Rules and Regulations

1. The spelling competition will test students on their spelling skills in

written form. A prepare word list will be read aloud during the
competition and an answer sheet where the pupils are required to
write down their answers.
2. The words for the spelling competition will be taken from the Oxford
Dictionary and Year 4,5 and 6 English textbooks.
3. The spelling will be conducted in a listening and writing manner. Where
the Master Speller will pronounce the word clearly and the students will
write down the word on the answer sheet.
4. Students will be required to spell thirty (50) words at the written level.
5. The Master Speller will read aloud the word three times and then the
students will be given exactly one (1) minute to write and spell the
word.
6. The Master Speller will not repeat the words after they have been read
three times.
7. Once the one (1) minute is up, the Master Speller will proceed to the
next word without waiting for those who have not finished.
8. At the end of the session, the students will be given 5 minutes to check
their answers.
9. The students are not allowed to discuss the answer.
10.
Students are only allowed to bring their writing instrument to
write down the spelling.
11.
All words must be spelt using Standard British English. Other
types of spelling will not be accepted.
12.
Once the spelling competition is completed, the subject teacher
will correct the answer sheets according to the classes that they are
teaching.
13.
Should there be a tie, the students with the highest correctly
spelled words from the Advance level will be chosen as the winner.
