Why a Food Security

Ordinance?
What is the urgency for the government for issue of an ordinance on
Food Security Bill which was pending
for a long time and when the
Parliaments monsoon session is barely
a month away.
It shows the
governments despiration and apathy to
woo the voters before the ensuing general elections to single out the scams
tainted. The country is already facing S.GANAPATHY
disturbing huge deficits and inflation- Cell : 98401 50211
ary situations unable to curtail the increasing trend of price levels.
The government is the biggest buyer of cereals. It may have the
opposite effect like increased procurements that could severely
dent its unable ailing finances, reduced often market supplies of
grains and refuel food inflation.
Public distribution system reforms and revitalisation of our
agricultural sector are the pre-requisites, a must for the good delivery systems to make it workable. The Food Corporation of India is monopolistic in character that destorts the vital market-driven
discovery. The public distribution system is very inefficient and
tardy, full of corruptions and leakages. This will greatly hamper in
giving little attention in enhancing and re-orienting agricultural investments, making their move sensitive to nutrition and productivity. The government ought to have focussed on improving the
existing welfare delivery mechanisms such as mid-day meals, sanitation, integrated child development services and MGNREGA.
The left parties and BJP have strongly disagreed with the governments intention and determination to take the ordinance route
to supplement the said bill. The ordinance does not provide for an
universal public distribution system and other defects. The Bill
also severely lacks a grievance redressal mechanism providing for
a back door entry of cash transfer. Several parties like AIADMK,
TMC, BJP., CPI and CPI (M) had already moved many amendments in the Lok sabha which have to be heard.
To ensure for a collective responsibility in its implementation, requires all-out serious debate and discussions in Parliament
over its various features taking along all state government and
political parties for a pragmatic solution, since the act is an important piece of legislation. There should be an universal coverage and
no cut in the entitlements from 7 kgms to 5kgms per person per
month. Hence it is all the more necessary for passing a comprehensive law for which serious debate in Parliament should be taken
to arrive at a consensus for the success of the said populist
programme.

Pedestrians face a herculian

treacherous ordeal in Arcot Road!
The Arcot Road at Valasaravakkam area becomes flooded
and water-logged even after a brief spell of rains , forcing the
pedestricans, feeling a nightmare. It poses a lot of difficulties to
the pedestrians to walk on the road, risking their life since there
are a lot of schools and business establishments are situated. It
cannot be imagined the havoc it may cause if it is a heavy
downpour during the ensuing rainy seasons.
The traffic is always jam packed, leaving little space / no
space for pedestrians walk safely on the road. The storm water
drains are a must and the work should be taken up to avoid
water logging.
There is also no foot-path in the entire stretch of Arcot Road.
The work should be taken up on a warfooting since lot of accidents
occur daily. The matter is a long-felt demand by the public and
the welfare associations. The Corporation of Chennai should
take care of this important works as a great civic measure for
the welfare of the people for which the government is committed.

Walk! Walk - Walk and Walk!!

FOR YOUTHFUL VITALITY

ant to feel good about your

self? Want to loose weight?
Feel fit, gain strength, build
up endurance? Then walk a little, jog a
little, run a little, jump a little or play a
little.
Walking and Jogging are natural
ways to keep fit. Walking makes the
nerves and bones strong, increases
stamina, improves flexibility and skin
elasticity. Walking relieves joint pain,
eliminates waste along with sweating, boosts oxygen intake and increases stamina.
Walking mainly eliminates sagging muscles and builds up muscle
tone. Brisk walking induces the secretion of growth hormones like
insulin, glycogen and sex hormones. Regular walking controls addiction to alcohol and drugs. It helps to curb hypertension and other
stress related illness. Will calm down the nerve cells in the brain and
relaxes the senses.
Medical experts proved that lack of movements cause blood clot
in the unmoving lower limbs.
Fast food, junk food, rapid life style and alcohol consumption
leads to obesity, pot bellies, thunder thighs and large hips.
If obesity is not checked - heart diseases, strokes, diabetes, arthritis and cancer symptoms are prone to increase.
Make it a daily challenge to find ways to move your body. Climb
stairs, walk with your dog, chase your kids, brothers and sisters, toss
a ball with your friends or play a game.
In the words of an eminent person, the days I do not go for a
walk are incomplete.
30 minutes of solid walking with 3300 steps (110 steps per minute)
will stimulate the production of the wonderful hormones within the
body, will enhance the immune system, relieves pain, reduces stress
and magically postpone the ageing process.
So Walk! Walk !! Walk and Walk !!! for Youthful Vitality.
