Sketches
Car Related

Often I find myself drawing sketches of cars - whether I have a new idea, want to try a new technic or am just bored. I prefer using pencils in front of markers, paint and technical pens because mistakes are easily corrected.

After drawing this sketch I decided to make a scale tubular chassis from toothpicks and skewer sticks

All the plans were hand drawn on paper and then I used epoxy adhesive to glue the sticks together

Finally, to finish the project I painted the model gray using primer I had left from another project.

Non-Car Related

I wanted to try if I could draw a lion, using only straight lines. As I liked the result I drew two more - my favorite animal the Owl and an Eagle for a friend of mine.

Landscapes

One of my greatest interest is the photography, particularly landscape and night photography. I find it really interesting, because a photo shot in the right moment can tell a story a lot better than words.

Night Photography

I adore the night photography, because there are a lot of ways to approach it. You can show the beauty of the night sky, use the city lights or even create the illusion that the picture is taken during the day and leave only small details like the stars.

Project

For the portfolio I decided to create a model of a car with entirely my design.

I began by drawing a side and top view, because its easy to make the templates using them.

I started the building part with the body of the car made from 5 plies of 20mm foam. After drawing the lines using a template I cut roughly the previously glued foam with a blade and after that sanded it to the final shape.

After smoothening all the rough edges I continued with the front end. Unlike the body, I decided to make it by 3mm and 20mm foam using ribs on which the outer panels would hold.

I did the left panels first and after that, using the same templates I did the right ones. Using 20mm foam sanded in a shape of an airfoil I made the front wing connecting the left and right fenders. I often used LEDs to hold the panels in place until the glue set, and then filled the holes left with glue.

At first the rear left section of the car was made the same way as the front using 3mm foam for ribs. But after gluing the outer panels to them they turned out too flimsy. Thats why I removed them and replaced them with 2 20mm foam ribs.

When gluing larger panels I used masking tape to hold them in place, because it has a bigger contact patch and it can be used to hold bent panels in the desired shape until the glue sets. At this stage I decided to change the design of the rear side panels and keep the wheels hidden.

Not having taken a lesson, I made the same mistake with the rear of the car using 3mm ribs made the structure flimsy and fragile. After replacing them with 20mm ones I glued the last 3mm panels , which meant that I could start preparing it for paint.

Because of the texture that the foam has, which would have shown through the paint, I decided to cover the model in acrylic putty for wood, which wouldnt react with the foam, smoothen the surface and fill the gaps and holes in the model. First I applied the putty , waited it to dry and then sanded it and repeat this process until the surface was smooth.

Water based paint was used so it wouldnt react with the foam. Several layers were applied and waited to dry before I could start masking the windows, which were painted black. The diffuser as well as the vents were also painted black.

After a mistake I did regarding the paint that can be used on the model I ended up sanding the whole rear panel to foam, covering it with putty and painting it.

The vents and the diffuser were the last thing to be painted. Every masking was done first with a 3mm fine masking tape and after that everything that didnt need painting was covered with masking tape and paper.

After finishing painting I turned my attention to the tail lights and vents design. After sketching 4 designs I turned out to friends and relatives to help me choose. I ended up choosing the 4-th one .

After choosing a design, I proceeded to creating a sticker of it. First I drew the design on paper, then scanned it, created a vector version of it on Adobe Illustrator, opened in Photoshop and added the color and textures. After that it was printed on adhesive paper. The headlights were created the same way.

I had the wheels and tires from a radio controlled model, but I wanted to see if I could have done them on my own, so I did a 3D model on Autocad.

Some changes to the original design were made during the process of making the model. This is the end result:

A Sketch of the interior

Top left- Spoilers and Airbrake, that deploy to ensure traction on each of the front wheels. Bottom right Airbrake and brake cooling vents which deploy only when the brakes are hot .

Air management within the rear wheel arches

Initially the model was planned to be red, but because no red water based paint was available, I decided to create a panting of it using tempra paint.
