Analysis:
Overall Visual Comparisons: When I initially looked at these samples, I saw that the Non-smoker kids household group has a larger spread than smoker kids household group because the FEV range for the Non-smoker kids household group at 5.002 litres is larger than smoker kids household group at 3.178 litres. The bottom half of Non-smoker kids household group is more spread out than the bottom half of smoker kids .This could also be due to the fact that the sample size of Non-smoker kids household group at 589 kids is much larger than smoker kids household group at 65 kids. Household group. The distribution of the smoker group has a more symmetrical and uniform spread than the non smoker group. There appears to be a large difference in median FEV level between the smoking and the Non smoking group. Centers: The median FEV level for the Non-smoker kids household group is 0.875 litres lower than the median for smoker kids household group. (Non smoker groups 1.920 litres compared to smoker groups 2.795 litres). IQR shift & overlap, spread: The middle 50% of the Non smoking group overlaps the middle 50% of the smoking group by a third with the lower quartile for the smoking group being 3.751 litres and the upper quartile for non-smoking group being 3.048 litres. The median for smoking group at 3.277 litres is 0.229 litres more than the upper quartile of the non smoking group at 3.048 litres. Furthermore, the median for non smoking group at 2.465 litres is 0.33 litres lower than the lower quartile for smoking group at 2.795 litres. The middle 50% of the non smoking group is slightly more spread out than the middle 50% of the smoking group because the Interquartile range for the non smoking group at 1.128 litres is slightly higher than the Interquartile range for the smoking group at 0.956 litres. This shows that theres slight difference in the middle 50% of FEV levels for smoking and non smoking group. This pattern may be reflected back in the population because of the raising awareness on the dangers of smoking which can see a decline in the smoking population. Also due to variation in the population in terms of race, age and body mass index, people could expect varying FEV levels in the population. These factors are said to play an important part in the pulmonary function of the lungs. Unusual: I thought it was unusual Shape: Conclusion:
