Here ye! Here ye! Miss Melissa Werning has been named the Knights of Columbus Teacher of the Year for St. Elizabeth School! Miss Werning, is in her twenty-sixth year of teaching with the Archdiocese of Washington, with seven of those years at St. Elizabeth. Miss Werning is an outstanding educator who is truly committed to the Teachings of the Church and the message brought to us through the Gospel. If you see Miss Werning inside or outside of school, please be sure to wish her a heartfelt word of congratulations! ~Mr. Spadoni

GRANDPARENTS/SPECIAL PERSONS DAY WAS A WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR CHILDREN AND OUR FAMILIES
Thank you to Lynette Grenier (Sydney, grade 5 and Hailey, kindergarten) and her committee for organizing this years Grandparents/Special Persons Day! They were close to 400 guests visiting the classrooms and touring the school. A word of appreciation goes to Kristin Tulip (Hannah, grade 2, and Brett, kindergarten) and Liz Mills (Madison, kindergarten) for providing so much assistance preparing for this day! We look forward to celebrating Grandparents/Special Persons Day next year!

ST. ELIZABETH SCHOOL STUDENTS RECEIVE THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION


The students of St. Elizabeth parish received the sacrament of Confirmation last Friday, March 27th. Bishop Francisco Gonzalez, S.F., auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Washington conferred the sacrament. Let us all pray for these young men and women who have received this extraordinary gift of the Holy Spirit.

HIP! HIP! HOORAY! ST. ELIZABETH SCHOOL BAND


The St. Elizabeth School Advanced Band scored an EXCELLENT at the 47th Annual Archdiocesan Music Program Festival held on March 29th, at St. Johns College High School in Washington, DC. Hats off to our Band who earned a trophy for their performance!

CONGRATULATIONS, CASSIDY BURKE


Seventh grader, Cassidy Burke, won the Grand Prize for her essay in the Right to Life of Montgomery County contest. The awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, April 4th, 1:00 p.m., at the Aspen Hill Library. What an honor it is for St. Elizabeth School to have the first place winner! Cassidy has made us very proud! Hats off, Pal!

WITHDRAWAL
March 18 , was the last day to withdraw your child from St. Elizabeth School for the 2009 2010 school year without having to pay the first quarter tuition for that school year.

8th GRADE FINAL EXAM EXEMPTIONS
8th grade students will be exempt from final exams in any or all subjects in which they have earned an A average (93% or higher) for the first three quarters and in the fourth quarter through May 15th. The midterm grade must also have been an A. Students who are exempt from a final exam who show a change in attitude or behavior in a particular subject area during the last two weeks of school may be required to take the final exam in that particular class.

JUMP ROPE FOR THE HEART ENVELOPES DUE


Parents of students participating in Jump Rope for the Heart, envelopes are due into Mrs. Bausch by Wednesday, April 8th. THANK YOU to all those who contributed to this worthwhile cause, The American Heart Association!

MAKE SURE TO RECORD YOUR VOLUNTEER HOURS!


Please be sure that you have recorded your volunteer hours in the Volunteer Log which is housed at the front desk with Mrs. Tvelia. This is the only form of communication that is accepted when calculating volunteer hours. The last day to record your volunteer hours is Thursday, May 21st, Field Day!

LATE PICK-UP FEE


Because we have many families paying for After Care for their children, the policy of a late pick-up fee has been established since the onset of the school year. Families who come to pick-up their children after 3:35 p.m. will be assessed at late fee of $10.00 per child and $1.00 per child every minute thereafter. In fairness to those paying for After Care, this policy will be strictly enforced. Thank you for your attention to this serious matter.

MONTGOMERY COLLEGE ANNOUNCES SATURDAY DISCOVERIES


Saturday Discoveries is for gifted and talented students in grades 4 and 5. It is a special one-day enrichment program at Montgomery College, Germantown Campus, on Saturday, May 9th, 8:30 a.m. 2:50 p.m. Visit www.montgomerycollege.edu/youth for more information. Since programs are quickly filling, parents and guardians will need to register as soon as possible. The deadline for receiving registrations is Monday, May 4th.

DISTRIBUTION OF REPORT CARDS


Report cards will be sent home with the children today, April 3rd. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your childs teacher. The fourth quarter began on Monday, March 23rd.

What a fantastic SPIRIT WEEK 2009 it has been thanks to the dedication and hard work of Miss Bridget Hedges! Working with our Student Council, Miss Hedges was able to create a week of FUN for our children, teachers, parents and guardians! APRIL IS NATIONAL CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH


As part of the archdiocese's ongoing efforts to promote the well being and safety of children and youth they have developed "Keeping Kids Safe--A Parent's Guide". See today's Thursday folder for the guide which includes fact sheets on internet safety and cyberbullying.

CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL FAIRS!


Information about the Catholic High School Fairs can be found on todays Thursday folder. It is extremely important for parents and guardians with 7th graders to attend the Fair in Montgomery County. Parents and guardians of 6th grade students are strongly encouraged to attend.

PROMETHEAN BOARDS HAVE ARRIVED!


St. Elizabeth School is pleased to announce our first two Promethean Activclassrooms -- our technology center and middle school science lab! The Promethean Activclassroom is an integrated solution that combines a Promethean ActivBoard (an interactive whiteboard, projector, and sound system), ActiVote (an integrated

student response system), and ActivSlate (a tool that allows the teacher to control the board from anywhere in the room) with learning software that allows teachers to design lessons that reach each child's unique learning needs and abilities. The Activclassroom gives teacher's the opportunity to engage their students with interactive lessons, integrate instructional technology into their curriculum, and facilitate their assessment of student learning via the learner response system. Mrs. Orlandi and Mr. Robertson are excited to share this technology with their students and our school community!

SCHOOL MASS
Our next school Mass will be celebrated during Holy Week on Tuesday, April 7th, at 9:30 a.m. All parents, family members, and friends are always welcome to attend our school Masses.

PRAYER BASKET
Please feel free to add your intentions to our prayer basket located in the front lobby in front of the statue of St. Joseph. These petitions are remembered every day during our morning prayers. There is paper available at Mrs. Tvelias desk for your convenience or you may simply send them into school with your child. Let us remember the intentions in our basket when we bring our prayers to the Father.

SPRING CONCERTS!
On Monday, April 27th, our kindergarten through fourth grade students will serenade the audience with their beautiful voices in the Church. On Tuesday, April 28th, the fifth through eighth grade students will do the same! These concerts begin at 7:00 p.m. Please be sure that your child/ren is/are in attendance. Children must arrive to school by 6:30 p.m. For those of you old enough to remember those good old oldies from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, you are in for a triple treat!

USED CELL PHONES


Do you have an old or unused cell phone that you would like to donate to St. Elizabeth School? If so, please have your child drop it off at the front desk with Mrs. Tvelia. Like the ink cartridges, St. Elizabeth School gets money for every cell phone we send. The company even pays for the postage! Spread the word!

BLUE MASH SUMMER GOLF CAMP


Blue Mash will be offering one-week golf camps this summer from July 6th August 21st. Check out their information on their website for more information, at http://www.bluemash.com/pages/instruction.php. If you are interested, write ST. ELIZABETH in the How Did You Hear about Us section on the registration form, and Blue Mash will donate $50.00 to our school in your childs name! Fore!

NAIL POLISH IS NOT ALLOWED


Many girls have been spoken to regarding the wearing of nail polish. Nail polish is not permitted at school, both on regular dress days as well as Tag Days. Girls now being sent to the nurses office to remove nail polish will be assessed a $1.00 fee. This should help to deter our young ladies when making the decision to wear nail polish to school. Thank you, parents, for your support!

EMPTY INK CARTRIDGES: Our school receives money for each empty ink cartridge that is collected! Please let those in your family, neighborhood, and workplace know about our collection! BOX TOPS: Every Box Top collected earns 10 cents for St. Es. There is a bin in the lobby where students can place their Box Tops! Ikona Photography: This school year, St. Elizabeth School families receive $100 off the session fee and Ikona Photography will donate 10% of the revenue from the session to St. Elizabeth School. In order for you to get the discounted fee and for the School to get the donation, you need to identify yourself as a St. Elizabeth School family at the time of booking. This is our second year as a part of the Harris Teeters Together in Education Program to help raise funds for our school. Its easy and its FREE. Simply give the cashier our code, 6298, and your VIC card (Harris Teeter savings card) when you check out and your card will be linked for the entire school year. Thats it!
