PSSE creates these files for the User. PSSE tells User if files become fragmented. These files can reside in either the Users Working Directory or Home Directory Working Directory: directory to which you are attached when PSSE is started Home Directory: directory specified in the file PSSE.INI

Starting Up PSSE
Two basic ways to start up PSSE in the MS Windows environment: 1) Click on: Start, Programs, PSSE, PSSE (power flow) Starts up in PSSE31\EXAMPLE directory by default. 2) Double-click on PSSE desktop icon (User has to create this first) Use Windows Explorer to create shortcut to PSSE31\PSSBIN\PSSE31.EXE Drag shortcut to desktop Edit Properties of desktop icon to specify desired Working Directory in the Start in: field. Can have multiple icons on desktop, each referring to a different Working Directory.

File Search Rules

PSSE looks for various files that it needs or uses during program start-up and execution in specific locations. PSSE uses the first file it finds. First looks in Users Working Directory Then looks in Users Home Directory Then looks in PSSE default file location. Example: file WINPSSE.PRM A copy of this file can exist in the default location, and/or the Home Directory, and/or the Working Directory. If in Working Directory, that copy is used, ignoring all other copies. If not in Working Directory, but in Home Directory, that copy is used, ignoring all other copies. If not in either Working Directory or Home Directory, the copy in default location is used. User must be cognizant of the directory structure and the existence of various files to ensure that the proper version is used for a particular application.
