, 20052 March 2, 2009 Dear Ms. Richard, I would like attend George Washington University Law School, but due to financial constraints, my attendance will be dependent upon my financial aid package. My wife and I got married this past July, and our parents agreed to lend a financial hand until I graduate from Yeshiva University. After that, we are on our own, and my BS in accounting was supposed to support us while studying for my CPA exams. However, I have always aspired to go to law school. I have had a few teachers throughout my schooling who were either practicing or former lawyers, and while building personal relationships with them, they also inspired me, and I feel that this will be the most fulfilling profession for me to pursue. My parents, on the other hand, are not keen at all about this plan. They paid my way through private elementary and high schools, two years of studying abroad, and university for an undergraduate degree, and they are of the opinion that one degree, quite frankly, is enough. The economic standing of the country at this time is not helping their attitude. They have told me numerous times over the past year, since I started studying for the LSATs, that it would be difficult for them to financially support this venture, and if I would like to attend law school, I am on my own. I have infuriated them the month and a half, since I received my admit package from you, in asking for their tax returns, and they have adamantly refused to acquiesce. Thank G-d, I have received a few acceptances with very tempting offers, but I view them as secondary. If I am going to follow my dream, I believe that I should go to the best school I can, and the best-fitting one. That school, I believe, is GW Law. I am unsure of the type of law I want to practice, and the large array of courses given by the high caliber of professors which you have will help me make the most of my law school career, and in turn, of my profession. The diverse course catalog, coupled with the fact that the school is in our nations capitol, makes this an easy decision for me. I have not yet prepared my tax return, but enclosed you will find a copy of my W-2 form from my summer internship, which constitutes the vast majority of our income for the year, as is evident from my FAFSA application. Aside from that, we earned less than two thousand dollars of interest on our savings and wedding gifts. Our actual savings accounts and investments will be used to fund housing and food for my wife and me for the next three years while I am in law school. I understand that I am asking for a rather large exception to the rule, but my parents will not cooperate in my financial planning for my attendance at law school. I am unable to get their financial information for FAFSA or their tax return, and thus, according to the written rule, I am ineligible for a need-based grant. Please reconsider in the current situation as I would very much like to attend GW Law. Thank you very much, and I look forward to hearing from you, Stuart Davidman
