Mahayana Supplemental Reading List This is a list of books for those who wish to investigate any of the topics

more deeply. The list is alphabetical by author, and following each listing in small caps is the topic or topics that are discussed in the book. No Time to Lose: a timely guide to The Way of the Bodhisattva, Pema Chdrn, Shambhala, 2005. (BODHISATTVA PRACTICE INCLUDING THE PARAMITAS) Start Where You Are, Pema Chdrn, Shambhala, 1994. (LOJONG PRACTICE) Tonglen, the Path of Transformation, Pema Chdrn, Vajradhatu Publications, 2001 (TONGLEN) The Sun of Wisdom, Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso, Shambhala Publications, 2003. (MADHYAMAKA) Madhyamaka is an important training for realizing emptiness which is discussed in Progressive Stages and in chapter 15 of Indestructible Truth. This book might be the best way into a topic which most students find difficult. Progressive Stages of Meditation on Emptiness, Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso, Snow Lion Publications, 2001. (EMPTINESS) Contemplating Reality, Andy Karr, Shambhala, 2007.(EMPTINESS) This book is useful as an extended commentary for Khenpos book (preceding reference). Buddha Nature, The Mahayana Uttaratantra Shastra with Commentary, Maitreya, Jamgn Kongtrul Lodr Thay, and Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso, Snow Lion Publications, 2000. (BUDDHA NATURE) The Uttaratantra Shastra is the most important sourcebook on Buddha Nature. The commentary is by the great 19th century Rime teacher Lodr Thay with further comments by Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso. It is difficult to understand. For an introduction to the subject see Thrangu Rinpoches book listed below. The Way of the Bodhisattva, Shantideva, Padmakara Translation Group, Shambhala Publications, 1997. (ENTIRE BODHISATTVA PATH) This is a basic source text. The Practice of Lojong, Traleg Kyabgon, Shambhala , 2007. (LOJONG SLOGANS) Buddha Nature, Thrangu Rinpoche, Rangjung Yeshe Publications, 1993. (BUDDHA NATURE) An short and excellent introduction to Maitreyas Uttaratantra Shastra.

Training the Mind and Cultivating Loving-Kindness, Chogyam Trungpa, Shambhala Publications, 2005. (LOJONG SLOGANS) This is an excellent commentary on the Lojong Slogans and is the basis for Pemas teachings on the subject.
