Name: _________________________________________________________________ The exam is open book and partial credit will be given so show your work! Good luck. Problem 1 (20 points) Design a rectangular combined footing to support the two-column footing. The center of the exterior column is 1 ft. away from the property line and 14 ft. from the center of the interior column. The exterior column is square with a 18-in. sides, is reinforced with #8 bars, and carries an axial dead load of 160 k and a live load of 140 k. The interior column is square with 20-in sides, is reinforced with #9 bars, and carries an axial dead load of 240 k and a live load of 150 k. The bottom of the footing is 5 ft. below final grade. Use fc =4 ksi, fy =50 ksi, and an allowable soil pressure of 5 ksf.

Problem 2 (20 points) Create the interaction diagrams for a tied 16-in. by 24-in. column with 8# 10 bars. Determine locations of the bars and their spacing and type of stirrups and spacing between stirrups in the column. You will need the information to create the diagrams. Use at least 15 points in each of the diagrams, you may use a spreadsheet to generate the points. Use fc = 4 ksi and fy = 60 ksi.

Problem 3 (40 points) The dimensions of the beam are given as b = 14-in., h = 24-in., and ln = 25 ft. The beam at wall has two rows of reinforcement d = 20.5-in. Compression steel is needed, it is at d= 2.5-in. The beam at center will have two rows of reinforcement d = 20.5-in. The beam is loaded with DL = 5.4 k/ft (including self-weight) and LL = 3.3 k/ft. Use fc = 5 ksi and fy = 60 ksi. Use Figure A-1 from your book to get the moments. 1. Design the beam. 2. Design the shear reinforcements for the beam. 3. Look at the development lengths of the bars and determine whether or not you can reduce the number of bars. Use figure A-1 to look at cutoffs. 4. Determine the instantaneous and long-time deflection, assume that 10% of the live loads are sustained and dead loads include the self-weight of the beam and a time limit of 5 years.

Problem 4 (20 points) Design the interior panel for a 24-ft. x 30-ft. slab supported by beams on all four sides. All panels are supported by 20-in. by 20-in. columns, 12 ft. The slab carries a uniform load of 80-psf live load and service dead load that consists of 36 psf of floor finish in addition to the slab self-weight. Use fc = 4 ksi and fy = 60 ksi. The depth of the beam is 26-in. and assume x = y = 26 in. hf in. 1. Determine the slab thickness, h. 2. Design the loading for the two-slab and the beams. 3. Design the reinforcement for the slabs only.
