So the new year is upon us,
and although 2007 was a great
year for music, 2008 is shaping
up to be even bigger. In this first
of two parts, I will countdown
the top 20 in what is sure to be
the biggest in music from new
albums, concerts and artists who
are sure to make an impact. Oh
and in case you didn’t notice,
Lupe Fiasco’s new album, “The
Cool,” came out over the break
and it’s quite remarkable. I’d
recommend going out and pick-
ing it up if you haven’t already.
20. Usher – It’s been a while
since the “You Remind Me”
singer has released an album.
His latest outing, “Confessions,”
was released almost four years
ago and has sold almost 10
million units to date. His new
album is still yet untitled but
has been confirmed by Usher
in an interview with the Atlanta
Journal-Constitution for a
March 2008 release. Producer
Jermaine Dupri told Billboard.
com that the Atlanta native
is very anxious to release his
album, which features T-Pain
and Ludacris.
19. The Game – At rapper Nas’
New Year’s Eve party, The
Game revealed after a perfor-
mance with Nas that his new
album, “LAX,” will be released
this June, that it would be pro-
duced by Dr. Dre and that it will
be his last. Considering The
Game is one of the better rap-
pers on the market, this is big
news. The news was later con-
firmed from his label/entourage

18. Anniversary Reissues
– Michael Jackson’s timeless
classic “Thriller” and N.W.A.’s
“Straight Outta Compton” are
receiving the anniversary reis-
sue treatment this year. This
year marks the 25th anniversary
of Jackson’s LP and the 20th
for Dre and his crew. Each are
remastered and feature bonus
tracks including covers and
remixes.
17. The 50th Grammy Awards
– Although it looks like they
will be hampered by the con-
tinued writer’s strike, the show
will go on Feb. 10. Scheduled
to perform are Beyonce, Foo
Fighters, Solange Knowles,
Rihanna and John Legend.
16. Disturbed – In a recent
interview with MTV, lead sing-
er David Draiman stated that
the bands fourth studio album,
“Indestructible,” would be tak-
ing on a “darker character than
their previous efforts.” Expect
a May release for the nu-metal
band’s latest, and check them
out on tour this summer on the
Rockstar Mayhem tour.
15. The Offspring – The
Offspring’s first new album
since 2003? I know you want to
hit that. I know you want to hit
that, hit that. Still yet untitled,
the album is scheduled for a
March 26 release on the Sony
Music Web site. The Offspring
hope to prolong their careers
well past the life expectancy of
their genre.
14. 50 Cent – It feels like
“Curtis” just came out, but it
looks like 50 wants to forget his
loss to Kanye sooner than later.
On the day “Curtis” dropped
into stores, 50 appeared on
“Jimmy Kimmel Live” and next
album, “Before I Self Destruct,”
was 80 percent done and would
most likely be released in March
2008. I’m not sure if March is
still the projected month, but
expect “Self Destruct” to be
released this year.
13. Snoop Dogg – Snoop Dogg
has always been a big name,
from his earlier days as Dre’s
right hand man to highly suc-
cessful work in recent years,
and 2008 looks to continue
his legacy. Premiering on E!
in December, “Snoop Dogg’s
Father Hood” will likely find
long lifetime as most reality
shows do and merit a second
season. “Sensual Seduction,”
Dogg’s first single off of his
new album, “Ego Trippin’.”
Watch out for this one as March
continues to shape up to be a
big release window for artists.
12. Panic at the Disco – Panic
at the Disco is looking to finally
escape the “Hey, it’s that band
that sounds like Fall Out Boy …
but it’s not” mold. First on their
agenda? Dropping that pesky,
