[03:50] NICK: I think [boarding schools and liberal arts colleges] are both schools that care a great deal about community, getting to know one another, and participating in small classrooms. Its just a really unique environment to haveteachersteachingtoaclassroomoftentotwelvestudentsandforcing you to think critically, orally, and engaging with their classmates every day. Theres no showing up to class having not done the reading without being foundout. [06:41] LYNDA: It definitely seems like boarding school provides traditionsquirky traditionsthatpublicschoolstudentsmissouton. NICK: We didnt have prom, which was certainly unique, but we had other things that definitely stick with you. And going back for reunions five years afterwards is pretty fun because people remain pretty close and are doing similarthingslaterinlife, sothatsniceaswell. [07:45] NICK: [Boarding schools] really take the time to interview and read each application really carefully. I think they definitely epitomize the idea that applicants need to know they are more than test scores. Certainly, a studentgoingtomyschool,[NorthfieldMountHerman]needstoknowthat theyre going have to participate inwork jobs every week. And I think there are similar traditions at all these other schools, just as there are at colleges and universities, so its really important to understand the school that youreapplyingto. [10:07] NICK:Butcertainly,collegesanduniversitiesintheU.S.seeboardingschool applicants as having really strong foundations. Theyre not just academic foundations, but they go through academics, or athletics extracurricular and leadership opportunities.
