Bishop, respected principal, distinguished invitees, dignitaries on and off the dias, esteemed press & print media, my dear graduates and parents It gives me an immense pleasure, to extend a very hearty welcome to our most esteemed vice-chancellor of Thiruvalluvar University and introduce him. Dr. P Gunasekaran, the guest of honour of this convocation is the most outstanding, brilliant, erudite academician, researcher, consultant and administrator who is currently serving as 4th Vice chancellor of Thiruvalluvar University. Before adorning this office he has served as senior professor and Head, in the Madurai Kamaraj University and acclaimed as professor of eminent at the national and international level in the field of micro biology, bio technology and genomics. His fact file would speak volumes about his contributions in the form of discovery, innovation and dissemination of scientific knowledge in the field of micro biology, bio technology and genomics for the development of health, industry and agriculture. Our chief guest is started as a academic pursuits in MK University and held different portfolios as member-syndicate, special officer for planning and development and vice chancellor in-charge in the university administration. During his academic tenure he as served as member of Finance, Purchase, Accounts, Audit, Research, Building and Selection of staff committees in MK University and acted as coordinator for UGC Centre for excellence in genomics science Networking resource centre in biological sciences, DBT Integrated Programme for advanced research and education, DST MHRD Centre for Excellence in Bio-medical sciences and University in potential for excellence of MK University. He has also travelled across the length and breadth of the world and conductive collaborative exchange programme in USA, UK, France, Japan Hungary and Mexico. He has also served as visiting professor A & M University-USA, Exchange visiting scientist in the university of Budapest Hungary and Birmingham University UK and invited professor and division chair in Mexico, France and other several international universities.

Our chief guest is received several awards & honours in India and abroad, government of Tamil Nadu, UGC, international board of American society of Micro biology and Indian association of applied microbiology soon. Our chief guest has developed state of heart laboratory in MK University by his own project worth Rs.55.10 Crore. His equipped with almost all sophisticated instruments needed for research in Micro Biology, Molecular Biology and related subjects. He has also established in MK University, a) UGC Networking Resource Centre in a Biological Sciences and DST FIST Facility The Centre for Excellence in Genomics sciences c) Centre of Excellence in flow Cytometry and d) MHRD centre of excellence in Advance research and education. Besides organising national and international conferences at MK university, he had chaired more than hundred sciences session in various national and international symposia and conferences. His contribution for the knowledge creation an d development through national scientific society is remarkable and for excellence in the field of his specialisation. To equip the faculty of microbiology, genomics he has conducted number of winter ad summer schools , workshop and staff colleges at the national level to bring force and life in the subjects of his specialisation. He has guided 31 Ph.D and 12 Ph.D in the Pipe line besides many M.Phil and M.Sc Projects. He has published 132 Articles in national and international journals with impact factor t20 and his articles are cited more than 660 times. He has published 20 books and presented 186 paper in conferences and he has served as editor for Journals in biology and biotechnology. His vision is to make our university with potential for excellence and he has stated working to attain this through getting 12b status from UGC steppingup phase-II infrastructure development in university campus and creation of statue/ordinance of university to ensure for good governance. We have witness remarkable improvement in the quality and life of the university during the last 6 month of the assumption of office of vice-chancellorship of university by revamping and reorganising the university.
