San Bernardino Votes!

San Bernardino Votes! is a scholarship program sponsored by the San Bernardino City Clerks Office, and supported by various civic organizations and individuals interested in greater voter participation in San Bernardino. Using privately raised funds, the program will provide up to two $1,000 scholarships to local students who produce video or print material targeting youth and first-time voters. The goal is for students to tell their peers about the importance of registering and voting, or to explain what voting means to them personally. Submissions must be non-partisan and must not contain profanity or racist or sexist language. Submissions are due by 6 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013. Please submit projects to: Gigi Hanna, City Clerk, 300 N. D Street, San Bernardino, CA 92418. Winners will be notified by mail, by Friday, September 13, 2013.

Criteria Contestant must be a resident of San Bernardino, aged 16-24, and enrolled in a city high school, college or university. Proof of residency and enrollment will be required before any scholarship is awarded.

If over age 18, please submit proof that you are a registered voter (registration need not be in San Bernardino County).

Each submission must contain the name of the creator of the submission, as well as permission by those featured in the video/poster to use their likeness.

More than one submission per person is allowed, but will require separate entry packets for each submission.

Submissions become the property of the San Bernardino City Clerk, with rights of use until November 2015, after which the rights will revert to the creator.

Submissions may be in form of an 8.5 x 11 PDF print of at least 300 dpi or a video suitable for online distribution, no longer than 3 minutes.

Submission may be in English or Spanish language.

Finalists will be asked to meet with the selection panel of 5-7 professionals with experience in government, marketing, design or other related field to discuss their work.

The committee will award two scholarships for $1,000 -- one to a high school student, and one to a college student. If it is determined that there are insufficient submissions for one of the categories, there will be no scholarship awarded for that group.

Determination will be made by the scholarship selection committee and all decisions of the committee are final.
