REFLECTION ON THE PLANE MIRROR

Objective: To investigate the properties of light on the plane mirror Apparatus: optical table, precision rail, diaphragm slides holder, one-slit diaphragm, combination mirror, + 100 mm lens, foot rails, power supply, connecting cables, house lights, 30 cm ruler, protractor, HVS paper Steps: 1. Arrange the necessary tools in order: light source, lens, diaphragm, and optical table. Place the lens at 10 cm in distance from the light source. If needed, turn the lights on so that the filament in an upright position. Put the HVS paper on the optical table. 2. Put a combination mirror on the paper, flat surface facing the diaphragm. 3. Connect the power supply to the electricity. Make sure that the power supply is off. 4. Choose 12 volt for the output in power supply by rotating a voltage selector switch on that power supply. 5. Connect the power supply to the light source. Try to turn the power supply on. 6. When the light is on, the paper should be clearly seen narrow beam. If not, slide the lens by changing the position of holder to the right and to the left until there is a clear narrow beam. If successful, turn off the power supply. 7. Move combination mirror and draw line AB on HVS paper. Put it on the optical table. Put back combination mirror with a flat surface coincides with the line AB. 8. Turn on the light, point the inclined ray (the light that comes out of the diaphragm) to the flat surface (considered as a flat mirror). Turn the optical table or paper in order inclined ray forms an angle. 9. Draw the ray traces on HVS paper. 10. Turn the lights off, take HVS paper from optical table. Draw a perpendicular line to the vertical line on point O, it is called as the normal line. 11. Measure the angles d and p, then write the results measurement on the table. 12. Repeat it for 3 times with the same steps as no 1-5 on different angle of incident angle. Result of Observation 1. A. incident angle (i) is the angle between and B. reflected angle (r) is the angle between and 2. Data No. 1. 2. 3. Conclusion: 1. On the plane mirror, incident ray will be reflected to be 2. On the plane mirror, the angle of ... same as the angle of Applications in Daily Life
