Childcare/Parent-Child Centre Relief Staff Job Posting Position Type: on-call and a minimum of 3 hours a shift Wage: Range

based on experience $15 - $17 per hour Date Ad Posted: July 16, 2013 Application Deadline: July 30, 2013, 5 pm Jessies The June Callwood Centre for Young Women is a multi-service resource centre for pregnant young women, young parents and their children. Jessies work includes a broad spectrum of services addressing issues related to the social determinants of health. Jessies operates from a feminist perspective and is a pro-choice organization that supports a womans right to make choices about her sexual health and pregnancy options. We strive to demonstrate our commitment to feminism, anti-discrimination and positive social change in every aspect of our structure and functioning. Jessies staff and participants (clients) come from diverse cultures and sexual orientations. Having a rich history in working with diverse populations is fundamental to this role. The Parent-Child Centre is the heart of Jessies and offers childcare, parent relief and drop-in services for our participants. The relief staff members will provide high quality childcare for infants and toddlers in our setting and will contribute to a safe and stimulating environment that is welcoming and supportive of parents and prenatal women. We are currently looking to expand our Parent-Child Centre relief staff team during the following program hours: Monday and Tuesday 9:00 am 7:00 pm Wednesday and Thursday 9:00 am 4:00 pm Education: E.C.A. Certificate required E.C.E. Diploma an asset First aid and CPR Certification Experience: Applicants must have experience in group care of infants and toddlers. Experience Program planning for infants and toddlers Implementation of activities for infants and toddlers Experience working with young parents and/or drop-in programs is an asset The ability to speak a second language is an asset.

Responsibilities: Provide care and programming for children using our childcare and parent relief services Maintain a safe and healthy environment for infants and toddlers Implement activities which will support childrens physical, emotional, social and cognitive needs Consistently model age-appropriate interactions with children in the program Support volunteers and placement students Physical Demands: Multiple demands and constant interruption in tasks Lifting, carrying and holding children up to 35lbs. while standing and seated Sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time Kneeling and squatting on the floor during play and supervision of children Outdoor supervision of children and parent activities Exposure to cleaning products i.e. bleach solution Exposure to bacterial and viral infections Exposure to noise Please note: A Vulnerable Sector Screening Police Reference Check is required by the successful candidate prior to hiring.
