Clearing Paper Jams From the Fuser Area

User Guide To avoid costly damage to the fusing assembly please follow these simple instructions.

Clearing jams from the fuser area

Use this procedure only in the following two situations:

Paper has jammed inside the fuser and cannot be removed from the top-cover area or the rear-output area. A sheet of paper has torn while trying to clear a jam from the fuser.

1. Turn the printer power off and unplug the power cord from the printer. Figure 33: Right-side and rear view of product

WARNING: The fuser is very hot. To avoid minor burns, wait 30 minutes for the fuser to cool before removing it from the printer. 2. Turn the printer so that its rear cover faces outward. If it is installed, remove the optional duplexer by lifting it up and then pulling it out. Figure 34: Optional duplexer removed

3. Open the rear output bin and pull the extension outward until it stops.

6. Remove the jammed paper. If necessary, lift the black plastic guide that is located on the top of the fuser to gain access to the jammed paper. It is also possible to turn the jam-clearing wheel that is located on the side of the fuser to attempt to eject the jammed paper.
