CATS points and Assessment Group (click on the link OR see key in edit module screen for the meaning of the Assessment Group)
The core, or compulsory, modules for your course will be listed at the top of this screen along with their associated CATS points and assessment group (AG). You have no choice over whether to take these modules or not, they are a mandatory part of your degree course. Assessment Groups fall into four broad categories and a key will be provided to assist you on screen. In most cases postgraduate modules will have an Assessment Group of 'A' meaning the department responsible will inform you of the assessment pattern.
You will need to use this screen to add the option module(s) that you wish to take this year. Each option module must be added individually, this is largely due to the fact that many modules require selection of a particular CATS weighting or Assessment method as shown below.

To add a new module, select Add option on the screen shown in Step Four. This will display the screen shown above. Simply select the module you wish to add and choose Add selected option this will take you to the edit option screen shown below.
This module has no choice for the Assessment Group. If there was a choice of Assessment Group you would need to select one of the options available Key for the Assessment Groups Current group is highlighted in pink
Where the module you have selected has variable CATS points, you need to select from the option list the CATS points you wish to register this module for. Where there is a choice, please refer to departmental information to ensure you register for the correct number of CATS.

Finally, you will need to select the method of assessment for this module. Please refer to the key found at the bottom of the page. Assessment Groups fall into four broad categories and a key will be provided to assist you on screen. In most cases postgraduate modules will have an Assessment Group of 'A' meaning the department responsible for the module will inform you of the assessment pattern. Some modules may have a method which is only available to particular students so make sure you are not choosing an assessment group you are not permitted to take (the department should notify you about any such restrictions). You should repeat steps five and six until all the modules you wish to add or edit are displayed on the summary screen. If you wish to add an unlisted option please see Step Seven below. You should refer to information your department has given you and the departmental website ( which is available via a link on the details summary screen which you saw when you initially logged in to the system see Step Two) with regard to any limitations on the selections you may make. Where illegal module choices have been made you may find these amended by your department at a future date without notice. You will be able to login at any time after the deadline for making changes to your module selection but after this deadline you will have read-only access to review your module registrations. All departments reserve the right to suspend a module at any time after registration is complete if, for example, staff fall ill or leave the University. Where this occurs departments will endeavour to inform all students affected and will attempt to provide you with an alternative choice. Modules not currently shown on the system may be added at a later date and you will have the option to register for these as they become available; your department will give you details. Important Information regarding CATS Points Please ensure that you select the correct number of modules and/or CATS points. Normally your minimum CATS points should be 180 CATS (for Full-Time, Masters study) or 120 CATS (for full-time postgraduate Diplomas) and departments may have restrictions on exceeding this limit also. The usual rules for making your selections are: ? ? ? ? To register an unlisted option module select Add module in the usual way and scroll to the bottom of the list and select the Search for unusual options button (see note A of Step 7 above). You can then either enter the module code if you know it (note B of Step 7), or search for the module by department and year of study (see note C of Step 7). From here you add the unlisted module in the normal way, as described above under Step Five.
Notes for Part-Time students Part-time students may take some of their core modules in their second year of study and to facilitate this, the Online Module Registration system does not pre-populate core module lists in advance. You should therefore follow the procedure outlined above for adding unlisted or unusual options to add all your modules. Please only add those modules you are taking during the 2 006/07 academic year at this stage.
Once you have checked your module choices are correct, click Confirm
Once you have added and/or edited all the modules you wish to take, please take a few moments to check your registrations against the regulations for your course available on the University website and from material provided to you by your department. You should also look at the total number of CATS points for which you have selected modules normally this should not be less than 180 CATS (120 CATS for diploma

students) and often departments will have a ceiling on maximum CATS points also. You must follow your departments instructions concerning CATS points. When you are satisfied that you have made the correct module choices, and that these are in agreement with the regulations for your course, you may submit your form. Please note that after the selection deadline has passed you will have read access only to the system and will not be able to request any further changes online. Please approach your department administrator directly for changes after this date. IMPORTANT: To submit your module registrations click the Confirm button, as shown above. A message will be displayed to you confirming that your form has been submitted successfully and an email will be sent to your Warwick email address. You should now ensure that you sign out using the button at the top right. This is especially important if you are using a computer that may be used by somebody else.
These instructions are available in large print or electronically. If you prefer a large print or electronic version please email modules@warwick.ac.uk stating where you would like it sent or giving an email address.
