The CPP-GUARD/308 monitoring systems are based on a combination of sensing cables, measurement instruments and data processing software. The combination of two different types of sensor cables guarantees a hundred percent detection of any disturbance or tamper under any circumstances. The tribo cable detects any sensing motion or impact along the pipeline while the vibro sensor cable detects any vibration disturbance of motion.

Disturbances such as digging, ploughing, vandalism, oil tapping, etc, can be detected through distributed temperature measuring of sensor signals and strain monitoring before any damage is done to the pipeline.

Leakages can have different causes, including excessive deformations caused by earthquakes, landslides or collisions with ship anchors, corrosion, wear, material flaws or even intentional damaging. This can also be detected and localised using distributed temperature sensors. Fluid pipelines generate a hot-spot at the location of the leak, while gas pipelines generate a cold-spot due to the gas pressure relaxation. These localized thermal anomalies can be detected by a distributed measurement with good spatial time and temperature resolution such as being provided by both the tribo and vibro cable deployment.

The CPP-GUARD/308, using the temperature measuring scale, is able to determine the increased stresses due to external actions such as landslides and earthquakes or to internal causes such as a reduction of cross-section due to corrosion and wear or oil congestion.

Over time and as a function of hydrocarbon chemistry, oil flow lines in pipelines can become clogged by the formation of wax or hydrate deposits. These deposits restrict the pipe diameter limiting oil flow. When such a situation occurs, Casstel pipeline monitoring is able to detect the congestion and give the required alarm signal.

The Casstel CPP-GUARD/308 architectures include four basic elements: Casstel Sensor Elements: Tribo + Vibro Cables buried alongside the pipeline Video detection equipment Threat assessment and alarms correlation Data communication system

The Casstel command and control systems software continually monitors intrusions such as third party, leakages, earth movement and pipeline congestions, detecting and locating events and changes in the system. In the event of any or a combination of the above mentioned hazards occurring, the system typically triggers alarms that are correlated and displayed in a simple manner so that rapid threat assessment can be made and appropriate action taken.
