CCW system

Hi all, Can anybody denote the acceptance criteria/ standard for carbon steel pipes flushing with DM water (like Closed cooling water system)? Even though the CCW piping is CS, Somewhere the CCW system flushing is being done with some chemicals such as oxygen scavenger and PH booster, but some places it is done with fresh DM water without any chemicals. Once the turbidity has reached, the running chemical will be added in all the system. Which one are the efficient/ cost saving/ time saving technique for flushing for larger system (400 m^3 system volume)? Does any standard referring the acceptance parameter/ values? Thanks in advance. 13 days ago

SagarUnfollow Follow Sagar Sagar Joshi The DMCCW system flushed with DM water without adding chemicals is not a good practice. At least a pH correction chemical needs to be added. This avoids the corrosion due to the acidic nature of the DM water. w.r.t the turbidity this flushing is done of course by bypassing the HE to clean the piping. Essentially this requires replacement of the DM water and hence loss of chemicals and the post treatment before disposal. I have also done the initial flush with clarified water to remove the turbidity and subsequently with pH corrected DM water. Replaced the DM water five times, when the turbidity was in control , drained the whole system restored the bypasses and filled it with pH and oxygen scavenger chemicals for normal operation.

N.K.Unfollow Follow N.K. N.K. Agarwal Hi Dhinesh, The acronym CCW in the case of a power plant is used to denote Condenser Cooling water system. But here obviously what you are referring to is the process closed cooling water system. If that be the case, generally, flushing by normal water till clean samples are obtained could suffice. However on the process side like in steam and feed water system, you are using the DM dosed water with suitable chemicals for oxygen control. Even on the closed cooling side also, if you are using DM water, it should be dosed with chemicals as pure DM water is corrosive. The chemical concentration needs to be checked from time to time and the turbidity checked for preventing fouling of cooling surfaces as well as water chemistry changes due to contact with the piping materials. 7 days ago Unlike
