Improvement in coke quality through optimization of coal blend composition at BSL PPI PD BR SID TS
A.2 A.3
BSL is getting indigenous PCC from about six sources, MCC from about five sources, imported coking coals from about four to seven sources. The variation in ash content and coking properties of indigenous coking coals are generally much higher than those of imported coking coals. The properties of charge coal are one of the major factor affecting coke properties. The quality of charge coal in turn depends on the quality parameters of individual coal, their proper blending and crushing at desired level. This project is proposed to develop a system for coal blending for achieving higher consistency and improved coke properties.

OBJECTIVE : APPROACH :
Improvement in M10 index by 0.5 point. 1. Checking of proper functioning of weigh-feeders through calibration 2. Ensuring use of differential crushing to maximum extent 3. Development of system for storing of coals in allotted silos 4. Development of correlation between coke properties (M10/ M40) - With blend properties evaluated at plant using Artificial Neural Network (ANN) - With blend properties evaluated at RDCIS, Ranchi using ANN 5. Collection of individual coal samples and detailed laboratory characterization 6. Development of coal blending model using correlation developed 7. Coal blend formulation through model (Plant end) and if required through Pilot Oven Tests 8. Commercial evaluation of coke quality from suggested blend
