Dear Students, Here are some ideas for different things to do in your free time this Saturday in Dallas. I have listed the websites, so you can look at the different options and plan ahead if you want. Bush Presidential Center 2943 SMU Blvd., Dallas SMU is home to the George W. Bush Presidential Center, which consists of the presidential archives, containing documents and artifacts of the Bush Administration; a museum with permanent and traveling exhibits; and an independent public policy institute. Enhancing the downtown Dallas skyline are buildings by Pritzker Prize winners I.M. Pei, Renzo Piano, Norman Foster, Rem Koolhaas and AIA "Gold Medal" recipient Edward Larrabee Barnes. Thornton Freeway, Dallas The "Zoo and Improved" Dallas Zoo features many exotic and endangered species amidst tree-lined paths and beds of flowers. The Zoo has undergone substantial changes in the past few years, adding new exhibits such as the Kimberly-Clark Chimpanzee Forest, the ExxonMobil Endangered Tiger Habitat, the Wilds of Africa, the Monorail Safari, Giants of the Savannah and more. The ArtWalk is a 3.3 mile route highlighting thirty pieces of art and architecture in the Arts District and downtown Dallas. Nearest DART Rail stations: Pearl Station and St. Paul Station JFK Memorial and Dealey Plaza 500 Main St., Dallas Built in the late 1930s, Dealey Plaza, with its Art Moderne style, was once considered the ceremonial gateway to Dallas. Dallas World Aquarium 1801 N. Griffin St., Dallas Exotic plants and creatures from around the world inhabit the Dallas World Aquarium. You can explore a South American rainforest, take a walk through a water tunnel surrounded by reef life from the Continental Shelf and observe monkeys, stingrays,

publisher and civic leader George Dealey. This small park was once Dallas' original riverfront settlement. All of that was eclipsed by the assassination of President John F. Kennedy as his motorcade passed the park's grassy knoll toward the triple underpass. A National Historic Landmark, the plaza features reflecting pools and a bronze memorial plaque that give one pause. The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza is two blocks away. Houston St. @ All Star Way (near American Airlines Center), Dallas The Katy Trail, a 3.5-mile pedestrian and bicycle path, traces the greenbelt along which the former Missouri-Kansas-Texas (MKT or "Katy") Railroad traveled through Dallas. The trail currently features a 12-foot-wide concrete path for cyclists, skaters, runners and walkers. Upon completion, the trail will extend almost 4 miles, linking DART's Mockingbird Station near SMU to the American Airlines Center near downtown Dallas. Klyde Warren Park 2102 Woodall Rodgers Frwy. between Pearl & St. Paul Streets, Dallas Opening on October 27, 2012 and located just north of the Dallas Arts District, Klyde Warren Park serves as a central gathering space for Dallas and its visitors. The 5.2-acre deck park is an urban green space built over the recessed Woodall Rodgers Freeway between Pearl and St. Paul streets in downtown Dallas. Klyde Warren Park is a highly active space, providing daily free programming for the public ranging from yoga to book signings to outdoor concerts and films. a full city block bordered by Main, St. Paul, Commerce and Harwood streets, Main Street Garden Park is surrounded by historical architecturally significant buildings such as Mercantile Place, the Universities Center at Dallas and Old City Hall (the future University of North Texas School of Law.) Amenities of the park include the Lily Pad park caf, water fountains, an urban dog run, a tot lot, garden shelters featuring a digital art display, a great lawn and a performance stage. Old Red Courthouse (Museum of Dallas County History and Culture) 100 S. Houston St., Dallas Construction on the Old Red Courthouse originally began in March of 1890. The sixth building (and the fifth county courthouse) to occupy the site, Old Red was designed in the Richardson Romanesque style by M.A. Orlopp. It was originally crowned with a clock tower, the clockwork rivaling that of London's Big Ben in quality, but the tower was removed in 1919 when prevailing winds threatened its stability. Today, Old Red is being revived, restored and reinfused with new purpose as the Museum of Dallas County History and Culture.
