Being thankful to God, thinking rationally, being cooperative, having critical and analytical thinking, being confident

Teaching -Learning Resources : Laptop, LCD projector, pictures, worksheets

Phases / Time Orientation (5 minutes)

Contents Friction is higher in rough surfaces and less in smoother surfaces.

Teaching - learning Activities Teacher shows a video song about friction http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkXAJHitPAY Teacher asks the students: What is friction? Why the man in the video could not push the box? In this case, is the friction helpful to him? Why the tyres have patterns? Is it beneficial to the driver? Teacher introduces the topic to the student.

Remarks Teaching aids Laptop, LCD projector Science process skills Observing Thinking skills Comparing and contrasting Scientific attitudes / Noble value Being thankful to God Teaching aids Slides Science process skills Observing Infering Thinking skills Comparing & contrasting Relating Scientific attitudes / Noble value. Thinking rationally.

Elicitation of Ideas (15 minutes)

Friction has both advantage and disadvantage.

Activity 1 Teacher shows slides where a man pulling a baggage without aid of any roller and another man pulling his son using a roller. Student compare both situation and infer that friction causes disadvantage. Teacher asks the student what would happen if the shoes do not have patterns? What would happen to the vehicles if the tyres do not have patterns? Student thinks and infers advantages of friction.

Having critical and Restructuring of Ideas (15 minutes) Activity 2 Teacher shows some pictures of advantages of friction and disadvantages. Student explains the type of friction showed in the pictures in the slides. Student lists down and summarize advantages and disadvantages of friction in mind map. analytical thinking Teaching aids slides Science process skills Observing Communicating Thinking skill Comparing and contrasting Scientific attitudes / Noble value Having critical and analytical thinking Thinking rationally Being confident Application (20 minutes) Advantages and disadvantages of friction 1. Advantage: causes things stay stationary 2. Disadvantage: causes things to wear out 3. Disadvantage: need more effort to move an object 4. Advantage: We can walk without slipping or fall. Activity 3 Student conducts 4 activities: Teaching aids ball, eraser, slipping mate,

Advantages of friction we can walk and run moving and stopping a car an object stay stationary lighting a match we can climb we can write

Disadvantages of friction - Need more effort - causes things to wear out - causes machines to slow down - causes heat in machine

1. Student put a ball on centre of table and observe new shoes with pattern, why its never move. heavy object, ruler, match 2. student use an eraser and explain why its wear Science process skills out Communicating 3. student push a heavy object on floor and explain why it is difficult to be pushed. infering 4. observe pattern on slipping mate and shoes and

5. Disadvantage: waste of energy (heat) 6. Advantage: we get fire.

compare with those wore out. 5. student rub a ruler on the table and feel the heat produced by the ruler. 6. lighting a match Student infers and states advantages and disadvantages of friction in manila card.

Reflection (5 minutes)

Conclusion about friction

With aid of pictures and mind map student summarize advantages and disadvantages of friction Worksheet
