range of services, from part-time to 24-hour supervisory care. Its diverse membership speaks nine different languages and the union sends out communications to its members in five of those languages. Approximately 80 percent are women. ENTERTAINMENT: The Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists merged last year.
