LGBT Independence Day 6/26/2013
By Tedd Good The Supreme Courts ruling that overturned DOMA has greater value as precedent and symbol than actual benefit. Like the 4/4/1776 Declaration of Good Independence it was a call to arms and not a settlement. Its scope is limited to one bad law but it creates a precedent of declaring that protections of sexual orientation exist within the 14th Amendment. This allows for a systematic litigation of legislation that sets up the LGBT Community as an object for discrimination. It makes our organizing principle that we want equal rights not special rights as point of law. The revolution is still on The revolution is still on. The Fundamentalists and Tea Party still will try to make this an organizing issue. Kentuckys own Rand Paul sarcastically oinked the ruling may make it easier to pass laws that allow for the marriage of humans to animals. Other related Christian jihads want to nullify the ruling by seeking the passage of more overtly discriminatory legislation to tie up LGBT organizations in endless campaigns and litigation. As long as The GOP embraces these fanatics who oppose immigration reform but promote voter repression , vaginal regulation and shrinking the middle class, that party will continue to self marginalize. This is why the LGBT movement must continue its strategy of standing up for all human rights. That the voting Rights Act and affirmative action have
Since the first Gay PRIDE Celebration in Cincinnati in April 1973, PRIDE Parades have been led by PRIDE Marshals. As the following list of former honorees suggests, the group is diverse, talented and truly reflects the diversity that is the Cincinnati area. Here is a brief recap of the former PRIDE Marshals over the years, in alphabetical order. The date following the name is the year the person was honored if available. Karen AronoffHoltmeier ( 2010 ): Worker for equality, locally, regionally and nationally through her efforts with the former One Human Family and her subsequent work on the HRC Greater Cincinnati Steering committee. Phebe ( Karen ) Beiser ( 2008 ): Retired Librarian, activist, writer, founder of Ohio Lesbian Archives, in leadership with Womens Way and Women Writing for (a) Change. Randy Bridges ( 2010 ): Tireless promoter and fundraiser for various Cincinnati charitable causes. He was one of the first to do HIV benefits in the early 80s. Stop in some day at the On Broadway, and you might just find Randy there. Doris Marks Callis ( 2010 ): She is currently general manager of the Gayfriendly Glendalia Boutique Hotel in Glendale, Ohio. She teaches hospitality and tourism at Antonelli College downtown, as well as, being involved in various fundraisers. A friend of pets, she is active in dog rescue groups. Top down Episcopalians
By Worley Rodehaver When we organized the local Integrity Chapter in the mid 70s we didnt ask the powers that be if we could. We were clandestine, not an authorized Episcopal group. Even though we had one of our first national meetings at the Cathedral in Chicago we didnt run about telling people there at we were Gay. Locally, our primary reason for existence was to be with other Gay Episcopalians to socialize and discuss our faith. Of course just being here was political. As editor of the Diocesan newspaper, The Interchange, following the Chicago meeting, I wrote an editorial, On Homosexuality which rocked the boat and resulted in a page of anti-Gay letters to the editor in the Enquirer. But, Integrity continued with its meetings and periodic church services. Now, when there is a person with the passion to reorganize the local chapter, a memo comes down from above that will not happen. There is still a need for GLBT Episcopalians to get together to discuss religion, socialize and from time to time participate in worship together. Go ahead organize, call the group what you want and dont ask permission.

Colorful Article Welcome back Worley. I loved your colorful article and hope you are better soon! Glad you are back in your own home and bed. Happy Pride!!! Ciao, Victor Glad youre back Hi Worley! Im glad youre back! Your article was really interesting. You might consider pressing kidnapping ( OK. adult-napping) charges on the nursing home! So glad youre out now! Marsha Saw latest edition Hi Worley! Just saw your latest edition of the paper and am glad you escaped the nursing home from Hell. Getting old can certainly be sucky. Anyway, as to my creds, I was co-founder and co-administrator of the Gay STD Clinic at the Free Clinic in Mt. Alburn from 1974-76 and founding president of AVOC in 1983-84 as well as past president of the Northside Community Council where I enabled the first LGBT law passed by Cincinnati City Council in 1980. I am retired now due to HIV issues but am still active and write a newsletter on Food and nutrition for a CSA I am a member of as well as a column on Cyber Sites for my buildings monthly newsletter. I have been impressed with the progress that Cincinnati has made in the last 10 years and was thrilled to see our first LGBT member of City Council elected at the last election there. I remember the impossible odds we had trying to get Josh Thomas on the ballot in 1982. Take care and be well. Greetings to all in Cincinnati and keep the FAITH!!! FlatironMike Names Mike Weyand

It is our goal to record the positive contributions GLBT people make to their community and the local community at large. While AIDS and Hate CRIMES are certainly not positive things, we seek to draw the positive from the negative. We hold up Paul Delph and Matthew Shepard and their families as models of how human beings should or could react to each other and how families should support loved ones whose lives are not in the box right wing religious zealots want them in. Delph, a multi-talented Cincinnatian, died of AIDS in 1996. His mother shut down her business to care for him. Shepard died in 1998, victim of a hate Crime and his mother worked for years to get passed a national Hate Crimes Bill, which is now law.

5 1/4" floppy drives let alone the paranoia of queers laughable. I guess I was a pioneer for the cause um...can I have my HRC leadership award now? Please make that award out to Michael C. Meow. I will not claim being naive about these apps as for the past few years anytime one of the youngins came into the Center they let me use their sleek smart phones and pointed out all the joys of these apps. It is rather fun, to see some of my younger friends reactions on line most who had just claimed days before they had given up men. I think more likely they meant a specific man and they had now moved on. Nothing like getting a message on one of these services under somone elses name with this note - Hi this is Mother Goose. Within a week of using these applications I am guessing it is more fuel efficient than cruising Mt. Fairy. Although, old style cruising, something we dont hear so much of, well, at least in my age band is still alive and well or so I am told. Ah um. I do have some questions why is that a man from half a world away wants you to see his private parts. I know I just have to look but still somehow it seems the further away the man is on line the sooner I must see his parts. Did I just read myself? More fascinating is for a Goose celebrating 64 years this fall, how can it be to recognize so many of these local/regional men? Old friends and newer ones are there for the finding. Poppa Bear Cares (Rusty Lockett who I have been told has made appearances on such sites) says it is unseemly that a proper Goose is on-line creeping. Perhaps, but it has simply turned out as yet another way to be social for me. I take it as great sport with no expectations. Should you be on-line, of course, my profile is Mother Goose. Ive already had a number of questions, including one from Nathan West how many eggs does the Goose have? The answer is many although they are all infertile. Another person, no picture (of course, and an email I could not recognize) offers I should have known you would be on here! Okay. Maybe these on-line services are so popular because they eliminate the need to meet anyone, allowing life to be reduced to a series of woofs and likes from across the globe. I dont ever recall someone being called a creeper though because they turned out for a church social. Kinda like what we called snooping or taking attendance in the day of blowing into a public meeting just long enough to see who was there, and quickly leave. I dunno know, maybe for me, progress would look like seeing gender queers holding hands in even old Cincinnati. Not just on PRIDE Day, but every day of the year. Meantime, hunt up Mother Goose on line, and send a note. Something tells me the apps are going to be popular for a very long time. Folks are always fond of saying of Goose, Mother you keep giving queers facts and all they want is fantasy. If you are into fantasy, Ill see you on-line, along with all the others!

Five deserving students received $1,400 scholarships for their college education at the PFLAG meeting in June. This is the twenty-first year that PFLAG has awarded scholarships. This years recipients were Tyler Bridge, Maverick Couch, Richard Dennis, Abigail Lower and Rachel Price. The scholarship winners demonstrated a wide range of accomplishments in support of the GLBT community, such as starting their schools GayStraight Alliance, speaking on various LGBT panels, and drawing national media attention. The accomplishments of these students impressed everyone in attendance and elicited enthusiastic praise. The continued work by students such as these will certainly make the world a better place. Funds for the PFLAG scholarships came from the ISQCCBE (The Court), Paul Delph Scholarship Fund, and the generosity of many other donors and members. PFLAG thanks these organizations and individuals for their contributions and looks forward to continuing success in supporting deserving students. Here is a brief introduction to the recipients: Tyler Bridge graduated from Ross High School and plans to attend Georgetown University. He plans to major in Government, Politics and Policy to

prepare for a career in public service. Tyler served as student body/class president and represented his school at Buckeye Boys State, as well as participating in numerous other school activities and organizations. He also interned at the Department of Economic Development for the City of Hamilton and spent time in Columbus with a State Senator. Maverick Couch graduated from Waynesville High School and plans to attend Wright State University in the fall. He has been involved in school activities such as theater and Spanish Club. After his first amendment rights were violated at school for wearing a shirt that said, Jesus is not a homophobe, Maverick contacted Lambda Legal for advice. The following lawsuit and media coverage surrounding Maverick raised national awareness for LGBT issues and bullying in schools.
