Introducing an Equipper Who is Not a Slacker

The brilliant C.S. Lewis wrote: God is no fonder of intellectual slackers than of any other slackers. If you are thinking of becoming a Christian, I warn you that you are embarking on something which is going to take the whole of you, brains and allChristianity is an education itself. While Janet and I are away for some refreshing vacation time in Colorado Springs, I am thrilled to introduce a personal friend who is certainly Dr. Hayes Wicker no slacker but a great equipper of the saints. Dr. Jonathan Burnham fulfills Lewis charge as much as any pastor whom Senior Pastor I have known. He and his wife, Faith, reside in Naples, attend our church, and are the proud parents of Taylor and David. David played golf at our Academy and now follows his dad to Wheaton College, where Jonathan was a two-time All-American in tennis. After receiving his B.A. at Wheaton, Jonathan received his Masters and Doctoral degrees at the famed University of Oxford in England. He was the founding pastor of Hope Church near Cincinnati, a large, influential ministry in that area. After that, he was Senior Pastor of Boca Raton Community Church on Floridas east coast. He held the Pledger Family Chair of Applied Theology at Palm Beach Atlantic University for a year. His dad, renowned Bible teacher David Burnham, had pastored that church earlier when it was known as Bible Town. Dr. Burnham has been a great encourager to me and is full-time President of Burnham Ministries International, which equips pastors through unique conferences and writings around the world in difficult places such as Vietnam, China, Cambodia, Mexico, Egypt, India, Nepal, and the Ukraine. They train over 2,000 international pastors a year. Jonathan has a winsome personality, great appreciation for our church, and excellent communication ability. He ministers with the wisdom given to him (1 Corinthians 2:13) which is beyond just knowledge. He has a unique blend of pastoring, preaching, educating, and evangelizing, seeking to unleash the church and its leaders to reach the world. Receive Jonathans preaching as he and I both urge you to continue in the grace of Godas you assemble to hear the Word of God (Acts 13:43, 44). Janet and I love you, miss you, and will be praying for Gods blessing on our dear church this week.

RefresHer Womens Fall Bible Study

Know Gods unchanging love in a new way with this study from gifted communicator Lisa Harper.
Malachi: A Love That Never Lets Go is a Bible study on the book of Malachi, and focuses on Gods mercy. On our worst day, God doesnt walk away from us, and His love for us is not determined by our performance. No matter how many times we mess up, God loves (and never leaves) broken people. Through this study, you will gain a fresh perspective on the Book of Malachi. It is more than a book in the Bible about tithing. Lisa brings the Scripture to life through dynamic storytelling. So join us as we journey through Scripture and discover Gods unchanging love in a new and transforming way.
