RETROSPECTIVE
Looking back over the year 1952 we recall to Tnind many memorable occasions. To show you these in pic tures would take several pages. Suffice it for now to recall these memories in writing.
The first nine months of 1952 were dedicated to

preaching the Gospel of Christ at Walle. However, in January-February we held a 3 week tent meeting at Malcaha--the other missionaries of Hawaii assisting. It reminded me of the oldtime tent meetings of long ago.
Three adults answered Christ's call to salvation. Due

to the wonderful prospects for a New Testament Church at Wakaha we bought a half acre lot and a used army surplus building to be converted into a Chapel. An appeal.for funds was made for this_ purpose In the spring we conducted a meeting at Maile Chapel-no conversions, but ruch good was accomplished

We rejoice in the Lord (Phil. Ati) as we nalce this report eonoemlng the work of the klsgdoB. Qod has wonderfully blessed us in the work here and we are continually thankful. We have good news to report in this bulletin, then you will rejoice too.

After the tent meeting we made a down payment on the lot and also a down payment on a 25' x 50' used army building. In July we sold our Malle home using the cash down payBent we could get from it and other gifts froo nissionaries, churches, and friends and bemn in earnest to convert the any building into a ehapel and parsonage. During the simmer we had four nore additions3 youths by bap

Gradually our attend ance has inoreaaed as we have become acquainted with more people and in Jan. and Feb. of <53 we averaged 25, and this pleases us very muoh. The greatest thrill, however, cones to a missionary when lost souls repent and surrender their hearts and lives to Christ. In February of this year we also had three converts. In the precious nane of Christ onr Lord we send you greetings. It is again iry pleasure to write you concerning the Lord's work here in Makaha. Our Heavenly Father has continually blessed our

March and April have been (as Usual) busy sonths. When we look back over
the events that transpired we see that we didn't accoBtplish near all that we had planned. Tet^ on the other hand more was accomplished than we had ex

pect^. Let Be explain these statements.

Besides pastoral duties and worship services in March, we had hoped to

construct the balance of S benches (pews) that we need to fill the Makaha Chapel. We planned to get the electrician to finish wiring the Chapel, study
and garage. The windows and doors were yet to be installed in iny study and paint applied, and many other odd Jobs that needed to be finished. To make a long story short, we didn't get very much done In the physical real*. The attendance at services increased steadily and the Interest manifest ed by those in attendance was gratifying indeed. We planned for an Easter program with most of the children participating. Our hearts were thrilled
on Easter when all attendance records were broken and new records establish* This picture was made several weeks ed. *nier were 36 present for the womlng service and 40 present that even ago in front of the Chapel after a ing. you don't realise i^t a godless people we have to work with, and how hard it is to get them to cone to services. Ihe people of Hawaii for the most part are a pleasure loving people, easting God asidenot willing to think about Hia. They had much rather spend their weekends camping along the beachesswimming, sunbathing or fishing. Many of them spend their weekends building their own hones, farming or working in yard or garden. Our hearts are burdened over the lost of this territory. On Easter S^Iz>day afternoon a group gathered at a little sandy cove on Makaha beach for baptlsaal service. We take our song books along and sing praises and pray unto the Lord. I take the time necessary to explain all about baption; and if there are those present who havi^ never been baptized we extend the invitation for then to accept Christ. Before we moved the benches into the Chapel we had to nove my desk and books out, so I took time out to put in the windows and doors and then paint my study. Everyone who visits my study says that if they were to inhabit this rociB that they would never get any studying accomplished because of being distracted by the beautiful view of the mountains as one looks out the picture window in fron of my desk. When X Iktic out and see these beauties of nature I become more and more aware of the reality of God, Again we extend to you our heart-felt thanks for all the prayers you have uttered In our behalf, and for all your gracious gifts. Dejur Friends in Christ, In Christ* precious name we send you greetings. It is truly wonderful to be a citisen of His Kingdom and have a part in His Plan for evangelizing the world. The Lord has again blessed our

efforts and three (3) more victories have been won for our Lord.
This Bakes a total of 19 baptisms so far this year.
Since we have had these additions we have launched out in an

attempt to educate these folkestablish them upon a fimi found ation in Christian Doctrine and wanner of living. We are thrilled over the

faithfulness of these converts and their eagerness to learm more about God, Christ, the Holy Spirit and Christian living. In addition to our newly baptized converts we also have had several mem bers of mainland churches to attend services here, lliere are rany famalies of service men over here in Hawaii. Since there is not enough military housing to accomodate all these families, they rentrooms and apartments all
over this islandwherever available. Quite a nutrber of these families live

on our side of the island and some of these folk come to services quite reg ularly. This of course swells our meager number to greater proportions and
at the same time gives us a boost in morale,

Tes, every month is a busy one for us and we enjoy every minute of it. We never manage to get done all that we plan, yet we have fun in planning, then working hard to complete our plans. It sure seems that a person gets

Last Lord*s Day we had two such families cone to the morning service for the first time. Two weeks ago we had a sailor boy spend the Lords Day with us. He is a member of the church in Winston Salem, W. 7a. He seemed to enjoy the services very much. We were happy to have him spend the day with us. Our local church-members are much like those else wherej some are very faithful in their attendance, others are not so regular. These people have to be educated in all phases of Christ ian living. Due to their former background of Catholicism and heathenism, it*s hard for them to grasp the principles of rl^teousness, and still hard er jret for them to completely break away from these former practices. With God*s help we are patiently teaching them the truth and the truth is slowly taking effect in their lives. We continually thank God for you dear Christian friends who pray for us and send gifts to carry on the Lord's work here. Please accept our heart felt thanks and appreciation for all these blessings TWA Sorry to saybut this is the best snapshot I have of the fellow-workers who participated in our DVBS and Evan gelistic meeting. The rest of my time was spent in visiting the churches in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. A wonderful week was enjoyed In Okla, City during the visirest Christian Cillege Convention and while visiting T-y ol' Alma *'ater. All in all, the trip was a successful one we believe. Our financial condition is much better now and we are gratefvil for this fact. We have two prospective preachers that are considering coming to the Valle work. We hope and pray that some decision will be made soon and a preacher on his way to Malle, While I was gone my dear wife Christine (and children) styed here at "akaha and kept the work going. No one knows except God and myself Just how much I appreciate her helpfulness and companionship. She truly loves the Lord and has proven it rany times by the sacrifices she has made. Christine had charge of the Sund^ morning services here at the Makaha Chapel, and Bro. Did you know that there were around 2500 pec^le registered at the Sixth National Wissionary Convention? les, this is a very significant fact and sign of the times. Our brethem are waking up to the fact that
NEW TESTAMENT MISSIONS are making progress. In 1951 there were only UO some odd Direct-Support Vission-

arles on the field.

Today there are 340 some odd (a growth of missionaries averaging 100 per year) and

there are hundreds of young men and women now in Bible College that will be going to the mission fields
in the near future. There were nearly 60 missionaries at the convention (those on furlough and recruits almost ready to go), and the rest of the registrants were Christians from all over our country attending the convention that they mlj^t meet their missionariesget better acquainted with thew and to leam first
