HND in Interactive Media Unit Assignment ID Assignment Title Author Internal Verifier Introduction This assignment is to understanding of the close relationship and interdependence of sound and other media and sound component in interactive media. Learning Outcomes On successful completion of this assignment, the following learning outcomes will be achieved: 1. Collect examples of sound and experiment using digital applications 2. Research the utilization of sound in contemporary media 3. Re-work source material collected to evoke a range of responses 4. Develop source material further to produce an interactive media presentation. Hand-in Date: 15th July 2013 Submission Date: 05st August 2013 Deliverables The following deliverables are required for submission: Minimum two page report for task1 Include Navigation plan, voice script, used sound data. All the audio files created & used, Project files with proper file naming (you can put all the files above mentioned in three separate folders in a single data cd) Fully functional Interactive multimedia CD Sound Production and Editing using Interactive Media H1-04 Individual Project Prabath Samarasinghe Dr. S. Task One (P1) Background Analysis on Sounds in Interactive Media P1.1 - Research the utilization of sound in interactive media. Prepare a two page document. Report should contain technical matters for following terms. Sounds Frequency and Audible Range Sampling frequency Resolution Sounds intensity Audio Clip Envelop You may use Internet and library materials for data gathering P1.2 Research and compare FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) audio Editing Applications (eg. Audacity, etc) and Commercial Audio Editing Applications (eg. Cubase, etc), advantages and Disadvantages. P1.3 Describe Midi Technology can be used for Audio Editing, Composing, etc. in audio industry. Prepare a PowerPoint presentation, which includes midi versions, Midi types, devices and software applications can be, use with midi. (minimum 15 slides). Note: State the references Task Two (P2) Design & plan for an Interactive multimedia CD for your Digital CV In this task, you will plan for an interactive CD, which has about one minute promotional video with narrations and background music track. The Main Menu should have at least five buttons. (About Me, Educational Qualifications, Professional Qualifications, Portfolio, Contact Me, etc..) P2.1 - Prepare a navigational plan for CD (Structure Chart, Interfaces) P2.2 - Prepare a voice script for one-minute audio narration. P2.3 - Plan for the sound assets for CD (background music track, button sounds etc..) You should use a MS Word for documenting purpose. You are free to use any interactive tool such as Adobe Flash etc. Task Three (P3) Develop source materials for the interactive multimedia CD In this task, you will develop source materials required for task two. P3.1 - Record Voice Narration (eg: using Cubase, you may use your own) P3.2 - Prepare a background music track for a video clip. (Use Drum tools, Dr.

You should use suitable sound software for this task. eg: Steinberg Cubase, Reason4 Task Four (P4) Finalize and Author the contents to the working interactive multimedia CD In this task, you will author the source materials into a functioning multimedia CD. P4.1 You may use appropriate interactive content development software such as Adobe Flash, etc. P4.2 CD should be easily viewable in any computer. P4.3 Test the CD to see whether all the buttons, navigations are working ok You are free to use any interactive tool you are familiar with, eg: Adobe Flash etc... Grading Criteria To achieve a PASS grade a student must meet all the criteria in the assessment: P1. Prepare a report on background analysis on Sounds in Interactive Media P2. Design & plan for an Interactive multimedia CD for an institute P3. Develop source materials for the interactive multimedia CD P4. Finalize & Author the contents to the working interactive multimedia CD To achieve a MERIT grade a student must, in addition: M1. Identify and apply strategies to find appropriate solutions (eg: Technical areas of sound Task 1 & 2) M2. Select/design and apply appropriate methods/ techniques (eg: Comprehensive planning document Task 2 & 3) M3. Present and communicate appropriate findings (eg: Creativity in designing the interface elements, navigation, sound quality Task 3 & 4) To achieve a DISTINCTION grade a student must, in addition: D1. Use critical reflection to evaluate own work and justify valid conclusions (eg: Comparison of various sound outputs and justifying sample rate & resolution for the chosen output device Task 2) D2. Take responsibility for managing and organizing activities (eg: Proper folder structure, file naming convention Task 3 & 4) D3. Demonstrate convergent/lateral/creative thinking (eg: Standards compliance, PC compatibility & indication and testing of minimum system requirements for playback Task 3 & 4)
