Language of Branches

The Language of the Branches is a symbolic term used to describe an idea. In order to grasp the meaning of this term, it would be helpful at this point to refer to Plato's Story of the Cave. In this story, mankind is trapped in the depths of a cave and their only sense of reality comes from the shadows that flicker on the cave walls. Their world is essentially one of shadows; however this is all they know of reality. These people have only a limited perspective on the true nature of reality. Then one day, one of these individuals makes his way out of the cave and is blinded by the bright sunlight. Unable to cope with this light he retreats back to the cave and its shadows. Once and a while some individuals will escape the limitations of the cave and take the long and winding road to discover a higher realm of consciousness, a true reality and a mystical awareness that G-d is the origin of everything that exists. We are like these men sitting in the cave; at this moment we only see the shadows. We don't see the real things; we see only reflections. The same situation exists with the Language of the Branches. Here we only see the tip of what exists in the Upper Worlds. The Language of the Branches is simply a means to discuss broad abstract ideas by using everyday ordinary words. Such is the case, when we use the image of a tree. Here you are asked to envision an upside down tree; where the roots of the tree are in the heavens above and the trunk, branches and tips of the branches face down toward earth. This image is being used to convey the idea that all of life is the end product of something much greater from up above. Everything we see in this world did not start here. It started some place else. The origin of everything is in the Upper Worlds. When a tree grows, you do not see the roots which hold and sustains it. The same can be said about the mysteries of life. From our perspective, we can only perceive 1% of Reality; 99% of the Total Reality is still hidden from us. According to Kabbalists, there are invisible truths lying under the surface of all things which only those willing to learn new ideas can grasp. Individuals who are comfortable with the World of Illusions will resist discovering anything that will challenge their set ways of seeing the world. But truth is embedded in the minds of mankind.
