DRAFT SIMPLIFIED VIBRATION ASSESSMENT TOOL

EVALUATION OF VIBRATION * Observed during Ops Rounds * Feared during Inspection scoping * Found during Scheduled event * ................. PLEASE NOTE This procedure is not suitable for Plant Changes, Projects and design aspects of piping associated to major rotating equipment. Please use procedures recommended by Rotating Equipment specialists. Is System Run to Failure: Systems with very low consequence of failure have been allowed to Run to Failure: consult Engineer or Inspector Could System Vibrate: Is there evidence of vibration or is system coupled to pulsating system (Process or Rotating Equipment) Does system have Vibration History: Is Visable Vibration in system or part thereof or has it been in the past, or evidence in Engineering/inspection records Is further Study Justified: System has no vibration, but may well have in future or in different mode (PCR's, ..........) Need for Support Change is obvious: * Very servere vibration observed * Minor vibration on poor design (heavy valve construction on long line).. Design Check Required: 1) Make sure correct design is used 2) Bracing, in particular of a main line, can move fatigue problem to other point in the system: Have DO Check the system Implement Support Changes: This could be simple bracing of SBC's or spring hangers, absorbers, major supports,..... Execute Vibration Measurement: Term contractor on site can facilitate this service against this procedure Consequence of Failure: Refer to current Inspection RBI for this system. Make sure Consequence is relevant for fatigue failure (crack or rupture) Susceptibility to Vibration: High: If Vibration > Acceptance curve Extreme: if High and one of following: Screwed Connection or deadleg < Schedule 40 < 40 n.s. non vertical down SBC acceptance curve not valid Medium: If Vibration > Acceptance curve, but less than 10% of the time or If Vibration > 80% of Acceptance curve and one of Extreme conditions Low & Negligeable: if not H, E or M Vibration Criticality: Use RBI RRM Criticality Matrix to establish Criticality & identify appropriate action in flowsheme Monitor Vibration: Log M criticality and Schedule event in SAP and re-measure vibration at an appropriate interval (typically 1 year) ALWAYS capture current process conditions and check with Operations for likely (regular) changes to flows,densities,..
