AIM Forums _ Muslims in the West _ I need some help

salam
i just wanted to know if we as muslims have any responsibilities of spreading
islam in the west.
What i mean is that if we live in a non-islamic nation do we have to spread islam
or preach it.
Or is the important thing just being good mannered , so we attract people to
islam.
Also are there any hadiths for people living among non-muslims or in a non islamic
state, or any hadiths about how we treat and act infront of non-muslims.

I don't think anyone likes those annoying door to door salespeople who no matter
how many times we tell them no, they just won't leave. Muslims shouldn't become
like that, ( some sunnis are like that here in the US already) . I think muslims
should first focus on being good examples for their religion, by doing that alone
people will respect Islam more. Of course attempts should made to EXPLAIN Islam,
the image of it soo messed up right now. Still, we shouldn't turn into some
Jehovah's witness copycats and try to force Islam down people throats.

Here is what the last prophet was told by Allah. Because it applied to the
prophet, it applies to us too as his followers:
Surat Yunus (Jonah) X:2
Warn mankind that disobedient conduct can lead to their extinction by the fire
from Allah; and give good news to those who believe in the Oneness of Allah and in
his prophet Muhammad that they shall have with their Lord the rewards of their
good deeds.

Here's another scripture which answers "yes" to your question. See what Allah said
to Moses and his brother:
Surah 10, Jonah
10:89:
Allah said: "Verily, the invocation of you both is accepted. So you both keep to
the Straight Way (in other words, keep on doing good deeds and preaching Allah's
Message with patience), and follow not the path of those who know not the truth
(in other words those who do not believe in the Oneness of Allah, and also who
also do not believe in Allah's reward: Paradise.

Here is another scripture answering your question in the affirmative as to whether

we are to preach submission to Allah.
Surah Yusuf
12:108
Say to them, O Muhammad: "This is my way; I invite unto Allah, his Oneness and his
Islamic Monotheism."

Also in the third scripture after that, 12:111, it confirms that the Torah and the
Gospel of Jesus are also from Allah and you know what these scriptures require -
preaching about the Kingdom of God and the paradise therein and about he upcoming
extinction of those found to be the mushrikun.

The footnote to Surah 2, Al-Baqarah, scripture number 42 tells about some of the
qualities attributed to Muhammad and what Allah told him to do:
O Prophet! We have sent you as a witness for Allah's True Religion, and a giver of
glad tidings to the faithful believers and a warner to the disbelievers and a
guardian to the illiterates. You are My slave and My Messenger and I have named
you Al-Mutawakkil (one who depends on Allah). You are neither discourteous, harsh
nor a noise-maker in the markets, and you do not do evil to those who do evil to
you, but you deal with them with forgiveness and kindness.

There are lots of important issues covered in the Koran including the one you
mention plus direction as to whether or not there should be forced conversion
(109:6, 11:28), and when and whether we are required to fight (2:246, 60:8), and
whether the Torah and Gospel of Jesus are from God (5:46, 5:15 - 16), and about
all the things Allah has done for us (67:23, 67:15, 67:30, and 87:3) and there is
a compact list of Allah's requirements and prohibitions at 16:90, and lots of
other good stuff too, including 87:9 - 12 concerning giving reminders to people.

salam.gif I think the most important responsibility is not inviting or persuading

people to follow our beliefs but more importantly to protect those beliefs. It's
our job to defend Islam and broaden any narrow minded image of our faith. It's not
always an easy task and that's why I think we should take every opportunity we
have to respectfully stand up for the truth, no matter where we are. The first way
can go about doing so would be to represent Islam in all its beauty by being good
Muslims. People will question on their own and will want to know more about our
way of life.
