A Community Fair was held with live performances and 18 game booths just below Tuen Mun Christian Church's chapel. A couple thousand people attended. Both the church and the Residents' Association in that building operated booths. The residents' booth won first prize. The church's booth introduced the steps to salvation and Christian literature was passed out to some 400 people who patronized the booth.
December 15 and 20:
On both days, Joyce provided the wedding cakes, reception supplies and our boys as ring bearers for the weddings of two Christian couples we have known
for some time.
December 23:
Gary baptized Andrew Tsanq> a high school senior, and a nearby church used the church's baptistry, too.
December 24:
A new attendance record was set when about 75 people attended the church's Christmas program. About 10 people were standing and there was virtually no room left, which means that if the church hopes to grow, special programs that might have that large a crowd will have to be given twice. And last week, 29 people attended Kid's Club. A year ago, 29 would have been the total atten dance over the church's three regular services. It is my prayer that the church will soon reach a total attendance of 80 over the three regular serv ices, and average that number by the end of the year.
December 26:
A Church Barbecue: It had been almost a year since the church had had a good chance to share together, so several families took a boat to a campsite on one of the big islands.
December 30:
The movie "Where the Waters Run" was shown as a special movie night.

Hong Kong indicate. People here are much better off than they were ten years ago. However, widespread petty theft and robbery have only been replaced by more "upper-class" crimes like rapidly increasing immorality and ARMED robbery.
Moreover, the increase in church membership has not even kept pace with the
birthrate.
That is to say. if Christians would just lead their own children to Christ,
Such slow growth is ver^/ alarming because information on how churches grow has multiplied over the past ten years. Moreover, church membership seems to be growing much faster under the antireligious government of China than in Hong Kong's free
society.
Two years ago the church had five Caucasian and five Chinese members.

The church owns about 225% more property and its facilities are about 44% larger
now than two years ago.
The church's present self-support of about $640 per month is about 390% larger
than two years ago.
Finally, two years ago the church provided four weekly group meetings or Bible
classes. Although the English worship service has just been suspended, there are now EIGHT weekly meetings or Bible groups in the church.
COMPUTER LAND
Improvement in the church's ability to support itself was helped most by a recent
agreement between the church and a computer training school to rent our chapel from Mondays through Fridays, During the week they set up twenty computer terminals in the chapel and teach about 200 elementary children how to operate computers. Please
pray that this arrangement can continue smoothly.

IN CHINA
On February 25th, LIU YUK LAN from Ihluirch took DR. VAIL, JOYCE and me and another friend into China via the Shumchun and Lowu checkpoints. We knew it was crowded but not until we read the newspaper did we know how crowded. The SOUTH
CHINA MORNING POST reported:

That was when they shouldered their heaviest v^orkload of the past 35 years. According to a dispatch released yesterday by the Canton branch of the China News Service, there were 101,311 passengers leaving and entering China via Shumchun and Lowu checkpoints on that day.
DANNY THURSTON (fellow Hong Kong missionary) joined up with us once we arrived. We found China to be less restrictive than we expected. We had interesting conversations and visits with folks and would have been glad for more. Facilities were reasonably comfortable and cost about $100 each for four days. Our thanks to JEAN MONTGOMERY for watching our children during that time.

CHURCH PLANTING
On March 17th, I accepted the invitation to be chairman of the board of directors of
the CHRISTIAN RESTORATION CHINESE EVANGELISTIC ASSOCIATION, which has been
newly established under the driving force of DANNY THURSTON solely to establish local Christian churches. It is only one of several methods of church planting being used here. Their first new church planting project is in the city of Sheung Shui. A 1,800 sq. ft. premises was rented for $1,025 per month, and MR. YIP MOWN V/AI has accepted the invitation to be the planting evangelist. He says the premises will need about
