5 MAC OSX86 Leopard + Vista Installation guide

This guide will show you how to make a Dual Boot 10.5.X OSX86 System with WINDOWS VISTA . Use this guide with your favourite distro { Kalyway iAtkos Leo4all Jas iDeneb } Personally I found Kalyway and iAtkos more effective than other distro's. Check the latest version of this guide here.

1. 2. * First of all you have to install Vista. It's easy and I m sure that you are familiar with it. 3. 4. * Partitioning have an vital role so take care of it for installing OSX you need to have a partition of minimum 10 gb. The partition must be formatted as FAT-32 Primary Partition. You can use Partition Magic for partitiong also. 5. 6. * Boot into Windows installation and open Command Prompt { Start < All Program < Accessories < Command prompt } With Administrative Privillage and run following commands. 7. 8. * In command prompt type 9. DISKPART and press enter. Now you are in DISKPART utility . So here we are using DISKPART for making HFS compatible Partition. Command Preface

DISKPART> list disk

" This will show you a list of selectable disks. "

DISKPART> disk n

select

[where n = the disk number]

This will specify which disk to create a new partition on DISKPART> create partition primary size=n id=af [where n = the size in MB of the partition, For 20 gb space n will be 20000 ] [where af = hfs+ compatible] Will proceed to create a bootable primary partition for the Mac DISKPART> partition list " This command will show you the partitions on your selected disk "

DISKPART> partition n

select

[where n = the newly created OSX partition] This will specify the partition

DISKPART> active

" This will make your OS X partition the first-boot active partition "

DISKPART> Exit

Exit from DiskPart...........

For Darwin bootloader follow these instruction.

Darwin has its own dual-boot menu which is easy to activate, just press F8 on your keyboard before the Darwin boot loader prompt and Apple boot logo. The dual-boot menu might appear by itself depending on whether or not the install disc automatically sets the time-out period for you.

If you want to create a time-out that will allow you to select which OS to boot from without pressing F8, follow these instructions:

Firstly, load up Terminal (Applications/Utilities/) from within OS X, then type: sudo /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist edit the Darwin time-out flag accordingly: nano

<key>Timeout</key> <string>8</string> Press CTRL+O and then Enter to save the file, after which you can safely close the session by pressing CTRL+X.

For VISTA bootloader use this guide . Put the Vista Installation Disc into your DVD drive and restart to boot from it. Click Repair System, press next and then select Command Prompt Type DISKPART and press Enter. Command Preface

DISKPART> list disk

" This will show you a list of selectable disks. "

DISKPART> select disk n

[where n = the disk number]

Select the disk which Windows Vista is installed to

DISKPART> partition

list

This will show you the partitions on your selected disk

DISKPART> partition n

select

[where n partition]

the

Windows

Vista

This will specify the partition DISKPART> active Will make your Windows Vista partition the first-boot active partition

DISKPART> Exit

Exit from DiskPart...........

Reboot into Windows Vista. Next, you can either follow the command line BCDEDIT instructions below, or use EasyBCD. Copy CHAIN0 from your Mac OS X partition or Installation Disc to the root of your Vista partition C:\.

-x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x

For Vista Bootloader you can also use BCD-EDIT. * Boot into Vista. Copy the chain0 file from the Leopard DVD to C:

* Open the "Command prompt" with "Elevated Admin" privileges from the Start Menu.

* Type the following into the prompt

bcdedit /copy {current} /d "Mac OS X" bcdedit /enum active bcdedit /set {GUID} PATH \chain0

* In the first command type {current} as it is, literally..nothing else..just {current} with the brackets. In the 3rd command however, replace the {GUID} with the alphanumeric GUID you see in the enumerated list under MAC OS X. You can see this list on your terminal as soon as you type the 2nd command above.

* Close the Command Prompt and Restart Vista.

* You Should now be looking at a screen with two options to boot into Mac OSX or Vista.

Select Mac OSX to see if you can boot into it. You should see the familiar Darwin boot Loading screen with the timer going down. If you dont do anything, then it counts to zero and again shows the menu screen with Vista and MAC OSX options. Dont panic! Again select MAC OS X, and now as the timer counts down, Press F8. You would see a list of partitions on your disk with their names. Select the partition with MAC OSX installed by using up/down arrows and press ENTER. -x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x . If you find this guide useful to you than digg it for raisimg my moral..

I tried to install iDeneb 10.5.5 in a Vaio VGN-AR11R that had Vista. I have to mention that having Raid configuration creates a lot of problems.

Firstly, every time I was formating a drive to FAT 32 it was changing the bootloader. I had to repair it by putting the Vista recovery CD and go to Command Prompt and type Bootrec.exe/FixBoot on the drive where I had Windows. Finally, when I managed to format the drive to id=af and load the iDeneb disk, I created an HFS+ compatible disk and installed OSX. It was then rebooted but failed to load, giving me an error saying: Ebios read error:Error 0x04 Block 209969550 Sectors 64 I tried to install OSX twice and twice I had the same error. Again, I put the Vista recovery disk in but this time it had made the raid array out of place, having one drive unreadable with capacity the size of both of my hard drives and an extra hard drive the size of the HFS+ drive I had earlier created. Of course, the drive with HFS+ format was unaccessible in Vista command prompt leaving me no option but to delete everything from the Raid configuration and start with a fresh Raid Array. It was obvious that I had to wipe all the date from both the hard drives since I re-created the Raid - Array. The conclusion is that I did not manage to install OSX x86 in my Vaio and I am pretty sure that has to do with the hardware itself. I hope this will save somebody else's time but I do find the option of having OSX on a PC very useful. Reply

Anonymous November 18, 2008 at 3:12 PM Why do you need to disable the User Account Control? In step 11, you click erase on the hard dusk where OSX needs to be installed. Will this erase the whole harddisk? What do I need to do if I allreade have Vista on my hardisk in a Vista partition and I want to install OSX on the same harddisk in an other partition? Reply

Anonymous November 30, 2008 at 6:54 AM In Steps 14 and 15 you state the iDENB DVD needs to be in the drive and you get to the apple boot screen. Does this mean the iDENEB DVD needs to be in the drive whenever you want to boot into OSX? I am only

able to get any OSX running by hitting F8 and typing -v rd=disk0s6. Is there a way to just OSX load after selecting it from the Dual VISTA boot.ini selection? Please help I am really enjoying testing OSX but would like boot to be hands free. Thanks in advance. iDENEB 10.5.5 is the best! Reply

Anonymous January 4, 2009 at 11:21 AM You rock. I wish every tutorial was as simple and easy to follow as this. Thanks for helping me with that bootloader stuff! Reply

Anonymous January 17, 2009 at 9:14 PM I used iDENEB 1.3.10.5.5 with i was bit confused while looking at many other forum to set the chain0 with easyBCD which is saying C: for MAC os X. I had followed the steps, it was easy. Browse through cmd.exe & Run as Administrator, the commands given above are executed nicely. After reboot, I found the first time it was asking press power button to restart., I have restarted & used -v, now I see Blue screen came & then went to black screen, I could just see my hard disk is seeking, I guess it is trying to load for the first time... But I have repeated Error. "You need to restart your computer. hold down the power button for seconds or press the reset button" Reply

Anonymous March 3, 2009 at 5:33 AM Ok I've installed Kalyway 10.5.2, followed the instructions up to using diskpart to make the Vista partition active and booted into Vista. This is where I get stuck.

Can't see the Mac OS X drive to chain0, when exploring the Kalyway install DVD I just have 2 files: BootHelp cdboot.pcefi.debug can open the first with notepad, can't open the second. where do I locate Chain0? Reply

Anonymous March 4, 2009 at 6:03 AM Hi, I've followed this guide, used diskpart to create the partition as you suggested, installed Kalyway 10.5.2 with no issues, gone for the vista boot loader option, made the vista boot active, copied chain0 to C:, followed the 3 bcdedit codes with no errors in cmd and when I reboot see Mac OS X as an option, however when I select it I get a 0xc0000098 message. Have resorted to using Acronis OS Selector which loads Mac OS X fine so know there isn't a problem with that itself, however find this method a bit inelegant. How can I get your instructions to work? raufan May 18, 2009 at 12:53 AM maybe you need hfs explorer to extract mac osx kind of files... Reply E n t e ry o u rc o m m e n t . . .
