partys affairs. Why? Because we wanted more working class MPs in parliament. Now Miliband is calling for a special Labour conference in March to distance Labour further from the unions. Our general secretary has headed up the campaign to reclaim Labour, but that strategy is in tatters. Theres no way that our members contributions should go to funding any MP or councillor who wont pledge to back our unions policies.
Civil disobedience
As a socialist I believe that workers have the power to stop the growing wave of attacks from the employers and the government. Its great that, alongside the GMB and Unison, Unite have called a mass protest at the Tory Party Conference in Manchester on 29 September against austerity and in defence of our NHS. But too often there has been a gap between what Len has said and the action thats been delivered on the ground to save members jobs, win better pay and take on the government and the employers. Thats why in the recent Unite general secretary election almost 80,000 people voted for rank and file candidate Jerry Hicks. If elected I want to bring the fighting spirit of the recent electricians dispute onto the national executive. I ask you to vote for me as part of building a genuine network of solidarity across Unite. I am happy to address branch meetings and reps committees. Please contact me for more information.
