With a workforce of 2,220 employees, Siemens Pakistan is one of the most important employers in the country and the largest employer of engineering graduates, including women.

Siemens first office in the subcontinent opened in Lahore in 1922. Siemens has been active in Pakistan since 1947. Siemens is the countrys No. 1 supplier of high-voltage grid stations, switchgear products and systems, power and distribution transformers, and network consultancy.

The company built a new 220-kV power transformer factory, and is poised to meet demand in this sector nationally and in the region.

Siemens offers a wide range of solutions and services in Pakistan, where its Energy, Healthcare, Industry and Infrastructure & Cities Sectors occupy leading positions. In fiscal 2012, Siemens in Pakistan scored major successes in all four Sectors:

Energy Sector The Energy Sector in Pakistan caters to the market with a wide range of products, systems, solutions and services. Siemens turbines contribute approximately 1,600 MW to the national grid. Siemens has opened a local plant to produce transformers up to 220 kV rating, and has gained a significant foothold in maintenance and shutdown services. Rousch Power signed a long-term maintenance and service agreement with Siemens Pakistan. A contract was signed with Kot Addu Power Company Limited (KAPCO) to supply and install SI3D high-efficiency turbine blades to enhance the power output and efficiency of its combined cycle operation. Siemens Pakistan contributes to the countrys oil & gas segment through partnerships with engineering, 1

procurement and construction (EPC) suppliers, and by directly serving customers such as the Austria-based oil and gas company OMV, Pakistan Petroleum and National Refinery. In the segment of power transmission, Siemens provides power and distribution transformers rated from 11 kV to 220 kV as well as grid stations rated from 11 kV to 500 kV throughout Pakistan and Afghanistan, including air-insulated (AIS) and gasinsulated switchgear (GIS) grids. Recently, National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) and Agha Steel each awarded a 132-kV grid project to Siemens Pakistan. Siemens is pursuing solar, hydro and wind energy projects in Pakistan. With its extensive experience in tailoring renewable energy solutions to local conditions, Siemens can optimally integrate renewables into existing electrical systems. Siemens is the only company in Pakistan offering the grids and electrical equipment needed to support wind, solar and hydro projects.

Healthcare Sector The Healthcare Sector remains focused on providing state-of-the-art solutions and services to its client from its vast healthcare portfolio. In 2012, Siemens Pakistan received its first order for a 64-slice positron emission tomography/computed tomography PET/CT system, a Cyclotron and a comprehensive Hotlab and QC lab solution from the Neuro-Spinal and Medical Institute. Further orders during the year included cardiac angiography systems, X-ray units, mammography systems, and cardiac and general-purpose gamma cameras. Siemens Pakistan also received an order for three Digital Mobile X-ray units with flat panel detectors for the National TB control program, which is expected to be initiated during fiscal 2013. These will be the first mobile X-ray machines in Pakistan using flat panel detector technology.

Industry Sector Siemens strengthened its competitive market position through innovative and sustainable products and solutions for the countrys major industrial segments. The company delivered various electrical and automation solutions to high-potential industrial segments such as sugar, cement, food & beverages, chemicals, fertilizer, pulp & paper, pharmaceuticals, textiles and other manufacturing industries.

Siemens Pakistan extended its strategic partnership with MAN Diesel (Germany) and was awarded a contract for two control systems to be installed at two plants in Guinea, Africa, respectively. For these projects, Siemens will provide complete electrical control and SCADA systems. Siemens is the first value-added reseller of SAP software in Pakistan, and has supplied and installed various SAP modules in several leading industries both within Pakistan and abroad. Siemens is also the first SAP partner in Pakistan to establish support service centers for providing consistent and effective support to over 55 SAP customers. To date, more than 1,500 SAP consultants have been trained at the Siemens Education Center. Siemens won the prestigious SAP ERP Partner of the Year award and Best Education Partner of the Year for delivering outstanding value to its customers and winning the highest number of new customers.

Infrastructure & Cities Sector Siemens Pakistan has been providing answers to the countrys demand for sustainable infrastructures and urban solutions. Among the companys achievements were the completion of an airfield lighting solution for Pakistans first greenfield project, the Benazir Bhutto International Airport in Islamabad; the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of an integrated building management system (IBMS) for Dolmen Mall, Karachi, the biggest shopping mall in Pakistan; and providing smart grid turnkey automation solutions to the Karachi Electric Supply Company Load Dispatch Center.

Siemens' overall involvement in the region dates back 140 years. The company's name first became known through the construction of the Indo-European telegraph line from London to Calcutta in 1870. Siemens' first office in what is now Pakistan opened in 1922. The Siemens Pakistan Engineering Company Ltd. was founded in 1953 as a private company, and in 1963 the company was reorganized as a public limited company.

Siemens is actively involved in Pakistans university education. Siemens runs a threeyear apprenticeship program at its facility in Karachi. Last year, two leading engineering universities were provided with state-of-the-art automation labs. This gives engineering students a unique opportunity to gain access to the best knowledge and finest equipment available. Siemens also actively helped flood victims; the relief 3

provided in both cash and kind through global company efforts amounted to approximately EUR 2.5 million to date. The latest project in this relief effort was the installation of five water filtration plants in villages in Sindh; each plant can provide 10,000 liters of clean drinking water a day.
