A real perspective
Name: Karan Puri Country: India Course: MSc in Banking and International Finance Cass focuses on hands-on, practical experience along with a sound theoretical basis. Most lecturers on the course were still part of the industry, therefore they were able to provide us with relevant, practical case studies, whilst linking this to academic thinking. The programme provided me with the basis for my research. I am very interested in fund management and, upon completion of my studies in finance, I would like to forge a career in absolute return tracker funds and hedge funds.

Name: Christina Emseis Country: Cyprus Course: MSc in Supply Chain, Trade and Finance A family friend studying at Cass last year recommended the programme to me. Although I found my under-graduate course interesting, it was extremely broad and I was unsure of the area of business I wanted to specialise in. This course has definitely given me guidance towards an area of business that I would thoroughly enjoy. I aim to be a high flyer. I would like towork for an organisation to gain experience and eventually start my own business. I believe the programme will open up wider career opportunities for me and allow me to excel in the area of Supply Chain Management.

Real Estate
MSc in Real Estate MSc in Real Estate Investment
Full-time www.cass.city.ac.uk/mscrei This course is aimed at those students wishing to enter or advance their careers in the fields of real estate investment management, real estate finance and the securitised real estate markets. The course combines the rigour of a mainstream finance programme with the direct application of financial theory and techniques in a real estate context. It deals extensively with the growth in the securitised real estate markets of Real Estate Investment Trusts and Mortgage Backed Securities. It also examines the growing real estate derivatives market. The programme is designed for students with relevant undergraduate degrees or work experience and strong quantitative skills. Name: Will Elgood Country: UK Course: MSc in Real Estate Investment I heard about Cass through several former colleagues who had studied here. The MSc enjoys a vastly superior reputation in the market compared to those offered by other institutions. Before starting the course I was working in real estate advisory and transaction support. I chose to study for the MSc as the credit crunch offered me an opportunity to reflect on my personal goals and requirements for my next career phase. The scope of the course resulted in my studying more general aspects of finance, portfolio management and quantitative analysis, which are far more advanced than anything I have been exposed to in a work environment.

Name: Anna Potkina Country: Russia Course: MSc in International Accounting and Finance At Casss careers fairs I learned about companies in the UK financial markets, and there were a number of really large companies I had never heard of before. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn about the graduate programmes companies have and to find out who they are looking to recruit. Interestingly, at the careers fair I could ask company representatives about the type of questions I could be asked later at my job interviews. I took a number of one-to-one sessions with Casss careers advisers to polish my CV. I also attended presentations and interview skills sessions at Cass and read presentations on how to write covering letters on the Cass careers website. I took one-to-one sessions to improve my interview skills and to learn to identify my weak points, which may be visible to interviewers, so I could work on improving them. These sessions were really helpful. I took a lot of them because there was a lot of work to be done. I must confess that I evolved into a different personality at Cass as my overall attitude to the recruitment process changed. I now know how to write a CV that sells itself, know what answers interviewers want to hear and why networking is a winning formula.
