SESSION 1 Kto12 ART CURRICULUM for Grade Two


Introduction
Effective SY 2013 2014, the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum shall be implemented focusing with the roll-out of Grade II in all public elementary schools. The Grade II art program focuses on providing second grade learners with art experiences that include recognizing, creating, appreciating and critiquing their own artistic works and the works of others. The instruction under the new scheme starts with creative exploration of materials, processes and concepts. Grade II Art as part of MAPEH subject is new to the primary grade teachers. Therefore, there is a need for teachers who will be handling grade II learners to have an overview to the new curriculum. Objectives : At the end of the two-hour session, participants are expected to: A. Understand the philosophy and rationale of teaching art education in the K12 Curriculum B. Explain the conceptual framework, processes and contents of K12 Curriculum C. Demonstrate how to use the Curriculum Guide for Grade Two Art. D. INTRODUCTION & OVERVIEW Crayon Exercises SCRIBBLING (Art therapy) Materials: Crayon / paper/ Audio player 1. Hold at least two to three colors of crayon in one hand. 2. As the teacher played the music, continuously draw lines in any direction following the movement of song. 3. You can change colors as long as the song is playing.

SESSION PROPER A. Activity


1. Groupings: Let the participants group themselves with 8-10 members. Each group will be given a puzzle of art related pictures. Ex. Picture of National Artist Fernando Amorsolo Folk arts of Cordillera, pictures of shapes, clay etc. 2. Discuss work within the group and have a sharing about the picture used in the puzzle. Choose one (1) representative to present the group work and its corresponding significance to the art lessons.

B. Analysis
Each picture used in the puzzle highlights the components and aspects of art curriculum. Analyze the work of each group and its importance to the art lessons.

C. Abstraction
Discuss the Curriculum framework of teaching art using presentation software. 1. Philosophy and Rationale of teaching art 2. Content of Art Per Grade Level 3. Themes or Topic of art per grade level 4. Domains or Discipline Areas in Teaching Art 5. Using Curriculum Guide and discuss the contents. Content standards, performance standards and learning competencies 6. Processes per grading period III INTEGRATION

D. Application
Group activity: Present a Jobcard to each group performing one activity in the K12 Curriculum. Let them create an artwork and let them trace the Learning content, standards, performance standards and competencies of the art activity from the curriculum guide. Make an exhibit for assessment of the artworks. Evaluate based from the rubrics of each lesson presented.

TEACHING ART IN GRADE TWO
Introduction
Art or Sining is one of the vital components in the subject MAPEH in elementary level as part of the K-12 curriculum. It addresses and ensures that learners are able to demonstrate an understanding of basic processes in art through appreciation, analysisand performance. The K-12 Art program provides the learners different art experiences through recognizing, creating, appreciating and critiquing their artistic works and the works of others. Effective SY 2013 2014, the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum would be implemented on its second year in the roll-out of Grade II. The art teacher, as frontliner of the program delivery needs to encourage creativity and sustain artistic interest among his/her students. It is also necessary for the teacher to continuously gather firsthand information and enrich learning experience in visual art. Therefore, this session about teaching art is designed for participants to have ideas regarding methodology of art education. This workshop is designed to discover and enhance their skills in arts and crafts as well as to familiarize them with the aspects of Discipline Based Art Education (DBAE).

Objectives

At the end of the two-hour session, participants are expected to: a. Learn how to use Teaching Guide and Learners Material b. Participate in the Demonstration lesson and observe methodologies of teaching art c. Discuss the domains/discipline areas in teaching art.

Each group will share the discussion/analysis made by the members about parts of the Teaching Guide.

C. Abstraction
Discuss the following using powerpoint presentation a. Teaching Guide and Learners Materials b. Parts of the Teaching Guide Pre-Activity, Activity Proper (Motivation, Presentation,Art activity, Post Activities,Evaluation,Assignment) c. Lesson Summary (Domains/Discipline areas of Teaching Art) III INTEGRATION D. Application Let the participants be involved in the Demo Lesson. They will act as learners. Each group has assigned task to observe and evaluate the following aspects of the Demo lesson: Group 1 & 2 Group 3 & 4 Group 5 & 6 Group 7 & 8 Group 9 & 10 Art History Art Production Art Criticism Art Appreciation Assessment

SESSION 1 Kto12 ART CURRICULUM - ASSESSMENT

Introduction Assessment process is concerned with whole formative or developmental purpose of quality learning. It is also standards-based as it seeks to ensure that teachers will teach to the standards and the students will aim to meet or even exceed the standards.Therefore, the artwork performance of the student is the critical evidence of students learning. Objectives : At the end of the one-hour session, participants are expected to: A. Explain the importance of assessment in art instruction B. Understand the assessment tools in assessing artwork C. 1. Groupings: Let the participants group themselves, preferably 8-10 members. Each group will be given a sample student artwork. Let them do any creative performance about the picture (e.g. song, dance, poem, interpretation,skit etc.) Consume 3 minutes to talk about the performance to be presented. Ex.

2. Let the group present their presentation (2 minutes for each group presentation).

B. Analysis (5 Minutes)
Present another picture of artwork. Ask the participants to assess the picture.

Discuss the following: 1. Assessment of Learning Outcomes 2. Assessment Tools 3. Exhibit III INTEGRATION

D. Application
Each group is encouraged to put up an exhibit showcasing members artwork done during art exercise. Do this for 5 minutes.
