Unite EC elections: Vote Ian Bradley for the London & Eastern Territorial seat

Vote Ian Bradley: A Voice For Resistance

am asking for your vote for the London & Eastern Territorial seat for Unites Executive Council. Life for working class people in Tory Britain gets worse every day. In recent days the scandal of zero hours contracts has hit the front pages. It has exposed how up to 1 million people are facing Victorian style conditions without guaranteed work, sick pay or holidays. Employers boast about flexibility but its all about profit for them and insecurity for us. An aggressive campaign by unions like Unite to pressurise employers using these disgraceful contracts, and crucially a drive to recruit the workers into unions, could make a massive difference and stop the rot before it spreads further.

partys affairs. Why? Because we wanted more working class MPs in parliament. Now Miliband is calling for a special Labour conference in March to distance Labour further from the unions. Our general secretary has headed up the campaign to reclaim Labour, but that strategy is in tatters. Theres no way that our members contributions should go to funding any MP or councillor who wont pledge to back our unions policies.

Elections run from 29 July to 26 August

Civil disobedience

As a socialist I believe that workers have the power to stop the growing wave of attacks from the employers and the government. Its great that, alongside the GMB and Unison, Unite have called a mass protest at the Tory Party Conference in Manchester on 29 September against austerity and in defence of our NHS. Its good that Len McCluskey has backed calls for a general strike and called for civil disobedience against the Tory attacks.
I spoke to the crowds at the May Day Rally in Trafalagar Square last year.

Fighting spirit

Wage freezes, job losses and attacks on our pensions in both the public and private sector mean families are suffering increasing hardship. Theres even the threat of eviction through the bedroom tax and the benefit cap. I work in construction. I was elected to the London electricians rank and file committee and helped build a national network of activists to fight deskilling.

ruthless multinational construction firms. This was so successful that Unites last national policy conference passed a motion supporting the way we organised. As Britains biggest union, Unite has to be at the centre of the resistance to the Tories and the bosses. Thats even more important when its becoming clear we cant rely on Labour to save us.

Mass campaign

We mounted a mass campaign which defeated 35 percent pay cuts. We fought using official protests and ballots, backed by unofficial strikes and occupations. And we defeated

Dont wait for Labour

Instead of heading up the opposition to the government, Ed Miliband and Labour have pledged to stick to Tory spending plans and have attacked our union for interference in the

But too often there has been a gap between what Len has said and the action thats been delivered on the ground to save members jobs, win better pay and take on the government and the employers. Thats why in the recent Unite general secretary election almost 80,000 people voted for rank and file candidate Jerry Hicks. If elected I want to bring the fighting spirit of the recent electricians dispute onto the national executive. I ask you to vote for me as part of building a genuine network of solidarity across Unite. I am happy to address branch meetings and reps committees. Please contact me for more information.
