Tourism is one of the largest and important industry which is useful for the development of nation. It contributes 11% of the world's GDP and may create million jobs by the year 2010.

Indian Tourism Industry

Tourism in India has grown up very much during the last decades. It gives the second highest net foreign exchange earnings to our economy. Foreign tourist arrivals are at 2.64 millions during 2000. Domestic tourism helps to understand various cultures and experience national integration among the citizens.

Apart from the higher class people the middle class has emerged as a powerful source for the development of domestic tourism. Around 1.50 million domestic tourists have made a trip outside their places. The ninth five year plan gives importance to development of infrastructure, development of resorts and sports, exploring new source markets in region and countries having culture affinity, environmental protection and culture preservation of national heritage projects, launching of national image buildings and marketing plans, providing inexpensive accommodation in different tourist centers, streaming of facilitation procedures at airports, human resource development, creating awareness and facilitating private sector participation in development of infrastructure. Tourism Industry derives institutional support from Department of Tourism, Indian Development of Tourism Corporation, Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management, Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology, and National Institute of Water Sports have been set up to promote tourism industry. About Gorakhpur Gorakhpur is located on the bank of river Rapti, and a city in the eastern part of the state of Uttar Pradesh in India. It is the administrative headquarters of Gorakhpur District and Gorakhpur Division Hindi, Urdu and Bhojpuri are the main languages.

It is famous as religious centre: the city was home to Buddhist, Hindu Jain and Sikh saints and is named after the medieval saint Gorakshnath. Gorakhnath temple is still the seat of the Nath Sect. It is also the birth place of the great saint Paramhansa Yogananda. The city is also home to many historic Buddhist sites and the Gita Press, a publisher of Hindu religious texts. Today, the city is also a business hub, hosting the headquarters of the North Eastern Railways. In ancient times the geographical area of Gorakhpur included the modern districts of Basti, Deoria, Kushinagar, Azamgarh. The economy of Gorakhpur is based on service industry. There is no production industry. The city is famous for hand-woven fabric made on a Hathkargha, a handoperated loom and Terra Cota products. In sum up of Gorakhpur, geographical area is 3483.8 km2, total population (2008) 8156610, sex ratio (2001) 1000/959, rural population (2001) 80.40% , urban population (2001) 19.60 and total literates (2008) 58.45%.

Tourism Place in Gorakhpur Gorakhpur city is a place where we find concord think and religion i.e. Kabir, Buddh, and Guru Gorakhnath. They were preacher and advocated a religious performance for purifying the mind, assiduous person, witness of work performed and dexterity in performing a work. It is success of Mantra' in life.

Gorakhnath Temple, Niravana Chaitya, Mahaparinirvana Temple, Ramabhar Stupa, Matha Kuar Shrine, Meditation Park, Indo- Japan Sri Lanka Temple, Watt Thai Temple, Museum, Pawanagar, Sun Temple, Ganwaria Archeological Site, Salargarh Archeological Site, Banarshia Kala & Khurrd, Rajdhani, Kanhaiya Baba Temple, Kopia, Imambada, Lehra Devi, Dughdheswarnath Temple, Maghar, Suraj Kund, Tameswarnath Temple, Chauri Chaure Martyr Relie, Sanatan Vishwa Darshan Temple and Gita Press and Gita Watika, Tara Mandal, Ram Garh Tal- a lake and Terracota (Handmade articles).

Transportation in Gorakhpur The three-wheeler, pedal powered cycle rickshaw is the most common mode of transportation in the city. Bus services are provided by the Gorakhpur Mahanagar Bus Seva. In addition there are auto rickshaws. . It connects to almost every major city in India. Direct trains connect to Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Varanasi, Trivendrum etc. It is served by an airport located at 6 km east from the city centre. A small number of domestic airlines including Jetlite, Kingfisher and Spicejet operate civilian aviation services to Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Allahabad and elsewhere. Creativity in tourism in Gorakhpur Generally tourists come to tourist place to have local glimpse and want to familiar with domestic rites, rituals and products. Creativity and innovation is dimension to see the competitive environment. It fulfills

the changing needs of era. There is no doubt that Gorakhpur city is prosperous tourism place and it can increase the earning capacity of tourism industry. Having a bunch of tourist places, Gorakhpur is indifferent to its development. The time has come to combine two civilizations rural and urban for foreign and domestic tourists. There is need to represent rural environment and provide urban facilities. We should use domestic based product and remove western or other product. We can serve food on a plate made of leaves with vignette, tea in Hunda with engraving of our culture symbol and provide those foods which are originated in Gorakhpur, provide different regional food and motivate evasion from junk food, because the most people have adopted it in their daily life. Bharat Darshan concept based museum should be set up to represent major places of India at one location. It will promote not only local but also other tourist places. A mask of rural environment and urban appearance it is really alliance of two cultures. Market should be decorated and filled with domestic or original products of this region viz. Terra Cota and handicraft article on festive eve. Maghar and Kushinagar, both places have green and peace environment for meditation and research, so there should be set up inn for tourists with providing better facilities and local food like Litti Chokha and etc. Providing regional food, if we present regional songs of Lavani, Dandiya, Bhagvageeta, etc. and music of Sitar, Harmonium, Sarood, Tanpur, Veena, Tabla and Sarangi etc. It will make impression and glimpse of an "Incredible India and Imagine India". It will boon and attract to tourist visit to next time.

Challenges faced by entrepreneurs To return old India it is not too easy to match with modern moody customer. Entrepreneurs can do through effort in right direction. There are hindrances or challenges which have to face them. 1. Lack of facilities to tourist like fresh water, waiting room, clock room. 2. Lack of good infrastructure like roads, flyovers, etc. 3. Tourist faces fraud, cheating, thefts by small and medium gangs 4. Communication and culture problem 5. Tourism development projects are usually developed by Indian government without any discussion with community leaders. 6. Fund is not provided by state government. 7. Inconsistent community organization. 8. Poor administration and management in tourist places. 9. Lack of new concept like ouch tourism where people invite tourist to their home. 10. Crowd creates bottleneck problem on festival in absence of alternate site. 11. Not only foreigner but also Indian from other states or cities and local people are not properly familiar with culture, language of other countries and local language. 12. Improper marketing and tourism promotion. 13. The future of tourism industry in Gorakhpur is definitely exciting but there are several human resources challenges faced by the

industry viz. lack of qualified staff at both operational and managerial levels. 14. Major factor is, moreover education and training institutions have not yet been able to churn out the professionals who can meet out the industry burgeoning expectations from them. 15. The industry has not been able to attract the talented lot to pursue a career in the same. 16. Lack of trees which helps to make a plate.

Suggestion When we go to another place we always expect some new, regional originality with advance facilities. So time has come to sit and think how we can manage it. This can be done by adopting 3P model (Public, Private and Partnership) or 2P1L (Public, Private and Local Community). 1. State Government must pay special attention to invest to develop the infrastructure for tourist places. 2. Present modes of transports may be strengthened to provide efficient & safe transportation facility. 3. Local people must be trained & develop appropriate abilities and skill. 4.Flash the advertisement about national and local tourist place at station. (if possible national sight seen) and there can be focused promotion of various places to get attention of the travelers by using aids like short films, photographs, etc.

5.Tourism information must be updated often. The website must get enriched information with catchy phrases. Specific toll free numbers can be used for easy access of information by tourist. 6. Rebate in service tax and charges should give to tourist to encourage them to purchase local products.
