Guide to using Prudentials Fund analysis tools

We have linked in with a leading provider of fund data services, Funds Library to supply you with a broad range of informative statistics and fund analysis tools. We aim to make this service as userfriendly as possible and have designed this guide to make sure that you get the most from it. If there is any terminology included in this document or the tools it relates to which you dont understand, please refer to the glossary on www.pru.co.uk/guidestools/glossary or contact your adviser.

Filters
There are a number of ways that you can search for the funds you are interested in.

2. Search function a. If know the SEDOL code of a fund, enter it in to the search box. If you want to bring up more than one fund, you can input the 7 digit SEDOL code for each fund with a space in between each code. b. Type a key word from the fund name in to the search box.

3. Product or Fund Series You can then choose your fund or fund range by filtering on the Series of fund you are interested in or by the Plan/Product name.

Prudential group funds in to Series. If you need help to identify which products are available to a particular Prudential fund series, please click on the i icon next to the filter drop down to view an explanation.

Product
This filter lists the plans or products that are owned by Prudential and include plans originally taken out with Scottish Amicable, M&G and Vanbrugh Life. Your policy documents will detail the plan or product name.

5. Company taken out with
Over the years Prudential has acquired Vanbrugh Life, Scottish Amicable and M&G life and pensions. All of the plans and products originally sold by these companies are now branded as Prudential. If you need help to find your specific plan, you can narrow your search by selecting the company that you originally dealt with.

6. Type of Plan
Use this option to select the type of plan that you are interested in. If you need some help to define the type of plan, please click on the i icon next to the filter drop down to view an explanation. 7. Fund Manager
This gives you the option to search for funds, which are managed by a specific fund manager.

8. ABI or IMA sectors


The Association of British Insurers (ABI) use Sectors as a system for the classification of life and pension funds. This ensures that life and pensions funds operating similar investment strategies are grouped together so that you can compare them on a like-for-like basis.

When you have made your selection, a list of applicable funds will show in a table format. You will see columns of information which are explained on the following pages.

The Investment Management Association (IMA) is the equivalent for Unit Trusts and OEICs.

9. Prudential Group
Prudential groups some funds in to specific categories for Marketing purposes. Please click on the i icon next to the filter drop down to view our definitions of the categories shown.

Fund Prices
When you have made your selection of funds, a table showing fund prices and links to other information will be shown.

1. Tick or Selection Box a) Shortlist allows you to select specific funds and view information as a Shortlist of this table. Simply select the funds you are interested in. These funds will then appear above the main table. b) Compare You can also select up to 6 funds and then choose the Add to Comparison Tool button. This will take you to a new window which shows the main features of the funds you have selected side by side.

2. SEDOL code This is an industry recognised code which is assigned to each fund. It is issued by the London Stock Exchange (or Irish Stock Exchange in the case of Prudential International Funds).

3. Price date This is the date when Prudential set the funds price. 4. Bid price The price at which units or shares are sold by investors.

When you have made your selection of funds, a table showing fund prices and links to other information will be shown. 5. Offer Price The price at which an investor buys an asset. Some of our funds have a single price. If this is applicable to a fund, the single price will show in the offer column. 6. Interactive factsheet link This link takes you to information on the selected fund, which you can tab through to obtain more detailed fund data. (see full details on P 9) 7. PDF factsheet link You can access a summary of the fund in PDF format via this link. 8. Performance chart link

This link takes you to a tool which allows you to chart your fund against others, benchmarks or indices. (see full details on P 10) Please note that all of this information is updated as soon as it is received by our partner Funds Library, so it will always be the most current data available.

Performance Tab
If you want to look at how your fund has performed over different time periods, you can view that information here. Fund performance is shown to the nearest month end and is calculated on the difference of the daily fund price between dates. The paragraphs at the bottom of the page give you more information on how these figures are calculated. Please remember though, that past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance.

Performance Chart
1. This shows the performance of your fund over 5 years compared to a relevant investment sector average. > if your fund has not been running for 5 years, performance will be shown to the nearest full year. > performance will only be shown when the fund is a year old.

2. You have the option to change the time period by either (2a) using the slider bars to select your own time period or (2b) you can choose from the drop down menu.
3. This is the key to refer to when looking at the performance chart.

4. If you would like to see the performance of other funds or instruments, you can select from the universe of funds held in the Financial Express database.

5. You can then narrow this selection down by choosing a particular investment manager or investment sector. 6. Your selection will result in a list in this drop down box, which you can then choose to add to the graph.

7. To get the historical daily fund price choose a fund from the drop down box at point 3 then click on Get price. You will then need to select the date you want the price at from the pop up box.

8. This table shows performance to the month end over each of the last 5 years of the fund, along with its investment sector. It also includes > the funds ranking within the sector. e.g. 11/103 means that out of 103 funds in the same investment sector, this fund comes 11th in terms of performance over the time period shown. > Quartile ranking This is a statistical term which describes the division of fund performance in to 4 quartiles within a fund sector.

e.g if a fund is 1st quartile it is in the top 25% of funds in the sector for performance.

9. This table shows annualised performance to the month end over different time periods of the fund and its investment sector. 10. Any additional fund choices you make will appear underneath the default fund performance tables.
