Rel-10 LTE-Advanced
The ITU has coined the term IMT-Advanced to identify mobile broadband systems whose capabilities go beyond those of IMT 2000. Requirements l Enhanced peak data rates to support advanced services and applications 100 Mbps DL for high mobility 1 Gbps DL / 500 Mbps UL for low mobility l Increased spectrum efficieny (> 30 bps/Hz) Other requirements include l Compatibility of services within IMT and with fixed networks, l Capability of interworking with other radio access systems, l High quality mobile services, l User equipment suitable for worldwide use, l User-friendly applications, services and equipment, l Worldwide roaming capability, l Etc.
3GPP LTE-Advanced (Rel-10 and beyond) meets these requirements and has been submitted as a candidate radio interface technology for IMT-Advanced.

Parallel transmission of multiple component carriers There is one transport block (in absence of spatial multiplexing) and one HARQ entity per scheduled component carrier (from the UE perspective), Two different approaches are discussed how to inform the UE about the scheduling for each band,
Separate PDCCH for each carrier, Common PDCCH for multiple carrier,
e.g. 20 MHz

CoMP - Basics
l l
Coordinated multiple point transmission & reception CoMP aims to turn the inter-cell interference into a useful signal specifically at the cell border to enhance cell edge throughput
Multiple geographically separated eNBs
LTE-Advanced
CoMP - Basics
CoMP Transmission (Downlink) Joint Processing Coordinated Scheduling / Beamforming Dynamic cell selection Data available at serving cell only Data transmitted from one eNB but user scheduling / beamforming decisions are made with coordination among cells
Joint transmission
Data available at each transmission point Data transmitted simultaneously from multiple eNBs Data transmitted from one eNB at a time
CoMP Reception (Uplink) UE UL signal (PUSCH) is received and processed by multiple eNBs Scheduling is coordinated among cells

Relaying
l l l
Relaying enhances cell coverage and capacity UE communicates with a relay eNB, which in turn communicates with a donor eNB LTE-Advanced defines 2 types of relay nodes Type 1 Type 2
LTE-Advanced
l Two enhancements l Control-data decoupling (simultaneous PUSCH and PUCCH transmission) l Non-contiguous data transmission (clusters of subcarriers can be allocated)
