A SESSION ON SUPPLY CHAIN AND LOGISTICS DATE: 04/1/2013

Mr.Ramani was here to conduct a power talk on the Supply chain and Logistics management, the key factor for all the production based industries. Mr.Ramani took over this session by knowing the diversified thoughts of GSB students regarding Supply chain and logistics. He made the students aware that present trend is focusing on minute specializations in Logistics and supply chain. The complete structure of Supply Chain was handled in such a manner that it created a passion for the students to take over the SC and Logistics as their core. Many Industries providing High profiled jobs in this field. If the students crack it properly their desirable destination is not longer, said Mr.Ramani. A series of Knowledge inculcated in the GSB students through this Session made them to clarify their queries for which Mr.Ramani is always answerable. As Story has more impact than theory, He narrated a story through which it is understood that always run to be ahead of others in every situations. Inculcation with Inducement made the students of this session to drive their force.

PLACEMENT PROGRAM AT GNANAM SCHOOL OF BUSINESS Date: 07/01/2013

A placement program was conducted by Cogzidel technologies Private Limited a leading website development company in India. For their consultancy services they require unparalleled expertise for their company and they came for an on campus recruitment for the final year of students of Gnanam School of business. An aptitude test, group discussion followed by a personal interview was carried on. Around 30 students attended this placement and the company was impressed by their technical skills that the students of gsb possess. Most of the students were participating in all the rounds. It was a change of destiny for few students to successfully get placed with this prestigious company. Gnanam School of business is also aiming to conduct many off campus and on campus recruitments in the coming days.

PONGAL CELEBRATION

The Festival of Harvest Pongal, the grand celebration of Tamilnadu known for its ethnicity in affiliation with agriculture and farmers was celebrated at GNANAM SCHOOL OF BUSINESS on 12th Jan, 2013 at 4.00 pm. In GSB all the festivals are celebrated with great joy and happiness, in the same manner Pongal was also celebrated unanimously by the faculty and students from various cultural backgrounds. The students of GNANAM SCHOOL OF BUSINESS conducted the programme, and the chief guest for the day was Mr.S.P.S. Arul Doss, the CEO of GNANAM SCHOOL OF BUSINESS. The highlight of the day came when the house keeping staff, Kitchen Staff, Lawn workers and Security personnel were presented with cloths. This was presented by the CEO and everyone felt happy in giving. The festival was joyfully celebrated by the family of GSB.

STUDENT DEVELOPMWNT PROGRAM

Gnanam School of Business was indeed delighted to have students from across the southern part of India for the student development program conducted by them. The program aimed at imparting the techniques on attending group discussions and interviews and the admission process for the next batch of 2013-2015 was also kick started on this day. Many students from Tamilnadu as well as Kerala came to attend this program and also seeking to get admission in Gnanam School of Business. Students were first given a mock group discussion and interview and then they were tested on their skills of communication, leadership and confidence level. CAMPUS INTERVIEW FROM MAVERICS SYSTEM LIMITED

An on campus interview was conducted in Gnanam School of Business on 25 th January, 2013.MavericSystem Limited, an IT consultancy company from Chennai came on campus to hire the students for the position of Delivery Management Trainee. Maverics system is an independent assurance company possessing great reputation in areas of banking and insurance. It is the third largest testing company having its branches in Middle East North Africa (MENA), UK and Asia Pacific (APAC). Two key individuals Mr. Kannan Sedhuraman, the Chief consultant and Ms.Savitha Mascarenhis, the Senior HR Manager were on campus to recruit the most suitable candidate for the position of Delivery ManagementTrainee at Maverics Systems Ltd. Onreaching the campus they had conducted an interactive session with the final year students of Gnanam School of Business, who were just few minutes away from attending the recruitment process. Therecruitment consisted of a personal interview session also, where in the candidates were interviewed by testing their conceptual knowledge on the areas of finance, marketing and technical proficiency. The students of Gnanam school of business are aware of the tough competition in the outside world and this institution has successfully developed their skills and has made them knowledgeable in their areas to an extent were they are able to excel in the current competitive world. The students have given their best and are eagerly waiting for the results to be declared.The institute is also arranging more off as well as on campus interview in the upcoming days.

BIZ LAUREATE- 2013 Business Wisdom for the Future

The National level mega inter collegiate management meet BIZ LAUREATE 2013 conducted by Gnanam School of Business for two days was inaugurated today. The event brought together students from all around India. BizLaureate is a prestigious event that provides arena for students from various institutions in India to prove their managerial capabilities. The event would be enriched by 400 to 500 M.B.A students killing instinct. The battle would be fought in many events is which the critical qualities are in limelight. The platform would set fire on your heart-a burning desire that would take you to zenith in the corporate world. The programme would provide a corporate climate where harmony and hospitality would engulf you. The flagship event best manager is the main Highlight of Biz Laureate as the best manager will be taken for a trip abroad and other quality prices assured. Adding colour to the fun and relaxation to mind is the cultural fest by the students of GSB. Besides the flagship events there were seven other such events were conducted. The day started off with the inaugural function where in GSB had the opportunity to invite Dr.Thamarai Selvan who is the Head OF The Department for management studies at NIT, Trichy and he was also joined by Mr.S.P.Selvaraj the Chairman of GSB and Mr.S.P.S.Aruldoss the CEO of GSB. The trailer of the mega event and the fun games for the participants were also launched by the three dignitaries. The students from other colleges were able to experience this unique inaugural event. Dr.Thamarai Selvan also enlightened the crowd with his motivating speech. This was followed by the introduction of all the events presented by the students. Soon after the inaugural function the ultimate battle between the colleges among the colleges were started off. The participants during their free time enjoyed the fun games organised by the faculties and the students of GSB. The evening was lit with bright colours as the cultural performances were blissfully presented by the talented dancers and singers of GSB. The day ended off with this joyful note, the battle is yet to be continued to the second day of the mega management meet.

CAMPUS INTERVIEW FROM TOP BANKS OF TAMIL NADU DATE: 14.02.2013

An on campus and an off campus interview were running parellel on this day. The on campus interview was from the city union bank and the off campus was from axis bank held at the Sastra University in Thanjavur. Majority of the students in Gnanam School of Business have opted for a banking career and the institute has provided for their career needs. The axis bank had succesfully conducted the aptitudetest in the same campus few days. The selected students had to just attend personal interview to be selected for the job at axis bank. ago. Today City union bank came on campus and had conducted the initial mode of recruitment. Interview started off at 10:00a.m. Initially the candidates had to write a general essay on a current topic, the topic given to them was "FDI in retail". The interview was taken to the next level by the carrying out an aptitude test, and the final round was a personal interview round were in the students were interviewed one by one by the recruiters from the bank. A total of 14 students had attended the interview on campus. The continuous effort of the students throughout the 2 year program could be seen at this time of their MBA course. The students have successfully improved themselves at many levels intellectually, logically and analytically. Their hard work has truly paid off. The institute is sure to place a large number of students in these two banks.

STUDENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM DATE: 20-02-2013

As a part of Knowledge Spreading Initiative in the field of Management, a student development programme was conducted at Gnanam School of business and it was attended by students from various colleges that are in and around Trichy and Thanjavur. More than 40 students were present at the programme. They were given an insightas to how an interview is conducted and how they have to participate in it.The topic was "group dynamics and interview skills for acquiring an M.B.A. degree. The students aspiring to do M.B.A were also motivated and they were given an opportunity to join Gnanam school of business as there will be group discussion and interview program that will be conducted in the near future. This year Gnanam school of business is aiming to attain a full admissions for the academic year 20132014 , with the hard work instilled into this process the institute will surely be able to attain their dream goal. What motivates the institute is that it is aspiring to produce managers who are competitive in the current environmentwhere day by day the level of unemployment is on the rise. It has attained a 100% placement for the past three years and it will continue to do so for the next batch of students also. This two year fully residential program aims at providing the students with the best ground for improving their knowledge and skills and in the end when they are out they transform into perfectly groomed manager.

EXECUTIVE TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT Date: 22/02/2013

A power talk on a fundamental topic of human resource management"Executive Training and Development" was conducted at Gnanam School of Business, where in a free lance trainer Miss Marie Anne Rosario, was invited to make her presence very useful to the students of GSB. Her career as a free lancer on behavioural sciences started in the year 2008. She is also pursuing her PhD. from the Loyola Institute for Business Administration, Loyola College, Chennai, which has been consistently one of the top ranked B-Schools in India. She has conducted corporate training for many firms and also many development programs such as faculty development programs and student development programs at different companies and educational institutes in the whole of Tamil Nadu. As the students of Gnanam School of Business are just one more semester away from choosing their specialisation, the institute is aiming to give a complete view on all the specialisations available. She gave a complete detailed description on the topic of "Executive Training and Development" which is a key element that every human resource manager is required to know. The institute is also offering many other guest lecturers to provide a comprehensive view of every field of management and making itself in par with many other top B-Schools of the country.

FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME Date: 23/02/2013

A faculty development programme was conducted at Gnanam School of Business on 23rd Feb, 2013. The chief guest for the programme was Dr. Krishnamoorthy, who is a professional trainer in the field of management. The dignitaries from Annai Velankanni College located at Thanjavur were invited for this session. A good deal of participation was shown from the college and the principal of the college also attended the programme. This was a full day session where in Dr. R.krishnamoorthy was approaching the audience with the Neuro Linguistic Programme. This kind of a programme is an expensive as well as difficult course but Gnanam School of Business made it possible in the life of faculties with a genuine feel for the development of their mind, body and soul. Even the students pursuing their specialisation in the field of human resource management is provided an NLP course degree which is arranged by the institute. Like this, GSB not only aims at providing programmes for the development of their own students and faculty, but also for the students and faculties from other institutes.

RETAILERS ASSOCIATION OF INDIA Date: 01/03/2013

The fifth day of the course on FUNCTIONAL RETAIL MANAGEMENT by the Retailers Association of India was conducted at Gnanam School of Business. Between the days of 25th February till the 1st of March the students of GSB had a full overview of the retail industry. They also had the privilege to encounter with many eminent personalities from the industries. This day was visited by Mr Sathish Bhatt, the COO of ARAVIND BRANDS, holding various top retail stores such as MEGA MART. It is one of the flagship courses offered at GSB, wherein this type of courses only offered at premium institutes such as IIMs IITs etc. The session was enlighten with the realities of the real world. Then different elements related to retail was discussed such as finance, products, etc.., this was truly an interactive session. He has also shared his experience on the retail floor. The past three day session was attended by Mr BalaKrishnan Gopalakrishnan, the marketing director of TOBY a premium apparel and accessories brand. During the three days the students had the opportunities to go to the various practical sessions. Mr Kumar rajagopalan the CEO of RAI was here with the students, on the first day of the course, to spend the entire day with the students explaining to them the basic of retailing. This way the institute arranges various types of programmes for the students of GSB more courses are yet to be added to the building of their profiles.

BUDGET ANALYSIS 2013 DATE: 04/03/2013

Gnanam School of business in assosiation with chamber of commerce and industries based at thanjavur has taken the initiative to arrange a panel for the dicussion for the budget presented this year. The program initiated at around 6 p.m. in the evening of 4th March 2013. The main aim of the program was to impart business wisdom to the students of Gnanam School of business. The discussion includes various panelists such as Mr.B.Swaminathan , the Director of Karur Vysya Bank , Mr. L.Somasundaram, the director for the centre for development of finance , IFMR, Chennai, Mr. V.Balasubramaniam, Asst. Resident Editor of the Economic Times , Mr. T.Chockkalingam , the general manager of finance at BHEL , Trichy. The position of the moderator at the session was handled by Mr. V.Alagappan who is a Chartered Accountant by profession. There was an intellectual interactive session with these industry wizards and the academicians to gain an understanding into the union budget presented by the Finance Minister Mr.P.Chidambaram on the 28th of February. The panel has discussed many aspects of the budget. They proposed that this years budget gains the most importance as it is presented at such an interesting time, when a recent economic survey of the FICCI gives a forecast of 6.7% of GDP growth for the year 2013-2014, the state looks promising to ensure the growth in the areas of manufacturing, industrial and the agricultural sectors of the economy. The budget may act as the impelling force on the comprehensive growth of the economy. India's budget for the next fiscal year offers a "realistic" plan to meet the country's fiscal deficit target. India's fiscal consolidation plans could pave the way for monetary easing, thus helping revive economic growth, India unveiled the 2013-2014 budget on 28th February 2013 that seeks to meet its fiscal deficit target of 4.8 percent of gross domestic product by raising revenue to fund a dash for growth ahead of elections due by next year. Fiscal consolidation is a policy intended to reduce deficits and the accumulation of debt it refers to the governments economic policy. The panel confronted that the budget this year focuses on the attraction of foreign investments into the country. The FDI has finally been approved by the Indian government and this year the investment structure of the country will improve due to the entry of FDI. With proper implementation of the FDI the country will be able to observe a tremendous growth in the countrys economic structure. It was also deliberated by the panel that there will be an expected push into the public expenditure, as mentioned earlier the spending on the infrastructure will be more for this year. India will increase its public spending in fiscal year 2013/14 without compromising on its fiscal deficit .India's Finance Minister P Chidambaram has announced that the total budget expenditure will raise by 16 percent to 16.65 trillion rupees for the fiscal year starting on 1 April. The additional expenditure, funded through higher taxes on the rich and big companies, will be on infrastructure projects and rural schemes aimed at creating more demand and jobs in order to spur

growth. The fiscal deficit for the current year will decline to 5.2 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) and next year's deficit will be 4.8 percent of GDP in line with targets the country intends to generate higher revenues for the next fiscal year by levying more taxes on super rich and large companies.In the area of healthcare there has been an increase in the allotment of funds for the healthcare industry, medical education, training and research. There has also been a little increase in the education sector, presented in the budget this year, as stated by the Human Resource Minister. Even the tax issue is the biggest issue in this years budget and that was also discussed during the program. This way the panel which included various dignitaries from many industries took up various sectors for discussion. They represented each sector and conversed about the allocation of the funds to these sectors, the expectations of each sectors and what was actually presented at the union budget for this year. There has been wide anticipation by these sectors and the panel has also discussed about the provision that the budget has put up for them this year. This is also one of the most important events organized by the institute on a yearly basis, exactly at the time when the budget is presented on the 28th February 2013. There are yet more programs that will be organized by the institute, as it will not miss an opportunity that knocks at its door.

POWER TALK ON SPIRITUAL QUOTIENT IN EFFECTIVE BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

Gnanam School of Business organised a power talk on Spiritual Quotient for the students of GSB. As the institute focuses on the students holistic development towards leadership & managerial wisdom, here was yet another rare opportunity given to them to listen to the spiritual wisdom of Rev. Dr. Bosco Antony Ryan, a Professor at Sacred Heart College, Chennai arranged on 20th April 2013 (Saturday).GSB offers training and development programs for the students to make them well equipped for the competitive world that they are yet to face outside after the completion of their two year fully-residential course. The training and development taken for the students not only focuses on their IQ, EQ but also their SQ (Spiritual Quotient). The speaker also mentioned that Spiritual Quotient (SQ) is described as a measure that looks at a person's spiritual intelligence in the same way as Iintelligence Quotient (IQ) looks at cognitive intelligence. The concept encapsulates 6 types of personality: social, investigative, artistic, realist, contractor and conventional. One can attain Spirituality quotient through certain practices such as prayer, meditation and reading the religious scriptures. One must not underestimate the power of God on man and surely he should never underestimate the power of prayers as it is one way of reaching God. This way the students were facilitated with the knowledge of spiritual thought and its importance in every aspects of life be it education, at work place or any other part of the students life.

POWER TALK ON SERVICES MARKETING DATE: 24/04/2013

Mr.JonathBackiaSeelan, the Senior Vice President of Pagalguy.com was here yesterday for a power talk on one of the fundamental concepts of marketing namely services marketing. With his unmatchable job profile of working for 10 years in an insurance company and now as the senior vice president of pagalguy.com, he was able to deliver his worthwhile experiences on the dias to students of Gnanam School of Business. Moreover the relevance of service industry to the GDP of India was also explained flawlessly. He mentioned that more than 50% of the household incomes are spent on the service sector alone in our diverse country. There is always a scope for job oppurtunities in the services industry. Services industry are also one of the least industries to be affected by recession or any other adverse economic conditions. He was able to deliver very vital points on the current scenario of the service sector. The concept. Now the concept of Let the buyer beware is replaced by Customer is King. Nowadays the buyers are looking for the best customer service to be offered by the company, even if the product sold is tangible the customer will only buy if the service offered to them is good. The importance of service was clearly explained by Mr.JonathBackiaSeelan. Though he is from the field of social marketing hje was able to deliver a great insight to the students in the field of services marketing. The students of GSB were able to get a remarkable view of the concept.

POWER TALK ON HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY Date: 02/05/2013

Gnanam School of Business has organised a power talk on the Hospitality industry in India and Mr.Subbu alias Mr.Subramaniam was invited to deliver the speech. Gnanam School of Business has the privilege to invite this eminent personality, as he is the CEO of Mantra Veppathur Resorts, located at Veppathur which is located at the district of Kumbakonam. He started off by sharing his 28 years of experience at the hotel industry. He had the opportunity to work with many of the top hotel industries of India like the TATA Groups. He gave the students a 360 degree view of the hotel industry in India and said that this industry has a wide range of opportunities available for the students perusing their MBA degrees. The major formula for success in the hotel industry is to know your clients, interact with them and ensure that their customers are delighted. He also stated that every student must be dedicated and committed towards their goals and must also ensure that their passion is eternal and does not die off with the passage of time. The power talk was able to instigate new thoughts about the hospitality industry into the minds of the students of GSB. Truly the institute arranges for many powerful industrialists into the campus and enables the students to have a close contact interaction with them and also have the privilege to question them on their success and their failures in their respective areas of work. Mr.Subbu was fascinated with the interest that the students had put forth towards the service industry. Every MBA student must keep in mind that money is a secondary goal but with their passion and commitment they can reach even higher heights than just earning money.

A WORKSHOP ON MARKETING DATE:04.05.2013

A workshop was conducted Gnanam School of Business on the marketing concept of segmenting, targeting and positioning. Mr.Sateesh Krishnamurthy, a wellknown brand consultant from Chennai was present at the institute to enlighten the students about one of the most important marketing concepts. He gave a different insight into the concept of segmenting, targeting and positioning. To talk more about the guest, he has 20 years of experience in the field of marketing and with very wellknown industries one of them being Cavinkare. He mentioned the four levels that constitute the segmentation segment marketing, niche marketing, local marketing and customization. His entire presentation on these important topics was presented very creatively with case studies and examples to mix with the concept. The institute arranges for many such workshops for one or two days in order to enhance the knowledge of the students practically and not just theoretically. The concept of 4Ps was also explained incredibly by Mr.Satheesh Krishnamurthy , he stated that it is the foundation of marketing and every company has the control over the four Ps namely- Product,Price,Place and Promotion. All the other factors cannot be controlled by a marketer; he will have to his policies according to the change in every other factor other than the 4 Ps. This way the students were able to get a lot of information regarding the major concepts of marketing.

GNANAM PRIMIER LEAGUE (SEASON 4) Date : 7/5/2013

It is with great pleasure to announce that Gnanam School of Business has succesfully launched Gnanam Premier League , the ultimate cricketing tournament, for the fourth consecutive year at the campus. This craze started off by the students of Gnanam School of Business in the year 2009 as with the idea of Indian Premier League in the minds of the students. Every year students would tickle their brains out to conceive a one of a kind idea for the tornament to be conducted and played at the field. The event is condusted till the 14th of May. The main guest of the event was Mr.S.P.Selvaraj , who is the chairman of Gnanam School of Business and Mr.S.P.S.Arul Doss the C.E.O. of Gnanam School of Business. There are four teams under the league. The team names denotes a never dying courage and passion for the game of cricket. The team names are Falcons, Spartans, Warriors and Titans. Each team has around 11 players in their teams. The teams are owned by the team owners who are the faculties of Gnanam School of Business. There was an auction that was conducted for the players and the team captains and the rest of the team players were chosen on the auction that was conducted one week before the tounament was initiated. Each team had to design their own jerseys and logos for their teams. Every step undertaken to implement the game is a management learning that as a B-school Gnanam School of Business was able to inculcate into the students. There is not only the endless amount of fun but also a sense of leadership and team work was also mixed with the game of cricket. As it is known that the institute has many student initiated clubs , each club had to contributed their share of idea and work into the Gnanam Premier League and were successfully able to deliver it as wholistic package of entertainment and management also. The girls of Gnanam School of Business took the exclusive charge of organising the event. There games arranged for the girls during the time of the match. There was also a running commentary that was also done by the female managers of Gnanam School of Business. There will be also continuous update on facebook on the current happenings of the match. The institute always aims to develop in to the students a sense of leadership in them at all times and at all events.

POWER TALK ON FOREX Date: 18/05/2013

Mr. Tharani Prakash M.K, Assistant Manager- FOREX in Axis Bank, Chennai was here to address the students of Gnanam School of Business regarding the Forex and Foreign Trade. The objective of the event was to impart knowledge to the students about the FOREX market as well as to shed light on the practical applications of Inter Bank Rate (IBR) calculations. The session was more interactive and he was able to deliver the importance of FEDAI (Foreign Exchange Dealers Association of India) and RBI the apex bank in generating rules for Forex. He clearly described the reasons for the fluctuations in the foreign exchange rate. Market forces of demand and supply, Inflation, Interest Rate, Political interventions are the major factors which determine the Forex Rate. Foreign trade involves products and services. Customs are responsible for product transactional activities. Software Technology Park of India (STPI) governs the software related export and import activities. It all ended up in a thought provoking capability test which was conducted to the students of GSB. The questionnaire was all about FOREX transaction for a bank and the rate to be applied.

FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME Date: 20-07- 2013.

Every Saturday always acts as a turning point in ones life as they evaluate their progress over the past week and make decisions to prepare for the forthcoming one. This Saturday i.e., 20th July 2013, The Gnanam School of Business made significant changes in the life of 41 faculties. The Chief Guest for the programme was Dr. Krishnamoorthy, who is a professional trainer in the field of management. The faculties from the St. Josephs Girls Higher Secondary School in Thanjavur (Bon Secours Management) were invited for the session. The session was on Psycho Social Dynamics in Classroom. This kind of a programme is an expensive as well as difficult course but Gnanam School of Business made it possible in the life of faculties with a genuine feel for the development of their mind,body and soul. Like this, GSB not only aims at providing programmes for the development of their own faculties, but also for the faculties from other institutes.

INDUCTION PROGRAMME FOR FRESHERS GNANAM SCHOOL OF BUSINESS 03.09.2013 to 05.09.2013

Gnanam School of Business(GSB), Thanjavur is a unit of the A.Y.S Parisutha Nadar Centenary Foundation, a Public Charitable Trust which was started to commemorate the birth centenary of Shri. A.Y.S Parisutha Nadar, who was a philanthropist in Thanjavur. Gnanam School of Business, a leading business school in Thanjavur is inducting the fresh batch of students for the MBA program 20122014. The Induction Program was held on 3rd September to 5th September 2012 to help students be oriented towards the guiding principles of the programme that include empowering students with distilled business wisdom, insights and a strong conceptual foundation, inculcating in them the character to emerge as future business leaders that will be a benchmark for excellence in every aspect. Shri. A.Y.S Parisutha Nadar served three terms as M.L.A of Thanjavur. He was responsible for implementing various social welfare measures for the people of Thanjavur. Besides, he was also responsible for bringing a medical college to this region during the 1950's. The Trust has been promoted by three trustees including Shri S.P.Selvaraj B.Com, Smt. Francisca Selvaraj and Shri. S.P.S. Arul Doss M.B.A. The promoters have been well-known entrepreneurs in the Hospitality and Travel Industry for a very long time in the historic town of Thanjavur. They have also been associated with developmental works in the field of agriculture which is the mainstay occupation of the region. Having started in 2009 and completed three successful batches with 100% placements GSB on Sep 3 rd conducted the Induction programme for the Batch 2012 -2014. The induction programme is scheduled as a three day event. As the freshers walked into the portals of Gnanam School of Business, the management of GSB, the faculty members, the students and the staff were indeed delighted to welcome them with open hands and jubilant faces. Parivarthan, the Freshers Week is organized at Gnanam School of Business to mark the grand welcoming of the newcomers and to assist the newly admitted GSBians to get acquainted with the ideals and functioning of the institution. The activities during the week were organized to help them bond with each other, the sophomores and the faculty members of GSB. This transformational programme is aimed at breaking the ice and making the freshers feel part of the GSB family in which they would be members henceforth. Finally, Parivarthan, the

Freshers Week would be drawn to a conclusion on 5 th September 2012 with sophomores throwing a Freshers Day party at Hotel Gnanam, Thanjavur. The inauguration of this induction program had a good start by having eminent personality like Dr. M. Punniyamoorthy, Faculty, Dept. of Management studies, NIT, Trichy. The inauguration program began with lighting of traditional Kuthu Vizhakku by the Chief guest Dr.M.Punniyamoorthy; the Chairman, Mr.S.P.Selvaraj; and the CEO, Mr.S.P.S. ArulDoss. Dr. Punniyamoorthy gave a keynote address to all the freshers, stating the importance of soft skills which adds up to their betterment. Also he was emphasizing the importance of specialization in MBA, and how students should stream themselves into these specializations. To make the students more aware about the prevailing industry trends and requirements Mr.Yesudasan, Vice President, BMA Wealth Creators shared his views on roles and responsibilities of a manager irrespective of the specialization. He stressed on the distinguishing factor between studying and learning and urged the students to focus more on the latter than the former. Post lunch session was handled by Mr.Sessudasan, Founder CEO Harappa Luxury Goods. He conducted a self-introspection session and helped students in identifying their strengths and weakness. He shared the challenges that one have to face in becoming an entrepreneur. He stressed upon the students becoming Job creators rather than job seekers. The students had a wonderful session all day both thought provoking and entertaining. The day was drawn to a close with Interactive session posted by the sophomores to the freshers. The next day session was handled by Dr. Rajeesh Viswanathan, Asst. Professor, Pondicherry University who handled a session on Case Study Methodology for teaching MBA students. He spoke on the benefits of the case study approach to increase the dexterity in designing the course curriculum and enable the students to reap the maximum benefit emphasising on both quantitative and qualitative analysis. He added that rather than teaching what is there in books, giving case studies to the students will help them to know what is their in the current economy and they will be competent enough to the face the world. He also mentioned that through case study methods students will try to develop the communication skills. Penultimate session was handled by Rev. Fr. Alphonse Charles on the topic Transactional Analysis. It was an important session for the students which was bundled with all the concepts relating human psychology. Fr. Alphonse segmented the topic transactional analysis into three categories. The Parent, The Adult, The Child and the behaviour of these three categories. The topic transactional analysis was made into limelight to all students. Also he stated about the relationship that is to be maintained among people. The session was found to be a lively one.

The last session on 5th September, 2012 was handled by Mr. Xavier, a HR trainer, who trained the students to build up their skills to compete with the present corporate world. He mainly trained the students to build up communication skills rather than having a bookish knowledge. He also educated the students to learn to communicate with the people. Later on after the lunch, the session went on in a way towards team building in corporate world. He also advised the students to build up teams and to perform the tasks. Then moving towards the end of the programme, he divided the students into teams and conducted some management games and gave the analysis about the teams performance on win or loose basis. Finally a time has come for the seniors to felicitate the management for the arrangement of the induction programme for freshers and to welcome their juniors with warm love and care. As a token of their love they entertained the juniors with a freshers party.

TEACHERS DAY CELEBRATIONS DATE : 05.09.2013

Gnanam School of Business celebrated Teachers Day on 5th Sept 2012. A warm welcome and greeting was given to each and every faculty of GSB and some students felicitated them with their warm regards and thanks giving. The students enthralled the staff members with fun games, which they enjoyed a lot. The series of games which were arranged for the staff included Siricha Pochu, Ad zap, Just a Minute in Tamil, mimicry, and Making opponent team laugh. C.E.O of GSB Mr.S.P.S Arul Doss greeted the faculty members on behalf of the management and expressed his happiness on being a faculty himself. A WORKSHOP WAS CONDUCTED AT GNANAM SCHOOL OF BUSINESS RELATED TO STOCK EXCHANGE DATE : 26.09.2012

The proprietor of AKSHAYA INVESTMENTS Mr.Ramkumar enlightened the students about tock market in India and the world. He also made the students to understand that brands are not to be kept in mind and also the company behind the brand. The students learnt about the Market Intelligence market trends and sensex scrips through economic times and how to check them out in everydays life that gives us the knowledge to know what is going on in stock market i.e NSE and BSE , and told about MCX which is going to be launch after Diwali in India. He narrated about BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) the emerging economy which are about to dominate the business world in future and ends the session with Technical Analysis. Mr. Ramkumar gave the students such brief information all about Stock Exchange and it was so helpful to the students and taught them how to develop our country with Stock Market movements and trading.

He was responsible for implementing various social welfare measures for the people of Thanjavur.Gnanam school of business has a sole motive of bringing out the best manager in each and every individual as a part of this process, a thought provoking seminar was conducted for the students on 1st of October. The session was started by honorable CEO, Mr. S.P.S Arul Doss and to enlighten the session a vibrant resource person Dr. Chandrasekaran was present. The honorable chief guest Dr. Chandrasekaran is the Vice president of TAKE solutions and he is specialized in the areas of Strategic Management, Supply Chain Management and Career Guidance .He has contributed his knowledge to the society by authoring some books in his areas of specialization. Dr. Chandrasekaran provided some insights on the topic, supply chain and management and strategy to the students. He quoted AMUL has best example for Supply Chain Management and Logistics. Here, Positive Thinking Is An Essential Part And A Smile, Greeting And Appreciation Are The First Steps To Positive Thinking. Students Fail In This Part Because They Do Not Appreciate And Evaluate Themselves. The Main Context of This Power Talk Is Why MBA? Students Choose It Usually Because They Feel They Would Get a Better Job, Or Its Parents Dream, But They Have to Work with Great and Undying Interest. TRANSFORMING INDIANS TO TRANSFORM THE NATION DATE : 17.10.2013

A very inspirational speech was given by Swami Mithranandha who is an initiator in Chimaya Mission. He started the Chinmaya Mission to Transform India by Transforming the Indians. He and his followers travel throughout India to ignite the fire of patriotism in every Indian. He spoke to us about some great indians like mahatma Gandhi, Nethaji subash chandra Bose, who brought tremendous transformation 60 years back, but at present people are not caring for the nation. He also initiated the book Transforming Indians to Transform India which is a very thoughtful initiative by the chinmaya mission. This book includes stories that would inspire each and every Indian to bring a transformation. He also wanted to spread his missions initiative throughout India, for this he is conducting a national quiz to spread the message. Seminars will also be conducted by this mission to spread the messages of the mission throughout India. The students of Gnanam School of Business felt it to be a very inspiring and a motivating speech. As managers they felt that they should never forget India while moving in the path of success. It reached the hearts of every student.

FACULTY DEVELOPEMENT PROGRAM ON TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT DATE : 1.11. 2012

A one day faculty development program was conducted in Gnanam School of Business on the topic of total quality management. Prof.Kidambi Srinivasan, a six sigma black belt and a learned practitioner in the field of total quality management was there to present seminar on the topic. Prof.Srinivasan gave the faculties studied good insights about the need for TQM in the organisation. Every business has to establish the best quality. Quality in terms of business can be related to customer satisfaction, fitness for use of the product, conformance to the requirements of the customer and a ability to satisfy a stated or implied need. There are also many factors which determine the extent of the quality required by the customer. He also told us about how the concept of TQM was evolved. In earlier days the organisations inspected the products, then the quality control was initiated and performed and this was continued with the concept of quality assured, and finally Total Quality Management was introduced. Every organisation needs to follow the concept of total quality management. He gave us detailed description about the various concepts such as six sigma, process capability & cost of quality. Six sigma is considered as the breakthrough in management strategies, it revolutionized the worlds top companies. It uses process capabilities as a way of measuring progress. This topic was explained excellently by Prof. Srinivasan and he gave the faculties &the students the method to calculate the same. The faculties from various institutions in and around thanjavur, attended this program .They found it to be very useful and they felt that they could take along with them very useful information to their students. The programme was also attended by MBA students of GSB and they were fascinated by the way TQM can be implemented for the successful running of the business.

GUEST LECTURE ON TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT DATE: 3.11.2012

Gnanam School of Business, Thanjavur has often arranged and conducted many workshops and guest lecturers and todays lecture was one more highly resourceful session which will go a long way in shaping the students career. We had two sessions on Total Quality Management. In the morning, the first session was conducted by Mr. Santhosh and Mr.Gowtham from DOMS NIT, Trichy. They presented their projects on operations and production areas at two famous automobile companies viz, TOYOTA and ASHOK LEYLAND respectively. Mr. Santhosh shared his presentation on Jishuken implementation at TOYOTA Krilosker Motor Company in which he spoke about the Reduction of assembly defects in corolla through Jishuken activity. Through his presentation we learned about how TQM processes were implemented at TOYOTA to address and rectify practical problems. The next presentation was given by Mr. Gowtham on ASHOK LEYLAND in which he spoke about lean six sigma. He gave us statistical and practical approach to how a problem should be identified what should be done to narrow the causes. He used the fishbone diagram to explain this procedure. We understood that problem identification is the most important step in a quality management. The above presentations were thought provoking, as we got deeper insight of how the total quality management concepts can be implemented in a better way.

POWER TALK ON BANKING AND FINANCIAL SERVICES DATE: 6.11. 2012

Gnanam School of Business conducted a power talk on banking and the financial sector. For this occasion, a very resourceful person from the banking sector, T.S.Vinaykumar, the V.P of HDFC bank was invited to present this power talk. He had the idea to create a very communicative and interactive session with the students. He enlightened the students about the vast career opportunities in the banking sector pertaining to current scenario. The major participants available in the banking sector were discussed in the session. The major part of the session was the significance of the banking sector which was excellently explained to the management student. He emphasized that the study growth of the GDP are being benefited only by the very few small parts of population. The rural areas do not seem to avail any benefits. As future banking professionals, the growth should be inclusive and spread across the country. Every responsible person in the country should be able to get employment and banking sector has a great opportunity to employ a large pool of employees, next to the IT sector. But, unfortunately this not happening at present. Banks wants to operate in a area were the population is high. The focus must be changed to the rural areas. Even though RBI is taking steps to attain the same, the main behind is for the betterment of the economy and improvement in the status of the job opportunities. The banking sector is also facing lot of risk this was made known to the students. Half of the Indian economy consider as a black economy. Moreover the fake currency pumped in by other countries, can destabilize the Indian economy. All these problems affect the growth of GDP. The scope for marketing, Operations and technology are also very high is the banking sector. He also emphasized that summer projects can be done by MBA students relating to the financial sector for a better job opportunity. These tips made the session a very informative one.

DEEPAKA UTSAV 2012 DATE: 09/11/2012

The magnificent diwali function Deepaka utsav 2012 was celebrated by the Gnanam school of Business on 9th of November. This function will be celebrated each year before diwali begins. It was a grand celebration and was chaired and inaugurated by Mr.P.Manoharan along with his family. Mr.P.Manoharan is currently working as the AGM (Additional General Manager) of the HR department at BHEL. The Chairman of the Institution Mr.S.P.Selvaraj, the CEO of GSB Mr.S.P.S.Aruldoss and also the faculty members attended the program besides their busy schedule. GSB was lit with the lights of joy and happiness on that day with the entire family of GSB was present to spread over their love and Joy on that delightful night. The function began with the words of praise to the Almighty. This was followed by a classical dance that portrayed great set of emotions and it was acclaimed to be a very expressive performance by the audience. It truly brought forth an exclusive traditional experience. The important personality of the day Mr.P.Manoharan was introduced to the crowd. The real meaning of diwali was explained by the students and this brought the real story of diwali which most of the young generation have forgotten. The cultural show began with a western genre of dance by the Gsbians which showed the energy and the power of the youth of the Indians today. At the later part of the programme, there was a folk dance and it portrayed that besides the advent of technology, we Indians dont forget our origin of culture. The nightingale and the maestro of GSB sang their hearts out and captured each soul present in the crowd. The mime was so wonderful that the message of love was spread to the crowd very instantly. Finally the grand finale was concluded with a mesmerizing theme, which conveyed the profession of Indian agriculture. It made us realize that India survived with agriculture and it will continue to do so. The program was ended with the bursting of fireworks as no one can think of diwali without fireworks in the sky. Inspite of the diversities in our Indian culture, the Gsbians celebrated diwali as one big happy family.

CHILDRENS DAY CELEBRATION IN GSB DATE: 4.11.2012

The SAMARITANS, the CSR Club (Corporate Social Responsibilities) of Gnanam School of Business (GSB) meaningfully celebrated the Childern's day at its campus. As a part of the Childern's day celebrations, the CSR club of GSB organised and conducted a series of competitions for children between I to VIII std from some of the govrnnment schools of its neighbouring villages such as Ayyasamipatti, Ayyodhi Patti and Pudhupatti. Competitions such as Essay Writing, Thirukural Recitation, Elocution in English & Tamil and Drawing were conducted. Prizes were distributed to meritorious candidates by the Chief Guest Mr. S.P. Selvaraj, the Chairman of GSB. This Childrens Day celebration was a meaningful initiative from the Management and the studnets of GSB under the banner of The Samaritans, the CSR Club as a mark of duty and responsibility towards our budding society. The entire day was full of fun and frolic and the campus was aglow with sparks of laughter from every child who participated. All the students of GSB were engaging the children with lots of games and dances to break the ice and it looked heart-touching too. The day ended with a grand lunch followed by prize distribution and sharing of gifts and sweets to the children.

It was a momentous day for Gnanam School of business as the marketing guru of south; Mr. Padmasingh Isaac was here to share his success story to the budding entrepreneurs of the institute. it was a very knowledgeable experience as he mentioned the various know-how of marketing his AACHI brand of products. He showed us that businesses could not only be successful in urban areas, he showed his extreme levels of success in rural and semi urban areas.He brought forth to the students his own personal experiences which gave more enlightment to the program. Though he was from a middle class family it showed that family status is not a hindrance to the path of success. The support given by his family especially his wife who gave him immense financial and emotional support is the result of the success of the brand. it was this great personality's aspirations and dreams that has transformed him into what he is today.He knew the abundant market potential of the Bottom of the Pyramid even before several MNCs launched their aggressive rural marketing measures. In a span of just 12 years, AACHI has out beaten its competitors and has emerged as the No: 1 FMCG Brand in Southern India. His marketing strategies were so strong that his new products could reach even the remotest village of South India within just 6 days of launching that product. Public speaking, the most essential feature and skill for a good manager was taught to the students of Gnanam School of Business by an eminent personality, Mr.A.Alagappan, the founder and the director of Blossom School, Thanjavur. He addressed the first year MBA students on public speaking and he emphasized that public speaking is the most essential skill a manager should posses, as he has to face the situation of presenting himself in front of the management and public. He gave the very basics of good communication at the beginning. The most important factor is to remove the stage fear from students. He gave the students useful tips to develop a good content depending upon the speech. He also added that a manager has to attract the audience, so the concept of body language was brought into view at the latter half of the session. He even gave out the secrets of good delivery of speech which posed to be of great importance to the future managers of GSB. The students felt that they had never encountered such a man with great public skills. Moreover the content that he gave was truly from the experience of an amazing public speaker. It was an opportunity not to be missed session at GSB.

OUT OF THE BOX THINKING DATE: 24.11. 2012

Gnanam School of business had the very privilege for inviting Mr.A.Ramanathan for a power talk, who is the Chairman of the recently constituted society for micro finance education and research, at Pondicherry University. He was here to give an innovative presentation on out of the box thinking. He was very interactive with the students, as he felt this easy going approach will extract the best ideas from them. Instead of keeping it as a usual PowerPoint presentation, he gave out certain questionnaires that had exercises, which determined whether the student can think differently or not. At the end of the exercise he laid down the reasons for not thinking out of the box. If there are certain barriers such as time constrains, no clarity of communication it could bring halt innovative thinking. Also when the individuals are working at their own comfort level and they are not willing to raise their standards. This would create their hindrances. Every firm needs their employees to be non monotonous in their work, if the employees are not willing to take any risks, he will not be developing, his need in the company will be analysed soon. He also focused on the concept of interpersonal activities and divided the students into groups and then analyse as to why we are not able to think out of the box. The session came to an end with his experiences being put forward to the student. This really made the students attain lots of ideas to think differently.

PSYCHOLOGY OF A CLASSROOM DATE : 24.11.2012 The faculties of Kamala Subramaniam School were at Gnanam School of Business to attend a faculty development programme presented by Mr.

Krishnamurthy, NLP Practitioner and Trainer. It was a full day session wherein Mr. Krishnamurthy gave various ideas to the faculty to explore the psychology of the students in the classroom. Each behavior of the student conveys a certain message. So these behaviors were analyzed during the session. The faculty members of Kamala Subramaniam School interacted well and also shared their experiences and also got an opportunity to put their ideas. By understanding their psychology of students mind, the teachers are able to find out their needs and offer them the best education not only in terms of studies, but also in moulding a good character for the students. Knowing the psychology of the students is a truly exceptional tool for managing the students. Shaping of a good character at the earliest stage of life of the students is very essential. The faculty members from Kamala Subramaniam School were able to going this from this session. Taking the book in the hand and explaining the words of the book are not the ways to connect to the students. It is much beyond that. It is going to the depth of the students feeling and helps them to come out of a problem that the students face.Mr. Krishnamurthy is a regular guest at GSB and has conducted various FDP program Mimes at GSB. So with his unmatchable experience he was able to connect with the audience very professionally. The faculty of Kamala Subramaniam School could taste the taste of his experience in this field. If these kinds of FDPs are arranged regularly the teachers will be able to attain a good relationship with the students.

CAROLS NIGHT DATE: 14.12.2012

The upcoming festival of Christmas was celebrated at gsb with the carols sung by the students. It is celebrated as carols night ' were in the entire campus is filled with the joyful carols and this truly enlightens the mood of Christmas amongst the students. The programme was attended by F r. Francis Gamaliyel; who was the guest of honour for the show. He is currently The Director of Don Bosco Institute of Information And Communication Excellence And Alaihal Media. The institute is approved by Bharathidasan University of Tiruchirapalli and it institutes for promoting entrepreneurship and career development among the students and the non student youths. The program was celebrated with making of the stars for men's and women's residence of the business school. The evening was filled with songs, dance and fun games and this engaged everyone in the campus and truly the message of god was also conveyed through the program. The chief guest fr. Francis Gamaliyel spoke about the symbols of Christmas in his address and the true meaning of celebrated Christmas was broadenED though his speech. Obviously the Christmas celebration will not be complete without the presence of the Santa clause. Santa clause was also invited to attend the program and he was the star of the show. With this joyful program, the entire family of gsb celebrated together the festival of Christmas.

A MEGA DANCE EVENT AT GNANAM SCHOOL OF BUSINESS DATE : 15.12.2012

Euphoria 2012 - a dance contest was held at gsb to celebrate the two festivals Christmas and New Year. It is an annual dance competition wherein the student and the faculty members of gsb are divided into two teams namely -Rrhapsody and Allegra. These two teams have to battle out with their dancing skills in various genres of dance such as classical, western and folk. The grand finale of the show is the presentation of a theme by each of the competitors, the theme holds the most value in the competition and the two teams have to present it with a meaningful idea. The chief guest for this mega event was Mr. S.P.Selvaraj who an eminent personality in the town of thanjavur, he is also the chairman of gsb. The judges invited for the show were Mrs. Usha Nandhini and Mrs.Sheela David; they were truly the ideal judges for euphoria 2012. The dance war started off with a folk dance from both the teams, it was truly a very colourful performance. Then an essence of the west was brought into the show with the western dance, both the teams truly rocked the stage. Truly Christmas cannot be celebrated without Santa clause. Santa clause landed at gsb campus to add more joy and love to the show. Gsb as a big and a happy family will never forget its offspring, so the students from the 2010 - 2011 batch were invited as alumni to the campus to make their Christmas and New Year as an unforgettable moment. To add more zest the show New Year was celebrated at gsb by having a look at the photos of this gsb family which created a long lasting effect on the emotions of the students. Finally the grand finale of the show paved way for the ultimate battle between the two titans. The Allegra team gave a unique theme about the incarnation of Lord Vishnu, whereas the counterpart rhapsody presented a very patriotic theme to the audience. These two performances truly make the judges choice a difficult one. in the end the results were announced by the judges and the team Allegra was the one to take home the championship for euphoria 2012. This was a truly remarkable and a unforgettable moment at gsb.

STUDENT DEVLOPMENT PROGRAM DATE : 16.12.2012

A program for the personality and the skill development of the student were held at gnanam school of business. Students from various college of thanjavur and tiruchirapalli attended the program. The students were from the final years of under graduation were to understand the importance of group discussion and personal interview for their career. Moreover the admission for the next academic year of 2013-2014 was started on this day. The students were also given the information about the facilities offered by gsb, curricular and the extracurricular activities that were conducted at gsb. A mock group discussion and personal interview was conducted in the program, so that the students will be aware of the standards and the expectations that the institute and the corporate world beholds. The institute is looking forward to raise the bar of the quality of the students and they are expecting to develop the institute further by keeping other high ranking b-schools in mind as the benchmark. The students from various other institute felt that it was a great experience to have come to gsb and they felt they were given adequate knowledge on how to attend group discussions and personal interviews.

CAMPUS INERVIEW DATE: 17/12/2012

Next electronic retails came to the GSB campus to conduct the campus interview from the company two eminent individuals Mr.Kaitha Ram, the HR manager and Mr.Semi pillai, the circle manager from the Next Company came to conduct the campus recruitment. From GSB there were 30 students who attended the interview. Initially there was a group discussion, where all the 30 students attended it. Then, the personal interview was conducted where in 15 students were filtered. The students found the experience as a very knowledgeable one. They truly felt the pressure of their requirements for a job, when there is continuous increase in job requirement by the youth of India, but there are inadequate job opportunities available. But besides the troublesome times GSB has attained 100% placement for the past two years and it will always aim to do so.

A SESSION ON CORE COMPETENCY DATE: 22/12/2012

Mr.A.B.Shivakumar, the HR manager of Brakes India Ltd, Tiruchirapalli was here to conduct a power talk on the core competencies of the management. Many south Indian companies such as Mahindra & Mahindra, TVS motors have adopted this concept and have proved to be successful in the respective business. In the initial part of the program Mr.A.B.Shivakumar focused on the importance of becoming an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurship can truly pave the way to success in todays competitive environment, if provided the concept of core competencies are adopted with the use of core competencies, a business can have a bundle of skills, not one skills, to offer superior quality to the customers. The success stories of many businesses such as the famous saravana bhavan was discussed in the session. Truly practical examples of various firms that had the core competencies were conversed to the session. Not to forget there is always the other side of a coin, so there were also companies which failed to reach the standards. Mr.A.B.Shivakumar also advised the students of GSB to nurture their knowledge so that the companies will be able to recognise them. The first challenge for every MBA student is to understand that the only thing that keeps changing everyday is change itself. The second challenge is for the MBA is to understand change in all it's facts. so with these thought provoking statements the students felt that they should always consider the changes in every walks of life. a good source of information was gained through this powerful session.
