Al Al- HuJjat (ATFs)

In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful

The awaitied imam: Imam Mehdi

(a.s)

He was born on the 15th Shaban 255 A.H. in the city of Samarra. The momentous and singular aspects of his birth greatly resembled those under which the Prophet Musa (pbuh) was born. The birth of Hazrat Musa (pbuh) had signaled the downfall and extinction of the empire of Pharaoh, who had ordered the slaying of all the newly born children of Bani-Israel. The Abbaside kings were similarly apprehensive of the continuous traditions of the Holy Prophet about the birth of Imam Mehdi (atfs), who was to bring about a curse to their (Abbaside) very empire. They were, therefore, laying in ambush to discover the birth of the Imam and to put an end to his life. But the event of the Imam's birth was enveloped and shielded by the same Divine protection and miraculous phenomena which had marked the historical birth of Prophet Musa (pbuh). His birth remained strictly confidential and his nursery shrouded in secrecy except to a few devotees. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) has prophesied about several events that will occur just before the advent of the day of judgment. Among these, Rasulullah (pbuh) has foretold the advent of one of his descendants, Al Mahdi (the guided one), which will materialize when the believers are severely oppressed in every corner of the world. He will fight the oppressors, unite the Muslims, bring peace and justice to the world, rule over the Arabs, and lead a prayer in Makkah at which Isa (pbuh) (Jesus) will be present. As Muslims, we should remember that the prophecy about Imam Mahdi (atfs) is one that will come to pass.

Titles of Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) 1-Qamar-e-Banihashem (THE MOON OF BANIHASHEM'S PROGENY) 2-Saqqa' (THE ONE WHO BRINGS WATER) 3-Hamel-ul-Lava' (THE ONE WHO CARRIES THE FLAGS) 4-Raees-e-Askar-al-Hussain (THE COMMANDER OF IMAM HUSSAIN (A.S.)'S TROOPS)

Birth and Childhood Hazrat Ali(a.s.) married Fatimah Bint-e-Huzaam Ibne Khalid(a.s.) in 24 Hijrah. Fatimah gave birth to Hazrat Abbas(a.s.) on the 4th Shabaan, 26th Hijrah. In 27th Hijrah Ja'far was born and in 29th Hijrah Uthmaan was born. Abdullah was born in 32nd Hijrah. Because she had four sons Fatima Binti Huzaam (s.a)was known as Ummul Baneen (Mother of Sons). Ummul Baneen(s.a), from the very first day she entered Hazrat Ali's(a.s.) house, treated the children of Bibi Fatimah(s.a.) with utmost respect. She brought up her own sons to look upon Imam Hassan(a.s.), Imam Hussain (a.s.), Bibi Zainab(s.a) and Bibi Kulthoom(a.s.), not as brothers and sisters but as masters and mistresses. Imam Hussain(a.s.) was very attached to Hazrat Abbas(a.s.). When Hazrat Abbas(a.s.) was born, Hazrat Ali(a.s.) asked Imam Hussain(a.s.) to recite the adhaan and the iqamah in the ears of the child. When he was on the arms of Imam Hussain(a.s.), the infant smiled and raised his arms. There were tears in Imam Hussain's(a.s.) eyes. It was because he knew that the child was trying to say: "O Mawla I have come and will happily give these my arms and my life for you and Islam." In early childhood Hazrat Abbas(a.s.) would follow Imam Hussain(a.s.) like a shadow. If Imam Hussain(a.s.) looked thirsty, Abbas(a.s.) would rush to bring him water. If Imam Hussain(a.s.) seemed hot, Abbas(a.s.) would fan him with the hem of his cloak. At the battle of Siffeen in the 34th Hijrah, Abbas(a.s.) was only eight years old. Imam Hussain(a.s.) was fighting in the battle field. When Hazrat Abbas(a.s.) saw an enemy soldier approaching Imam Hussain(a.s.) from behind, he took a sword and rushed into the battle field and killed the enemy, at the same time crying out in a loud voice, "How can any one dare attack my Mawla while I am alive." He continued to fight maintaining his position behind Imam Hussain(a.s.). Muawiya saw this and asked, "Who is that boy?" When he was told he was Abbas ibn-e Ali, he said, "By God! No one can fight like that at that age except a son of Ali!" His youth Hazrat Abbas(a.s.) grew up to be a tall and handsome man. He was so tall, that when he sat on a horse his feet touched the ground. He was so handsome that he was known as Qamar-e-Bani Hashim, the Moon of the family of Hashim.Hazrat Abbas(a.s.) was also a valiant warrior. It was said that Muawiya did not dare invade Madina because of five men who were with Imam Hussain(a.s.) and could, together with their Imam, conquer a whole army. These were Muhammad Hanafia, a brother of Imam Hussain(a.s.), Hazrat Muslim ibn-e-Aqeel(a.s.), Abdullah Ibne-Jaffer(a.s.), Hazrat Abbas(a.s.) and Hazrat Ali ibn-al-Hussain(a.s.), our fourth Imam, Zainul 'Abideen(a.s.). When Imam Hussain(a.s.) decided to leave Madina in the month of Rajab 60 Hijrah, he did not encourage Muhammad Hanafia and Abdullah Ibn-e-Jaffer to accompany him. He wanted to make sure that no one at the time or in the future would suggest that Hussain(a.s.) wanted to fight for the khilafah. Just before Imam Hussain(a.s.) left Madina, Ummul Baneen(a.s.) summoned all her four sons and said to them, "My sons you must remember that while I love you, Imam Hussain(a.s.) is your Master. If Imam(a.s.) or his sisters or his children get injured or hurt while you are still alive, I will never forgive you." There were tears in Hazrat Abbas's(a.s.) eyes as he promised his mother that he and his brothers would lay down their lives for Imam Hussain(a.s.) and his children. Imam Sadiq (a.s.) Has Stated- When a Shia knows Imam Husain's (a.s.) right over the people and leaves his house for Imam's (a.s.) ziyarat in this condition, without any pride and conceit, then a 1,000 angels accompany him from the right, with another 1,000 angels on the left. And he will be rewarded as if he has performed 1,000 Hajj and 1,000 Umrah with a Prophet or with the successor (wasi) of a prophet. Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol 101, pg 91, tradition 33

Giving the imam (atfs) priority in our lives One of the responsibility of the believers is to place the wishes and desires of Imam al-Zamana (atfs) above our own wishes & desires. A true believer must always give precedence to the Imam`s requests over his own pleasure and happiness. Before believer carries out a task, one must first think to himself if that action is in accordance with the wishes of the Imam or not ? If one feels that the Imam will be happy with it, then one should go ahead and follow through-and that too only to earn the Imams satisfaction and not for ones own pleasure or to satisfy his lower desires. If an action one wishes to perform will not please that Imam, then one should not perform it.In essence, a believer should try to struggle against the lower self in order to earn the satisfaction of the Imam. A person who acts in this manner will definitely earn the attention of the Imam and will be of those whom the Imam will love. In turn, the Imam will remember that person in a positive way and supplicate for him. The following tradition narrated by Abi Abdillah, Imam Jafar b.Muhammad as-Sadiq (a.s) sheds more light on this issue in which a person asked Imam a question: Why do I hear you speak so much about Salman al-Farsi, O my master? The Imam (a.s) replied: Do not call him Salman al -Farsi,rather refer to him as Salman al Muhammadi.Do you know why I speak so much about him?The man replied to the Imam: No I do not know. The Imam said: Because of three traits which he possessed. The first one is that he preferred the wishes and desires of the Commander of the Faithful, Ali b.Abi Talib (a.s) over his own desires. The second reason is because he loved poor people and preferred them over those who had wealth and riches. The Third reason is due to his love of Knowledge and those who possess knowledge (The Ulama).Unquestionably Salman was a servant (of Allah),righteous, upright, submissive (to Allah) and he was not among the polytheists. What Does Islam Say About Environmental Justice?(by john green)

The color green has been associated with Islam since the time of Prophet Muhammad himself, but in recent years the color has also come to symbolize the Muslim commitment to sustainability. Grounded in the nature of God and his relation to humanity, Islamic teaching on environmental justice calls on Muslims to act as responsible stewards of all creation. Environmental Ethics in the Quran As University of Malaysia law professor Mohammad Hashim Kamali observes in his paper, Environmental Care in Islam: An Quranic Perspective, Islams regard for environmental ethics is apparent in the organization of its sacred scriptures. The titles of the Qurans suras, or chapters, refer both to the attributes of God and an array of natural phenomena, including animals, plants, insects, mountains and weather. This holistic vision of mans relation to God and the environment is likewis e evident in multiple passages of the Quran, such as 18:7, which indicates that people will be accountable for how they treat all of the earths beauty. Accordingly, Kamali notes, the Quran teaches that people can act unjustly not only by mistreating others, but by wasting and abusing natural resources. Unity and Sustainability: One foundational principle of Islamic environmental justice is unity, which is known in Muslim theology by the Arabic term, tawhid. As United Nations water and environmental expert Iyad Abumoghli explains in Sustainable Development in Islam, God expresses his oneness in the interconnected ecosystem of the earth and its inhabitants, and people must honor this divinely integrated order by acting in ways that are consistent with being part of greater whole. One key aspect of interconnectedness noted in the Quran is the link to subsequent generations. In teaching that people should use nature in such as way as not to exhaust or destroy the natural resources available for the future, Islam expresses what many believe to be the defining value of sustainable development. The Environment in the Balance: A related principle of Islamic environmental ethics, Kamali notes, is the importance of maintaining balance. The Quran and the Hadith, which contains reports of the sayings of Muhammad, make repeated references to Gods endowing the universe with a natural equilibrium, which in turn means that Muslims are to act in ways that are equitable and maintain the divine order. For example, Kamali cites the innate clarity of water and air as a reason for curbing pollution. Similarly, environmental ethicist Ali Mohamed Al Damkhi applies the balance principle to equal treatment of the environment in both poor and rich communities. According to Al Damkhi, an oil company that promotes green practices in the United States while wantonly exploiting an impoverished region elsewhere would be acting in an unbalanced manner that it is inherently unjust. Khalifa Allah The Steward of God: Besides a general obligation to respect the principles of oneness and balance in Gods creation, Islam teaches that humanity has a special responsibility to care for the environment. As Muhammad says in the Hadith, The world is sweet and green, and verily Allah has installed you as Khalifa, which is Arabic for steward, vicegerent or trustee. Humanitys role as the earthly Khalifa of God has a distinctly legal significance, inasmuch as nature has been given not as a possession, but to hold in trust on Gods behalf. Imam Hussain ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib

(a.s)

Imam Hussain ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib Father: Imam Ali Amir Mu'minin (a.s) Mother: Fatimah az-Zahra (s.a) - the daughter of the Holy Prophet Muhammad. Kunniyat (Patronymic): Abu Abdullah Laqab (Title): Saiyd-ush-Shohada Birth: He was born in Madina on Thursday, 3rd of Shaban 4 A.H Martyrdom: Martyred at Karbala aged 57 Years on Monday, 10th of Moharram 61 A.H. and buried there. Imam Hussain (a.s) Birth In the House of the Holy Prophet, which presented the best image of both the worlds - the heaven and the earth - a child who benefited humanity as if he was a Divine Impression reflecting the earth, was born on one of the nights of the month of Sha'ban. His father was Imam Ali (a.s), the best model of kindness towards his friends and the bravest against the enemies of Islam, and his mother was Hazrat Fatimah (s.a), the only daughter and child of the Holy Prophet (pbuh), who had as universally acknowledged, inherited the qualities of her father. When the good news of his birth reached the Holy Prophet, he came to his daughter's house, took the newly-born child in his arms, recited adhan and iqamah in his right and left ears respectively, and on the 7th day of his birth, after performing the rites of 'aqeeda, named him al-Hussain, in compliance with Allah's command. 'Abdullah ibn 'Abbas relates: "On the very day when Imam Hussain (a.s) was born, Allah (s.w.t) ordered angel Gabriel to descend and congratulate the Holy Prophet on His Behalf and on his own. While descending, Gabriel passed over an island where the angel Futrus had been banished due to his delay in executing a commission assigned by Allah (s.w.t). He was deprived of his wings and expelled to the island where he remained for several years praying and worshipping Allah and asking for His forgiveness. "When the angel Futrus saw Gabriel, he called out, 'Where are you going, O Gabriel?' To this he replied, 'Hussain, the grandson of Muhammad is born, and for this very reason Allah has commanded me to convey His congratulations to His Apostle.' Thereupon, the angel said, 'Can you carry me also along with you? May Muhammad (pbuh) recommend my case to Allah.' Gabriel took the angel along with him, came to the Holy Prophet, offered congratulations to him on behalf of Allah and himself and referred the case of the angel to him. The Holy Prophet said to Gabriel, 'Ask the angel to touch the body of the newly-born child and return to his place in Heaven.' On doing this, the angle re-obtained his wings instantly and praising the Holy Prophet and his newly- born grandson, ascended towards the Heaven. Hasan and Hussain, the two sons of the Holy Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib and Hazrat Fatimah, our Lady of Light, were respected and revered as the 'Leaders of the Youths of Paradise' as stated by the Holy Prophet.

The l if e of Imam sa j jad

(A.s)

Our 4th Imam, and his most renowned titles of honour are:Zain-al-Abidinand Sajjad. He was born in Madina in the year 38 (A.H). His Birth and blessings The 4th Imam after Imam Hussain(a.s.) was his son Imam Ali Zain-al-Abideen(a.s.). His mother was Bibi Shahar Bano who was a princess from Persia, the daughter of the Kind Yazd Gard II. She was brought as a prisoner of war during the caliphate period of mam Ali(a.s.) during 31 A.H. and Imam Ali(a.s.) got her freed and married her to Imam Hussain(a.s.). Imam Zain-al-Abideen was born from this wedlock. She, however, died within 10 days of the birth of Imam Sajjad(a.s.). His title Zain-al-Abideen was granted to him by the Holy Prophet(pbuh) himself who mentioned that on the day of judgement a call for Zain-al-Abideen will be made and my son Ali bin al-Hussain(a.s.) will respond to the call saying "Labbaik". His other Title, Syed -us-Sajideen, was given because of his devotion to prayers. He would pray for long durations specially during the nights and would pray a lot of prayers of gratitude - Namaz-eShukrana.Imam Sajjad(a.s.) spent the first 2 years of his life under the care of his grandfater Imam Ali(a.s.) and after his death in 50 A.H., he was brought up under the care of the 2nd Imam Hasan(a.s.). Imam Sajjad(a.s.) was married to the Bibi Fatima(a.s.) - daughter of Imam Hasan(a.s.). Imam Hasan (a.s.) was martyred in 50 A.H. and the Imamate of Imam Hussain(a.s.) started which terminated on 10th Moharram 61 A.H. from where the Imamate of Imam Sajjad(a.s.) began. Attention to the life and training of people: Imam Zain-ul-Abidin (a.s), like his grandfather, was busy in cultivating land and palm date orchards. He offered two Rakat of prayer near each palm date tree. During the prayers he would get himself so absorbed that he did not have any attention towards anything except God. He traveled to Mecca, on foot, twenty times. And continuously guided and conducted people through the attractive melody of the Qur'anic verses. All the human qualities and attributes were collectively present in his personality. He was the complete specimen of tolerance, forgiveness and self-sacrifice. He looked after and administrated hundreds of houses of the poor and hunger stricken. Daily a number of goats were slaughtered in his house and he distributed all their meat among the afflicted. He dressed the naked and dress less ones and paid their debts and loans. But he himself took simple meals and put on simple dress.A person came to Ali Ibn-ulHussain (a.s) and started addressing him with filthy and abusive language. Imam (a.s) turned his face towards him without the slightest anger and quarrel or strife and said, "Oh brother, if what you say is right and correct and these vices are present in me then God may pardon and forgive my sin. And if you are telling a lie then God may forgive you and pardon your sin."The man was very much ashamed and asked Imam (a.s) to pardon him. Abu Hamza Somali who was one of the friends of Imam (a.s) asked his servant to briefly define the character and morals of Imam (a.s) He said so, "I am at his service for so many years. Whatever I saw was righteousness, piety and purity. My lord helps and assists the people and solves their problems, with all the difficulties worries and pre occupations that he himself faces. Zaid bin Usama was lying on the deathbed. Imam Sajjad (a.s) visited him, Zaid was weeping. When Imam (a.s) asked him the reason of his weeping he said, "I have to pay fifteen thousand Dinnars as my loan and debt and my wealth is not so much as to pay off the debt." Imam said, "Do not weep and be contented, I will pay all of your loan."When the nights would become dark and all the people went to sleep, Imam Sajjad (a.s) would get up put the food in a sack and on his shoulder. He covered his face so that he is not recognized. Then he took that food to the houses of the inflicted and have-nots and gave it to them.He administrated and looked after nearly a hundred guardians less family in Madina, most of them comprised indigent, helpless and crippled, handicapped and paralytic ones.

IMAM Al - MAHDI

(atfs)

:Our Duty during his Absence

The Reappearance Prophets Isa, Khizr, Ilias, and Idris (a.s) will give allegiance to the Imam (atfs)when he reapers. Also Jibrael will announce 313 companions of the Imam. These 313 companions will be people of eminent piety, great knowledge and absolutely steadfast in their determination and faith towards the Imam. Another 1000 people will be in the army of the Imam. These people will fight battles and kill enemies like Dajal, who will appear from India. Dajal will have the musical tunes with him. Then the Imam will lead the prayers, Prophet Isa (a.s) will be behind him. Now the question arises ,what is the duty of a Shi'ite? What responsibilities does he have? Truly, are we reckoned among the real followers of His Eminence (Imam al-Mahdi AS)? If we study the lives of the devout Shi'ites (followers) of the Holy Imams before the Twelfth Imam, and consider their sacrifices without the slightest hesitation, we shall at once awake from our neglectful slumber and realize our weakness and guilt. Were not Salman al-Farsi, Abu Dharr al-Ghaffari, Ammar ibn Yasir and Malik al-Ashtar the followers of the contemporary Imam Ali, Amir al-mu'minin (as), and are we too the followers of the Imam of our Age? Was not Maytham al-Tammar, who did not cease to praise Ali, the Prince of the Faithful, a follower of His Eminence Ali, and are we too, who are passing with the Imam of our Age through a strange period, the followers of His Eminence? Were not the martyrs of Karbala, who with love strived in the way of defending the Imam of their time, Husayn (a.s), and were martyred, the followers of His Eminence, and are we too, who refuse to give our wealth, lives and other means in the way of the Imam of our time, His Eminence's followers? From what we read of the glad tidings in the Qur'an and the traditions of the Holy Prophet and the infallible Imams, the Imam of the Age (Imam-e-Zamana) has special responsibilities which other Imams did not have. Imam-e-Zaman will establish a Universal Government. He will fill the earth with righteousness and justice. He will exploit the earth's treasures and natural resources. He will improve and develop the land, and in this way people's awareness and understanding will improve. Therefore, do not the followers of His Eminence have a very particular duty? Should not the Shi'ites endeavour to obtain the competence and merit of being His Eminence's special companions when he reappears by Divine Command? Therefore, let us see what our duties are and how we should observe them. Undoubtedly, our first duty is to become acquainted with him.

IMAM MUSAAL-KAZIM(a.s)
The Moral Behaviour of Imam Al-Kazim (a.s.)-Caring for Poor One of the Imams and the Members of the Household of the Prophet (pbuh) is Imam Musa bin Jaafar Al-Kazim (a.s.). He was concerned with all what the Muslims in his time faced, living with the people, trying to help them, finding solutions to their problems, and correcting any false ideas they might had hadHe used to be of great manners that were similar to the great morals of the Prophet himself. He (a.s.) was called al-Kazim meaning, one who holds his temper and controls his anger, because he used to face all persecution and harm with tolerance and even with being good and charitable to those who mistreated him. Imam Al-Kazim (a.s) used to search for the poor of Medina during the night and take them a basket of flour and dates as well as a purse of Dirhams and Dinars to give to them but no one knew where this favour came from. Muhammad Ibn Abdullah Bakri reported: I went to Medina to take a loan but no one offered me any. So I said to myself, I would better go to Imam Musa (a.s) and tell him about my grievances. Hence, I went to him at Naqma at his estate. The Imam came to me along with his servant. He had a b asket in his hand with pieces of chopped-up meat which I shared with him and then he asked about my needs. I told him the story and we set out for his house. He went inside and after a few seconds, he came out giving me a basket of three hundred Dinars. I was satisfied and I mounted the mule and left Medina Through this Islamic humanitarian care that is represented by the behaviour of Imam Al-Kazim (a.s.) who hastened to give food and money to the poor, we can deduce that he is a role model in his spiritual and humanitarian care since he felt with the pains and problems of the poor and was humble with them, without letting them know who he was. Thus, this is Ahlull-Bayat's path that the Ayah from Holy Quran has expressed: We only feed you for Allah's sake; we desire from you neither reward nor thanks. (76:9)]

The Prophet (PBUH) said: "Even if the entire duration of the world's existence has already been exhausted and only one day is left before Doomsday (Day of judgment), Allah will expand that day to such a length of time, as to accommodate the kingdom of a person out of my Ahlul-Bayt who will be called by my name. He will then fill out the earth with peace and justice as it will have been full of injustice and tyranny before then." Sahih Tirmidhi(V2-P86)

O you who believe! Stand out firmly for Allah and be just witnesses and let not the enmity and hatred of others make you avoid justice. Be just: that is nearer to piety, and fear Allah. Verily, Allah is Well-Acquainted with what you do. (Al- Maaidah 5:8)
