Abstract
This report presents the findings of the degree of satisfaction regarding their job responsibilities and level of gratification towards the organization they work for. This report is designed to present the employee satisfaction details in the various facilities of NALCO and also help the top management understand the areas of dissatisfaction that need to be addressed. The data sources used are the responses of the employees of all the units of NALCO. Survey is collected from them and they are analyzed to find out the key areas of satisfaction amongst the employees which is directed towards establishing, developing and maintaining successful relational exchanges, and the mutual exchange and fulfillment of promises. The basic assertion of the employment relation should be maintaining a strong employee-employer relationship which provides customers with an intangible value that is difficult for competitors to imitate or match, which keeps them buying from the firm. In the current scenario, the goal is not necessarily to maximize sales transactions, but to build an unfolding dynamic in which the firm learns more about the employees needs, preferences, satisfaction, and future intentions as the relationship evolves and responds to them with tailored offerings.

Introduction
No company can achieve its goals if it does not have the right set of employees. The employees in a company largely determine the success of the company. This is the reason why companies put in extensive efforts in choosing candidates for their company. Most of the times, skills and knowledge of the employee is considered to gauge his performance in the company. One factor that is being overlooked by most of the company owners is employee satisfaction. Various surveys and researches have shown that employee satisfaction plays a pivotal role in performance of the candidate. If any company wants to draw out the best from its employees then it should provide best means to satisfy the need and requirements of its customers. Before one can know various ways to facilitate employee satisfaction, it is essential to understand what does it actually mean.
Employee satisfaction is the term used to describe a situation when employees are satisfied and contented with his job and the office environment. Importance of Employee Satisfaction Employee Satisfaction is of utmost importance in any organisation be it small or large. Thinking that employee satisfaction is important only for the employee then it is not right. It is equally important for the organisation for which the employee is working as well. The following points will show the importance of employee satisfaction easily. In light of the organisation: 1. It enhances employee retention and the company does not need to train employees repeatedly. 2. The overall productivity of the company is increased and it assists in achieving the goals of the company. 3. When employees are satisfied with their job they deal with customers in a better manner and thus customer satisfaction is achieved to great extent. 4. It helps the company in getting better services and products from its employees. 5. Money spent on training new candidates and recruitment of new candidates can be saved extensively.
In light of the employee: 1. When the employee gets satisfactory services from the company initially, he tends to believe that same treatment would be offered in long run. 2. Employee would start taking interest in his work instead of worrying about other issues. 3. The employee starts feeling a sense of responsibility towards the organisation. 4. He deals with customers in a better way and builds strong relations with them. 5. They would try to produce better results in order to get appreciation from the company.
If some organisation does not see employee satisfaction amongst its employees then there is nothing to be worried about. By following some steps, the organisation can improve employee satisfaction. One of the best possible ways is to conduct a feedback program.
3|Page During this program, the organisation should take feedback from the employees so that they can know what the requirements of the employees are and what exactly they are getting in the organization.

The survey was designed to measure satisfaction on a broad range of issues considered to be important to the organizations employees in areas of Compensation and promotion potential, communication, supervision, safety management, work place policies, job satisfaction and training and development issues. The overall objectives of this survey were to ascertain employees perception of the Companys employment services and how these services can be improved to meet their needs. The survey results are based on the respondents perceptions of the effectiveness and quality of service that were secured from the respondents response to specific multi choice survey questions and their written comments.

It is imperative that the NALCO management understand the specific dimensions of the working environment of their organization. Exploring and discussing these issues identified has an impact on the direction of human resource and Administration management practices in the organization. By understanding employee satisfaction within the work environment and productivity, the NALCO will have to make important decisions on where to allocate resources in order to solve problems that are important to the staff and their productivity. 2. Survey Objectives The main objective of this survey was to assess the level of employee satisfaction index and work environment index for NALCO with an aim of making improvement recommendations. The specific objectives included: i. ii. iii. iv. v. vi. vii. Evaluate the level of employee satisfaction with compensation and promotion potential. Evaluate the effectiveness of communication within the organization. Determine the effectiveness of supervision, evaluation and appraisal of staff. Find out the perceived level of job satisfaction. Determine staff perception of the Work Environment in terms of safety and policies. Recommend measures to enhance staff satisfaction and productivity. Prepare and submit a comprehensive report on the findings, methodology and recommendations from the survey.
Study Approach:
Methodology
1. Research design The survey was designed to deliver robust quantitative measures and also illustrative quality insight which was captured through employment of both qualitative and quantitative research methods. The rationale for this approach was that the study involved several independent variables correlated to the dependent variable (employee satisfaction and work environment). This was done using a five point scale data values to compute the rating index on each of the indicator established to influence the overall satisfaction. 2. Questionnaire The survey tool was in form of a questionnaire developed by the HRD department, Corporate Office based on the identified categories. The department defined precisely the information desired and wrote a few questions as possible to obtain it. The aim was to obtain feedback from a small but representative sample of potential respondents. This activity involved more informal, open-ended interviews with several potential respondents as per the sample. In designing the questionnaire form the following conditions were put into account: i. ii. iii. iv. That it be easy to read and understand That it be concise and easy to complete That it measure specifics of the employee satisfaction and work environment. That it will be sufficient enough to be conclusive
7|Page The employees survey forms included sections with statements which respondents were to indicate theirs level of agreement on a 5 point scale. A roll up statement on overall satisfaction was also included. The general comment section had four questions that solicited comments about the areas the organization had performed commendably and areas that need improvement. 3. Study site and sample size The study was carried out during the months of Nov-Dec 2012 at NALCO for employees satisfaction survey. Samples of 747 staff (Exec + Non--Exec) were picked, and almost all employees were able to respond to the questionnaires. 4. Methods of data collection The study was a multi stage cluster with respondents picked randomly within identified clustersof the organizational staff. Primary data was collected using two structured questionnaires, separately for executives and non-executives. The enumerators guided the respondents in fillingin the questionnaires. A total of 747 questionnaires were administered to the employees that had 10 section on employee satisfaction and work environment 5. Measurement of variables The data generated was to test the employee satisfaction level and the employee perception on the work environment with regard to the organization. Each question was to be answered on a 5 point scale .All of the statements used a scale that ranged either across Strongly Agree, Agree, Neither agree nor disagree, Disagree, and Strongly disagree or across Yes, always, Yes, mostly, Sometimes, Not much and Never. 6. Constraints i. ii. Filling questionnaires demand some time and due to work commitment the employees might not have had enough time to respond to all the questions. Some of the respondents did not seem to understand the questions and made an effort to ask for assistance in filling the questionnaires hence ending up participating fully in the survey. Some others did not make the effort and hence could not provide their valuable inputs completely to the survey.
