Gateway Standard: 1.0, 2.0, 5.0 Instructional Goal(s): The teacher will explain how the stock market is used to generate money for business and industry. The teacher will explain how specialization and team work affect efficiency. The teacher will stress the importance of resolving conflicts within groups. The teacher will give and allow constructive criticism within various groups. Performance Indicator(s): The student will analyze the role and functions of teams in the workplace. The student wil perform the functions of various roles within the team. The student will use strategies to reduce or resolve conflicts within the group. The student will give and receive constructive criticism. Anticipatory set: We are going to make money. We are going to form a company, sell stock, produce a product, sell the product, and earn a profit. . Activities: Sell stock Purchase supplies Identify the audience in writing instructions, use expository writing, to sequence the steps of instruction in the process Construct a wreath base made from plywood, 16D aluminum nails and 8D aluminum nails

Measure the circle using a compass with varying diameters Cut out circle with a jigsaw Select and clasify fruits and greenery Place fruit and greenery on wreath Sell wreaths Return profits to shareholders Guest speaker- Banker to share steps involved in starting a new business and how small businesses grow and become dependent upon the stock market. Suggested Modification(s): The differentiated instruction would be to first draw and cut out a circle on paper. They will use a compass. Formative check- Time table should be met for each phase of the project. Student Participation- Assign students to groups responsible for completing tasks along the time table. Activities to facilitate contexual learning- 1) sell stock 2) purchase supplies 3) construction 4) marketing 5)selling 6) computation and distribution of earnings Closure- Summarize the activities and groups involved and describe why you were successful if you made a profit or unsuccessful if you didn't.

Assessment: Use a four question test 1) Describe the roles and functions of terms in the work place. 2) How are conflicts within teams resolved or reduced? 3) How can constructive critisism be effective? 4) How are the above mentioned questions reflected in the outcome of the project? Teacher preparation: Make a supply list (A) (1) plywood (2) aluminum nails (3) greenery (4) fruit (B)Schedule a banker to come at the end of the project to discuss the steps of beginning a small business and growing the business through the stock market, talk about reasons small businesses fail or succeed.

Materials and Supplies needed: sheets of plywood, 16D aluminum nails, 8D aluminum nails, compasses, jigsaw, different fruits, greenery Lesson Evaluation: After teaching this lesson, ideas will be uncovered to add more disciplines such as Business, Marketing or History Departments to the program.
