a response to a thriving entrepreneurial community in
Charlottesville that has constantly faced growth challenges.

Elizabeth P. Pyle – President

Ms Pyle is a Certified Petroleum Geologist, with a B.A in Geology as well as a Masters in Education and a Masters
in Business Administration. She had a successful career in the Oil & Gas sector spanning 15 years. She worked for
the public and private side as a geologist and project manager in Exploration & Production (downstream) projects.
After moving to Charlottesville in 1994, she acquired Southern Financial Group, a discount brokerage firm based
out of Charlottesville, VA, which she successfully restructured, carried to profitability and sold.

Pyle & Associates, LLC was formed in 2000, as a result of a growing need for business plan development and
implementation. P&A has advised numerous businesses in the central Virginia area. In the past 9 years, she has
participated in over 100 projects in industries ranging from forestry, precision manufacturing, biotechnology and
virtual worlds & hi-tech.

Ms Pyle has supported the entrepreneurial community by serving as Chair of the Charlottesville Venture Group
(2006-2008), former Chair of the Business Plan Review Committee and Annual Business Forum Committee. She
received the 2008 People’s Choice Award has been ranked as an A+ Accredited Business by the Virginia Better
Business Association.

Sergio Alvarez – Associate
Sergio has an undergraduate degree in business from the ITESM and completed his MBA at
University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business. He started his career in Distressed Debt Investing
where he valued financial portfolios worth over $250MM and then worked several years in
Corporate & Investment Banking at Citigroup and GE Capital. Over the course of his career, Mr.
Alvarez has worked on many deals in a variety of industries, including oil & gas, retail, telecomm,
real estate, industrials, home appliances, food & entertainment and wine & beverages.

Kathryn Aranda – Research Associate

Ms. Aranda, trained in economics at Goucher College, is a former urban planner (NYC, Baltimore
Region) and nonprofit executive, dealing primarily with economic development and entrepreneurship
issues. More recently, she has been focused on web-based organizations, including virtual worlds.
She maintains the Pyle & Associates website, and provides background research for projects,
especially those related to virtual worlds and web presence. Ms. Aranda served in the New
Hampshire legislature for three terms and dealt primarily with environmental and agricultural issues
at Committee Level.
