And now that weve opened our new brickworks, were able to supply West Australian families with exceptional quality clay bricks that have been designed to suit our climate and lifestyle. Located in South Guildford, our brickworks is a state-of-the-art facility thats capable of producing more than 110 million bricks a year. The factory is equipped with cutting-edge Australian and European technology, enabling us to use a broad selection of clays from all over our great state to create bricks with textures and finishes never seen before in West Australia. At Brikmakers, we know how stressful building a new home can be. Thats why our teams dedicated to making your experience with us as easy and carefree as possible. And you can be confident that well make every effort to deliver your bricks on time and in the right place. Heres a few things you can do to help us deliver your bricks efficiently: Inform us of any obstacles in your neighbourhood such as dead-end roads, one-way streets, height or weightrestrictions, clearways and main roads. This will help our truck drivers plan their route. Make sure your property is easily accessible and has a visible lot number or job sign. Before delivery, tell us exactly where you want us to place the bricks on the site. The more you tell us, the better we can service your requirements. So dont hesitate in calling us to discuss your delivery needs.

Duraclay Lintel reinforced fired clay
Duraclay Lintel has been specifically designed for use with Brikmakers Claybrick range. It offers many outstanding benefits: It can span opening sizes up to 2410mm with minimal deflection at specified design loads. It reduces construction and maintenance costs. It allows for improved key to plastering, giving a fantastic plaster finish to the area under a window head.

Standard construction and placement detail

Allow for a bearing of at least 230mm. Bed the lintel on a mortar joint. Ensure the clay face of the lintel faces into the room as this will allow a better plastering key. Ensure the window doesnt take the weight of the lintel. Up to 5mm clearance above the window head is recommended. Ensure the window head ties are bedded into the bed joint above the lintel.

Add some style with mortar

Now that youve found your perfect brick, its time to give some serious thought to the mortar youll use. Yes, we know youre probably thinking mortar, whats there to think about? But the truth is that mortar comes in a wide range of colours and can dramatically affect the way your home looks. After all, it represents 15% of the total visible area of your brickwork!

Mortar colours
You can now get mortar thats matched to your bricks to create immaculate blocks of colour that are common in contemporary architecture. But if youre aiming for a more classic look, you can use contrasting mortars to highlight the shape of each individual brick. You can also add your own individual stamp to your home through your choice of joints and rakings. Just look at these examples:

Tips to keep your bricks looking their best

Through careful maintenance you can keep your bricks looking like new. But before we tell you how, pick up some safety glasses, respiratory masks and gloves (yes, were telling you to pick up safety equipment, so you know these are going to be some juicy tips).

Removing excess mortar

When you put up a new wall, theres invariably going to be some excess mortar and smudges on it. But dont worry, its easily fixed. All you have to do is saturate your walls with water and use a metal scraper to wedge off all the excess deposits of mortar. If you find theres still excess mortar or smudges, you can get rid of them by following these steps: Put on your safety gear. Create a mixture of hydrochloric acid and water (one part hydrochloric acid to fifteen parts water). Apply the mixture to the wall and start scrubbing it in with a spirit brush. Once youve scrubbed the wall, neutralise the acid by applying a solution of sodium bicarbonate and water (5 grams of sodium bicarbonate to a litre of water) to the wall. Leave the solution on the wall for 30 minutes and then wash it off with water. Once the water dries, your wall should be looking spotless and spectacular.

Eliminating mould and moss

Theres no denying that our bricks and paving are very attractive. But sometimes they attract the wrong type of visitors namely, moss and mould. You can easily get rid of them by scrubbing down the affected areas with bleach or pool chlorine (use a concentration of one part bleach or chlorine to three parts water). Remember to clean the area with water once youve finished.

Treating vanadium stains

Have you ever noticed those yellow/green stains on light-coloured bricks? Theyre caused by a chemical which occurs naturally in clay called vanadium. Should vanadium stains pop up on your bricks, theres no need to worry theyll naturally disappear. However, if you want to give Mother Nature a bit of a hurry-up, you can get rid of the stains by scrubbing them down with a mixture of 500 grams caustic soda in 5 litres of water.

Ecobrick by Brikmakers
Ecobrick is a premium internal walling material that provides extraordinary thermal, acoustic and environmental benefits. The bricks are made from a mixture of sand, lime, cement, water and a small amount of aluminium paste - the equivalent of 0.1% of the total mix volume making them completely recyclable. To blend these raw materials, we utilise an autoclaving process that uses less than a fifth of the energy that goes into producing traditional bricks. Throughout the manufacturing process, no toxic materials or gases are used or created. As a result, Ecobrick bricks are chemically stable and hypoallergenic. Despite weighing less than half a conventional brick, Ecobricks have exceptional strength and insulating properties. Not only will they block out most external noise, theyll also keep your rooms at a more constant and pleasant temperature, minimising the need for costly air-conditioning and heating. Ecobrick bricks may look grey, but theyre as green as they come.

Prices Prices are current at date of print, ex works. Prices are subject to change without notice. Prices include GST. Ruling rate will be charged on delivery date. Prices indicated are for standard pack sizes. Deliveries may be loose if less than two packs are delivered. Any Claybrick products collected from Brikmakers sites other than South Guildford may be subject to an additional charge to cover cartage from the South Guildford site. Half packs or loose product may be subject to a surcharge. Ordering Colours of products may vary between batches, so it is recommended that all required product be ordered at the same time. Inspection of Product Brikmakers encourages customers to carefully inspect and observe all delivered product to ensure all quality expectations are met. Should a problem arise, it must be directed to Brikmakers prior to the product being installed. Score Marks Score marks (vertical lines or drag marks) may be visible on the product face. These marks are the result of the manufacturing process. Variances Size and colour variations may occur due to manufacturing processes. Coverage may vary according to installation methods. Product meets the tolerance levels stipulated in Australia/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 4455. Blending To minimise any noticeable colour variations, it is recommended that clay brick and paving products are blended from multiple packs as they are installed. Please contact a Brikmakers sales consultant for more information. Loose Loading Legal restrictions exist for the loading of loose product into vehicles. Please contact a Brikmakers sales consultant for more information. Trailer Weight Restrictions Please ensure your trailer is marked with load specifications. Unmarked trailers will only be permitted to carry a maximum of half a pack. If so, Brikmakers may provide a loan trailer.

Brick Face A standard face brick features a single, purpose made face. Colour variation may exist between the solid and cored version of an identically named product. Utility Bricks In addition to a noticeable variation in colour between bricks, some utility bricks are unsuitable for external use. For more information, please contact a Brikmakers sales consultant. Architectural Shapes/Custom Colours Certain products are available in customised shapes and colours. Please contact a Brikmakers sales consultant. Certified Strength Bricks Brikmakers have made a range of certified strength bricks available for specialised building projects. Please contact Brikmakers for the costs and specifications of these products. Two-Storey Projects Face bricks will be block stacked on two-storey project sites. Based on the conditions of the site, this may not always be possible. Coastal Brickwork A weathers struck sealed joint with approved damp proof coursing will be required to prevent the effects experienced of extreme exposure in coastal areas. Damp Proof Course (DPC) Damp proof course can provide maximum resistance from ground salts and moisture and must be installed in order to prevent brickwork erosion. It is imperative that the damp proofing be installed above ground level to act effectively.

Important information and useful hints for the Blokpave product range

Efflorescence A white deposit known as efflorescence may sometimes appear on any concrete or masonry product. It does not affect structural integrity and will dissipate over time. Efflorescence is not indicative of a flawed product. Efflorescence is a temporary condition where salts migrate via evaporation to the surface of the paver. This is a transitory phenomenon as the pavers acclimatise to their new environment. Efflorescence may be temporarily removed by stiff brushing. Alternatively contact Brikmakers for cleaning instructions. Physical Characteristics Blokpave Concrete Pavers are manufactured to exceed the requirements of the Australian and Industry Standards (Australian Standard AS/NZS 4455 Masonry Units and Segmental Pavers and CMAA T44 Concrete Segmental Pavers Guide to Specifying). Blokpave pavers are manufactured with chamfered top edges which minimise chipping and spalling and facilitates the removal of water from the surface of the pavers. Faces without chamfers may be prone to chipping. Most Blokpave pavers are made with space nibs on the sides of the unit which automatically provide the minimum joint width when installed. Blokpave pavers meet or exceed pedestrian slip resistance guidelines in Australia Standard AS/NZS 4586. Cutting Prior to cutting please fully wet the product. This will reduce the chance of cutting residue staining the product. It is also important to ensure all residue is washed from any cut product prior to laying. Staining Occasionally various types of stains, blemishes or efflorescence may become visible on the paver surface. These are typically caused by tannins, humus and salts from the surrounding soil/environment. To protect your paving it is recommended your pavers are laid on clean salt free sand and that they are sealed. Tyre Markings Tyre marks may appear on the pavement surface. This may occur due to the tyre compounds, vehicle weight and action of the power steering. Garden Mulches Mulches contain tannins that can leach onto paving. Avoid dumping mulch directly onto paved areas and minimise water run off from the mulch onto the pavers. High Pressure Cleaning The use of high pressure water cleaning is not recommended unless performed by a professional, as it may damage the paver surface. Sealing To protect your finished project and to allow easy cleaning it is recommended that your paving be sealed. In particular paving in coastal areas or harsh environments. The application of a sealer will protect your investment and maintain the pavements appearance. Brikmakers recommends and distributes Concrete Colour Systems sealer range. Salt Water Pools Where paving is to be used around a pool it is recommended that the pavers along the edge are protected with the appropriate sealer. Chipping and Breakage Some minor chipping and breakage may occur during the delivery and installation of the product. It is recommended that this product is used for cuts. This should not exceed 5% of the completed project. Dimensions Brikmakers manufactures its products utilising state of the art paver production equipment that moulds the pavers using high pressure and high frequency vibration. This process ensures that the product supplied is within the allowable dimensional tolerances specified in Australian Standard AS /NZS 4455. Product dimensions quoted are nominal and subject to variation due to product colour and batch. Numbers per square metre quoted are nominal and subject to variance due to installation. Ground Preparation Paving must be laid on a compactable sand bed of at least 30mm thick. The sand must be clean, well graded with no soluble salts, containing no roots or rubble. Failure to use clean sand may result in your pavers becoming stained. Product Presentation / Installation Every effort is made to provide products consistent with samples. As all our products are made with naturally occurring raw materials and differing manufacturing techniques, variations will occur. Colour, surface appearance/texture and size variation will occur naturally within and between batches. It is recommended that there is careful inspection of all pavers delivered and appropriate blending and supervision during installation to ensure satisfactory results. Colour variations may exist between different paving formats of the same colour type. Laying For best results it is important to blend products from various packs as you lay. It is recommended to maintain a 2-3mm joint between pavers for clean jointing sand to be swept between the pavers to provide effective lock up. Jointing Sand Jointing sand must be clean, sharp, and well graded with no soluble salt or clay. Brikmakers recommends white finishing sand. For further information contact Sales on 1300 360 344. Villagepave / Renopave Our Villagepave and Renopave ranges are rustic products that feature subtle variations in size, colour and surface finish. This rustic nature is intended as part of the products appeal. To obtain best overall results the product must be blended from several packs during laying. Villagepave is acceptable for use in driveways with a recommended herringbone pattern. Masonry Blocks Concrete masonry products are subject to shrinkage over time. This issue must be incorporated into the design stage. Control joints must be used at least every 6 metres of walls using concrete masonry products that are not reinforced (not in excess of 6 metres).
