Camp Awakening Time Killers

Throughout the next few days there will be various times during which your campers will have down time as they wait for meals, activities, etc. Please engage your campers in these activities to ensure that they are occupied as they wait.

1 INUIT BLANKET TOSS

*A large blanket is required for this activity One camper is placed in the centre of the blanket and the rest of the campers organize themselves around the edge of the blanket. Then each person picks up their edge of the blanket simultaneously. The counsellor then counts to three and they toss the camper in the centre in the air. The larger the blanket, the higher you can toss the camper in the centre in the air.

2 WHAT IF?
Organize your campers in a circle ad go in order from your right. Counsellors should also answer the questions to help engage their campers. 1. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go? 2. If I gave you $10,000, what would you spend it on? 3. If you could watch your favourite movie now, what would it be? 4. If you could talk to anyone in the world, who would it be? 5. If you could wish one thing to come true this year, what would it be? 6. If you could live in any period of history, when would it be? 7. If you could change anything about yourself, what would you change? 8. If you could be someone else, who would you be? 9. If you could have any question answered, what would it be? 10. If you could watch your favourite TV show now, what would it be? 11. If you could have any kind of pet, what would you have? 12. If you could do your dream job 10 years from now, what would it be? 13. If you had to be allergic to something, what would it be? 14. If you sat down next to the Prophet Muhammad on a bus, what would you talk about? 15. If money and time was no object, what would you be doing right now? 16. If you had one day to live over again, what day would you pick? 17. If you could eat your favourite food now, what would it be? 18. If you could learn any skill, what would it be? 19. If you were sent to live on a space station for three months and only allowed to bring three personal items with you, what would they be? 20. If you could buy a car right now, what would you buy?

3 THE SHOE
*Tell your campers the steps gradually so they dont take note of their partners shoe prior to being blindfolded. Have each camper find a partner and have each pair sit next to one another in a circle. Take blindfold and blindfold one of the partners in each pair. This can be done using hats, scarves or shirts. Now the non-blindfolded person will take off one shoe and throw it into the middle of the circle. When you say go the blindfolded camper has to go to the middle of the circle and bring back their partners shoe. Their partner can scream and yell from their seats, but cannot touch them or physically guide them to their shoe.

4 WOULD YOU RATHER?

Line your campers up in a line and ask them to step forward and backward depending on their response or stand up/sit down. For example, Would you rather visit the doctor or dentist? Stand up for doctor. Stay seated for dentist. Feel free to add your own questions. Visit the doctor or the dentist? Eat broccoli or carrots? Watch TV or listen to music? Own a lizard or a snake? Have a beach holiday or a mountain holiday? Be an apple or a banana? Be invisible or be able to read minds? Be hairy all over or completely bald? Be the most popular or the smartest person you know? Make headlines for saving somebody's life or winning a Nobel Prize? Go without television or fast food for the rest of your life? Have permanent diarrhoea or permanent constipation? Be handsome/beautiful and dumb or be ugly and really smart? Always be cold or always be hot? Not hear or not see? Eliminate hunger and disease or be able to bring lasting world peace? Be stranded on a deserted island alone or with someone you don't like? See the future or change the past? Be three inches taller or three inches shorter? Wrestle a lion or fight a shark?

5 TALL STORIES
As the counsellor you start story with a sentence that ends in SUDDENLY. The next person then has to add to the story with his own sentence that ends in SUDDENLY. Continue the story until everyone has contributed. The story becomes crazier as each camper adds their sentence. If possible, record it and

play it back. For example, Yesterday I went to the zoo and was passing the elephant enclosure when SUDDENLY.....

6 60 SECONDS!
The aim of the game is to talk for one minute on a given subject. You announce the topic and a member of the group is randomly selected to speak for one minute. If possible, you can use a pack of cards to randomly select i.e. person who draws the lowest number. Put a stopwatch on each person to see how long they last before drying up! Feel free to use your own topics. Sunshine Dirt Squirrel Toilet paper The story of a leaf Hair Moustaches

7 PASS THE ORANGE

*A small ball or orange is required for this activity Get your campers to form a circle. Give the first person a large orange and explain they need to pass this around the circle. No problem. BUT, it has to be passed around the circle using only their chin and neck. If the orange is dropped, it must be returned to the previous player in the circle and the game restarts. A camera is a must for this game!

8 BACKWARD BUNCHES
Divide your campers into pairs. Ask each pair to sit on the floor with their partner, backs together, feet out in front and arms linked. Their task is to stand up together. Once everyone has done this, two pairs join together and the group of four try to repeat the task. After they succeed, add another two and try again. Keep adding people until your whole group is trying to stand together.

9 GOTCHYA!
Organize your campers into a circle. Instruct them to hold their left palm up while their right index finger points down, touching their neighbor's outstretched palm. Then say, When I say the word go, do two things.... grab the finger in your left hand, and prevent your right finger from being grabbed... 1 ... 2 ... 3... Go!" You can change go to crazy words like boat, camp, etc.

10 REACT
Choose one of your camper and give them one of the scenarios below. They must react to the occurrence using animated expressions, gestures, and words without explicitly saying what their scenario is. After a set amount of time, the other campers try to guess what happened that caused those reactions and actions. Feel free to make up your own scenarios. Being surprised by a large, aggressive bear in the woods You just won the lottery You just got fired by an incompetent boss Making the game winning pass to win the Superbowl

11 SHIPWRECKED
Read the following scenario to your campers: The situation is dire! Following a disastrous shipwreck, everyone has been stranded on a deserted island! Each person is allowed to bring one object to the island ideally something that represents them or something that they enjoy. Ask each camper to describe what object they would bring and why. This need not be realistic; if someone loves music, he or she might choose to bring a guitar, or an animal lover might choose to bring a dog, a food lover might choose to bring sirloin steaks, and so on. Encourage your campers to be creative.

12 THE SHOE GAME

Instruct your campers to take off their right shoe and throw it in a pile. On the count of three instruct them to grab a shoe at random from the pile and put it on. Once they have completed this, they must find the person who is wearing the same shoe as them and stand so that the shoes are touching. You can make it more fun/challenging by giving them a time limit.

13 OFF TO THE BIG APPLE

Divide you campers into two teams where team one decides on an occupation that they will act out for the other team to guess. Team one then moves toward the other team while saying the following dialogue: Team one: We're going to New York Team two: What's your trade? Team one: Lemonade Team two: Give us some, or go away. The campers in team one then act out the occupation and the other team guesses out loud.

14 TELEPHONE CHARADE
Organize your campers into a row. Then have the first person come up and present their scenario. The second person in the line is then instructed to turn around and see the first persons charade. Thereupon the first person goes back in the line and the second person comes to the front while the third person turns around to face the front. The last person standing in line attempts to guess what the original clue was. Some examples for each round are: A pantomime A cat bathing itself Going skydiving Fishing and catching a huge fish

15 MAFIA
One of the counsellors will act as the moderator for the game. You can play a practice round before actually starting the game. 1. Get campers to sit in a circle and close their eyes. Then walk around the circle. You will need to pick a Mafia leader, a Doctor and a Detective. 2. Tell the group to close their eyes and instruct the Mafia leader to open their eyes and pick a victim to kill by pointing. Then instruct them to close their eyes again. 3. Tell the Detective to open their eyes and guess who the Mafia leader is. You will nod or shake your head to let them know if they are right whereupon they will close their eyes. 4. Finally tell the doctor to open their eyes and tell them to pick someone to save whereupon they close their eyes. If the doctor does not save the victim but someone else nothing will happen. 5. Now instruct everyone to wake up. Inform the group who was killed and if the doctor managed to save them. 6. Now its time for discussions as people try to guess who the mafia leader is. Allow the campers 1-3 minutes to discuss who the leader may be. Then go around the circle asking each person who they think the killer is. If Aysha says Rehana is the killer then Rehana will raise a finger to keep track. 7. The person with the most fingers up will be killed and you will inform the group if they have in fact caught the mafia leader. If not repeat steps 2-7 until the Mafia leader is caught. Notes: Try to make the game more interesting by telling it in story-style, One dark night in MAC town.
