Builders Beams Ltd, has been supplying steelwork to the building trade since 1992, offering a fabrication, welding, surveying, steel detailing, estimating and steel erection service. From our facility in Crawley, West Sussex we distribute throughout the South East of England and Northern Home Counties. There are three main parts to Builders Beams Ltd:
Builders Beams Reinforcing, Fabric, Rebar and Accessories

Having acquired the Parker Steel reinforcing business in April 2007, Builders Beams Ltd can offer highly competitive pricing on reinforcing mesh, cut and bent and all other associated accessories. Once again through our own supply chain, we can offer same day collection and 24 hour deliveries from our stock range. Orders for rebar would have a delivery time scale of approximately 48 hours.
Builders Beams Fast Track

The primary function of our business is to supply Universal Beams, Universal Columns and Channels either through preferred builders merchants or direct. These beams can be supplied at any length and generally involve very little fabrication work. They can be supplied on a fast turnaround basis, which can be either same day collection or delivery from 24 hours.

For over 7 years Builders Beams Ltd have been the southern stockist for Kingspan Building Components Ltd. Utilising our Site operation and the Supply Chain Strategy that drives Builders Beams, we serve Kingspan customers and our own client base as a small order, quick delivery service supplier. Ordered from our stock range we can supply these products in 24 hours or offer same day collection nationally. These products if ordered direct from Kingspan can take up to 3-4 weeks from order to delivery.

MULTIBEAM WHY STEEL? PURLINS
An increasing number of Builders, Engineers and Architects are specifying steel in place of more traditional materials such as timber. This is because steel has the following properties that prove to be advantageous:
Greater floor loadings can be achieved, up to 4 times that of more traditional materials.
Steel is 20 35 times stiffer in deflection and therefore provides more rigidity. Steel has a much better strength to size ratio thereby providing greater interior space. Steel can be proved by engineers with regards to loading and strength. Steel provides the flexibility and usability to be fashioned into more intricate structures. Up to 60% of UK steel is made from recycled material.

Universal Beam (UB)

I shaped beam but can also be described as an H shaped beam. It is not, as it is sometimes misconstrued, a U shape. Universal Beams are always higher than their width. Sizes range from127mm high to 915mm high. Dimensions 1st dimension is always the height 2nd dimension is always the width 3rd dimension is always the weight in kilograms per metre.

ANGLE
Universal Column (UC)

It can also be described as an I shaped beam or as an H shaped beam. It is not a universal channel, which is a common misconception. Sizes range from 100mm high to 305mm high. Originally designed for usage as posts or columns, however, todays current usage is more frequently in that of a conventional beam. This is mainly due to its reduced height and increased strength as a beam. Dimensions UCs come in standard sizes and its height and width are always the same. FLAT
CHS
Parallel Flange Channel (PFC)

C shaped beam this is not a UC. Sizes range from 50mm high to 400mm high. The old term used for PFC was RSC or rolled steel channel. This may still be requested.

All shapes where standard shapes cannot be used. No other shape code number, form of designation or abbreviation shall be used in scheduling. A dimensioned sketch shall be drawn over the dimension columns A to E. Every dimension shall be specified and the dimension that is to allow for permissible deviations shall be indicated in parenthesis, otherwise the fabricator is free to choose which dimension shall allow for the tolerance.
Notes: The length equations for shape codes 47, 51 and 63 are for when dimensions C and D are to be minimised. + max(14 d, 150) means add the greater value of either 14 d or 150mm.
