Tom Neupane Brief self-assessment Kelly Turnbeaugh (EN 1010-028) I steel remember the first day of this class,

a class full of new students sitting all around the class waiting to listen a word from you, instructor Kelly Turnbeaugh. As you started explaining about the class structure and the syllabus for this semester, I was totally lost. All the assignments and midterm portfolio, final portfolio, notebook assignments and so on made me to think once more that I am taking this class this semester or dropping out. Later, when I get home, I talked to my wife about dropping class but she encourage me to try not to lose hope. Since then, I keep me working hard and pushing forward to the door of success. At the very beginning of every assignments, I was lost and confused about the assignments and its requirements. So, I always ask questions about the next assignment to other friends and sometime to you too. There are not many writing projects but definitely a lot of learning and practicing which is really good to the new learners like me. I always keep forward myself and keep engaged. I always want to be an engaged learner and ready to lean whatever the instructor teach us in the class. I think it is a good idea to have few drafts and peer review of our essays before we write the fine essay. In my view, it is always a good idea to get some feedback from the audience and to improve from the feedback. As I work through my midterm- portfolio, I encountered lot of difficulties and misunderstanding about the portfolio. For my Reflection Essay, I wrote about my own experiences of learning English in U.S. The topic of this essays was, Dont run away from the problems instead, try to face it. I feel proud of myself when I got a chance to explore myself and had a chance to share my story with others. For my Rhetorical Analysis Essay, I choose to write about the junk food in our markets and how we are using it. And for the Visual Analysis Essay, I choose to write about the child labor in India. How the kids are struggling to live in India.

For final portfolio, I did research about the Bhutanese refugees problems in the camps in Nepal for over 21 years. Being myself a part of those refugees, I had experience a lot of problems during my life in the camp. When I finally got a chance to escape from the refugee camp and move to the United States, I found a lot of changes in quality life styles in the U.S. rather than in refugee camp. But, there are steel more refugees in the camp willing to return back to the country, Bhutan, instead of resettling in third country. I also added one picture about Bhutanese refugee protesting peacefully at World Refugee Day. This is my first experiences of writing Annotated Bibliography and I love it. It is very important for me to learn how to research with proper citation. It is always important to give a credit to the original author of the article. Plagiarism is not a good thing to adapt being a college student. In this kind of project, it is very important to have evaluation and reflection along with the summary of the cited article. I leaned proper citation is the most important part of this annotated bibliography. Drafting also help me to prepare for the final annotated bibliography project. I tried to find the right topic so that I can use it on issue exploration essay. For the final Issue Exploration Essay, I wrote about the Bhutanese refugee problems. My thesis statement is, Bhutan should take back its citizens, respecting their rights to return to their

homes in southern Bhutan. I work so hard to make my topic problematic and reasonable. First, I
stated the four most important issues about the Bhutanese refugees in the camp in Nepal. Then, I explain each of them in separate paragraph. After I finished explaining all four issues, then I added some other parties and agencies that are responsible for this issues. Finally, I added some possible solutions to the issues but my primary focus is to convince Bhutan government to take his citizen back to their county and return their property without any obligation. At the end, I really want to thank you for sharing your knowledge with us and giving me a chance to learn something new. I really enjoy this class.
