Statement of Objectives after Graduation

Through my work on various projects at graduate level, I have gained practical experience and abilities that cannot be learned in the classroom, such as the ability to carry out plans, supervise, and oversee the actual construction process. The contrast between my academic training and my work experience helped led me to a new understanding of engineering design in practice. I learned that many of the theories and ideas that I learned in the university were somewhat impractical. Successful design requires not only good ideas, but also the practicality that allows the design to be ultimately carried out. If a design can be implemented, then this is the mark of a good design, but it is important to have experience with the practical aspects of design in order to understand which designs are effective and which are simply impractical. My work thus far has been rewarding and inspiring, yet it has also allowed me to reflect upon my shortcomings and the areas in which I need to receive additional training. Consequently, I am highly motivated to enter your masters program and study diligently. Now that I have a firm understanding of both the theoretical and practical aspects of engineering design, I feel that I am prepared to begin the next step of my professional development, which is the pursuit of a masters degree in Mechanical engineering. I feel that it is important to build upon my previous training and education in a stimulating atmosphere full of diverse viewpoints and ideas. Your masters program is ideal for meeting my educational goals. The diverse and international student body, combined with modern facilities and esteemed professors, can provide me with a cutting-edge education that will prepare me for any challenges I may face in the future. I believe that the broad overview gained during graduate studies can be consummated only by the in-depth study that a Graduate study will entail. Hence after pursuing my graduate studies in specialized fields of mechanical engineering in a committed manner, I would give myself frontline exposure to the technological advances made in this field and allow me to contribute to its immense development. Thus, my resolute intention for future is to become a research professional at an academic or commercial, research-oriented organization. In fact I think it is the art of a successful and apt researcher to apply theoretical materials properly in designing and implementing practical systems. Obviously, becoming skillful in both of these areas simultaneously is far from being called an easy job and in addition to a huge amount of effort and devotion, requires the supervision of experienced advisors and also considerable facilities Therefore, Ph.D. in mechanical engineering ideally matches with my career requirement. The faculty research at Mechanical Engineering in France is really impressive. One of the reasons I desire a graduate degree is the chance for close contact with a very distinguished faculty and the opportunity to do research at the forefront of a field. I believe that I possess the basic aptitude, discipline and perseverance to sustain the motivation and drive needed for a research career. I have my experience in working most challengeable

environment. Hence my ultimate goal is to acquire an in-depth knowledge in manufacturing engineering area through higher studies. After completing my Ph.D. in mechanical engineering I would like to obtain some research work experience in the France to get exposed to the work culture, the difference in the technology involved with respect to India , and professional work environment prevalent there. Also the existing energy crisis in India due to deficient generation capability and poor transmission infrastructure - to distribute adequate power - has also contributed to my decision of pursuing a research. A glance at the scheme of studies offered at various colleges in France reveal a fine blend of such courses that would enable me to contribute to the energy stability in India on my return. Having done that, after few decades of work in France, I would like to return to India and implement what I had learnt in France. I envisage the future as setting up my own consulting firm in India. I would also like to contribute my share to my country by taking up a teaching position, possibly a part time one at Velammal engineering college.

Everything connects to everything else. I truly feel that my inspirations and learning experiences have been interconnected, so as to bring me to the place I am now.

Sincerely, Murali Krishnan. P
