During the following few minutes I will present to you the building I have designed for the Diploma

Project. I will begin by doing a general presentation of the structure, then I will talk about the modeling of the building. I will continue by presenting the structural responses obtained, and finally I will talk about the design of the main structural elements. The building is located in Bucharest, in district 6, its purpose is to be a residential apartment building. It consists in a basement, a ground floor and 10 stories the height of the basement and the current stories is 2.8m, while that of the ground floor is 3.4m. On the longitudinal direction it is divided into 7 bays. 2 of 3.3m and 5 of 5.4m and in the transversal direction into two spans, two of 6.2m and one of 2.25m. There are two balconies on each side, on the longitudinal direction of 10.8m*1.5m. The last two stories are retracted by a span on each side, the ninth with 3m and the 10th with 5.4m. It has a mat foundation of 1m thick, and at the basement it has reinforced concrete walls on the whole perimeter in order to assure a box-like behavior. The superstructure has four perimetral walls on each direction of 30cm thick. They are placed symmetrical in order to avoid torsion in the first two modes of vibration. The beams are 55*30 and 50*30, and the columns 70*50. The model was done using ETABS 9.4. The period of vibration of the first mode is 0.77 and then it starts to decrease. In the first two modes represent a translation on X and then on Y. Only in the third mode torsion appears. The participation factor in the first 10 modes is 95% on X and 96% on Y. The structure was designed in accordance to the P100 code and CR-2. For the coupled structural walls I have done a redistribution of 30% of bending moments and shear force in order to consider the cracks in the tensed wall that decrease its stiffness. For the axial force I took into account the contribution of the shear force associated to the capable bending moments of the coupled beam. The beams are designed to have a plastic behavior in order to allow the development of plastic hinges at the ends of the beam, and the dissipation of energy, by having an adequate steel percentage. In order to avoid brittle failure, which is undesired, the shear reinforcement was designed to the shear force associated to the bending moment at the ends of the beam. The slab was designed with the coefficient method according to the stas 10107. The columns were designed accordingly to the strong columns-weak beams design philosophy by designing them to the capacity of the beams in order to make sure that they will fail only after the failure of the beams. Also, second order effects were taken into account by assuming that the columns are loaded by the axial load with an excentricity. For the mat foundation I have done a p conventional check.
